Paint Party Friday... Pastels

Morning everyone.... it's that time of the week once again when we reveal all.
Well, I should clarify that statement perhaps and say... to revealing what's on our work desks.

As you can see on mine, there's the ink drawing of my butterfly which I did post about last week.
I have to confess I went in once again and added a little more detail!
I know, I just can't help myself.... but I did feel it needed a little more.
But that's it now... it's finished... and I mean it!
I'm now thinking about printing it on to tea towels or tote bags... what do you think?

As mentioned on one of my previous posts, I've also started a coloured butterfly design.
I wanted to practice using my oil pastels, so this was an ideal project.
Although having said that, it wasn't really because I didn't have a pastel blender other than my finger, which is now incredibly sore and has a little hole in the tip!
It also had a tendency to stick up and considering it's my middle finger it's causing some concern... whoops!
There's such a long way to go with this design and I'll need to spend quite some time on it to build up the colours.
Here's another photo from a few days later....

Here's a little peek at another desk that I've been working on...
Don't worry, I'm as shocked as you to be working on two desks this week!
Obviously, the weather must be bad to keep me inside and creating art.
Maybe winter won't be so bad after all.

This desk was taken at my art group.
It's the last week that we will be using pastels and I was overjoyed to be doing a portrait (NOT)
Anyway, taking a deep breath I dived in.
I was thinking that if Penelope Cruiz ever saw my drawing then she'd probably sue me... but I persevered and was a (little) pleased with the outcome.
Depending on the finished version, I may or may not show you at a later stage.
But that's enough for this week because our host Julie over at Stamping Ground likes us to keep things brief so that we can hop and skip about to each others desks.
It's great fun so if you'd like to take a peek click here.

Just before I sign off today I'd like to say that I've been trying to visit everyone that's popped in to leave a comment with me over the last week... but I've struggled.
I'm still working on it and will continue until I've managed it.

I'll end here today with my thanks for all your visits and comments.
I love to see you and hear what you have to say.

I hope your week is going well.
Until next time... have fun everyone

  2. That zentangle butterfly is amazing - it really would lend itself to being printed on canvas, tea towels or even greetings cards/notelets. I love black and white cards and that's the one I'd go for, seriously!

  4. Hi Neesie, I love the B&W butterfly- he's awesome. I think he'd look fantastic printed onto totes. maybe even shrunk down and onto matching make-up bags etc. You could also print him onto fabric and cover notebooks/journals. I know what you mean about your finger- I did some background sheets using artist oil pastels, and just streaked it on and blended with my finger or thumb. You don't actually realise it at the time, do you? Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #36 xx

I didn't notice my raw finger until quite late into the blending... but it's on the mend now.
I hope you have a great week too...
      Happy Wednesday ;D

  6. Tea towels Neesie, tea towels! I was only saying this week that white tea towels should be banned in our house, but if we had a tea towel with a butterfly on it that we could colour in over the months of use, such that spaghetti sauce would not ruin the look, then you're onto a winner me thinks !!
I'm impressed with Miss Penelope, fantastic job. I love seeing all your different works of art each week :)

I hope to carry on with the portrait later today (fingers crossed) I'll try to show it when it's finished whether it's good or bad. If it's bad I'll not show her photo and give her another name... to protect the innocent.
I think the butterfly might take some time to layer up. I can't wait to add the darker colours. I saw three in the garden yesterday which was a surprise. I'm sure they'll be gone until next year soon.
Thanks for popping into my place.

  10. More gorgeous works from you, to look at :D The idea of that b&w butterfly in print would be perfect on just about anything, I'd say. A real winner! I look forward to the day when I can say I will do that with something of mine. And I know I'm getting there. Your oil [astel butterfly is looking amazing, I'm very impressed with your seamless blending. Have you tried cotton buds Denise? Until you get some paper stumps/tortillons or whatever you prefer, lol.
Your portrait is also awesome, imo. I think you are a perfectionist, and will be unhappy with anything you see as not right. Like most people, but, others do not see them the same of course. Keep going with it and please do show us the end result :D ((hugs)) xx

I'll be sure to let you see the end result of the portrait no matter what.

  39. Lovely to see the different versions of the butterfly! Looks beautiful both as an ink drawing and pastel. Thank you for your kind words and hope you're having a lovely weekend!

    1. I'm glad that you like both versions Abigail, because I like the two versions too.
I knew I wanted to draw an ink line drawing, but then when I thought about it being a butterfly it just needed colour, so to draw the two just seemed to be the right thing to do.
I did have a lovely weekend thanks and let's hope we both have a great week ahead.
Thanks for stopping by my place ;D

  41. Haha, I do hope your middle finger got some rest now and won't stick up anymore ;-)
The ink drawing is absolutely beautiful, and the coloured one is progressing beautifully. I don't think Penelope Cruz would sue you ....
