What's on your Workdesk Wednesday (WOYWW #306) Profusions of plants

I had better throw in my cap first to Julia and the WOYWW gang... I may be barred?
But in my defence, I've had trouble with my laptop (twice), visitors and generally being the preverbial blue ***** fly!
Just because I haven't posted what's on my desk (WOYWW) doesn't mean I haven't been peeking and thinking about you all.
It's funny how these blogging practices can grab a hold and hang on tight.
I'm borrowing my son's laptop (again) for this post whilst he's distracted, but I'm aware I'm having to rush because I don't want to be responsible for him not completing an assignment or project.
So with that in mind... here's my desk.
I was at a loss a few mornings ago.
I knew I wanted to paint something but couldn't think what... and that's when the negative voice started screaming "well why bother anyway, you're always disappointed with the result" and "you know it's all brilliant in your head... the problem starts when you put the paper and paint in front of you".
Why is it that that negative voice no matter what it refers to is the loudest and the first to come forward. I'm very aware of this, so I gave it a sharp talking to.
Thankfully silently to myself and not out loud, as I frighten everyone enough already!
Anyway... I picked some flowers out of the garden and started.
I got to that ugly stage and it was nearly time to say "okay you win" but I carried on and surprise surprise I actually like it!!!
Woohoo
I went to a watercolour workshop a few weeks ago and hopefully I'll be posting all about it sometime soon (probably when I can bribe more laptop time)

I've also been using a different desk over this week too.
It's the work bench in our garage.
I've been creating hanging baskets and mangers.
Yes it's that time already.
They won't be hanging outside for quite some time, but I was caught out last year by starting them too late and they had a job to catch up.
So I'm ahead of the game... now we just need the right conditions
(I know the south of the UK is enjoying fantastic temperatures this week, but that frosticle fiend can play cruel tricks)
I'll not hang them out until at least the end of May and then only depending on conditions.
I came up with an ingenious idea of placing two mangers back to back in the wheel barrow.
Too many times they have tumbled over and all the tender plants have been given an unwelcome short back and sides!
Now they are stable and I can wheel them in and out to make the most of the sunshine, but tuck them up safe and sound at night.
Brillent eh?
So that'll do for today (someone's lurking and wanting the laptop back)

Have fun everyone and I hope to see you soon.

  1. It's funny isn't it what a difference a little black outlining can do to a painting..... It's the same with cross stitching really.
You are good with your baskets ..... I have a spring one with violas in ready to hang ..... Might get handyman to do it at lunch time ..... Too heavy for me at the moment

    1. I love to use the ink pens (previously with zentangles) so I was thrilled when attending a workshop the resident artist said to complete our watercolour paintings with the outlines. Woohoo!
I have to call in the heavy boys to lift my hanging baskets... I'm struggling to wheel the barrow in and out so have no chance to lift them high over my head.
It's all in the art of deligating! ;D
I hope you have your basket hanging and are enjoying the warmer temperatures.
Have a good week and thanks for stopping by to leave a lovely comment.

  2. What a pretty watercolor! So Spring! You have a knack for painting and I am glad you pushed the voice out of your head! It is still cool here for my gardening, so we had it cleaned of the winter mess, and now I wait for May to start planting my herbs and veggies. Usually go in around Mother's Day. Winnie #48

    1. Thank you Winnie for your lovely comment.. I can't believe that I actually like the painting after all. Which is very unusual for me.
I've been spending a lot of time in the garden this week as the spring temperatures rise... it's lovely to see all of the plants and bulbs come to life.
Have a great week and thanks for visiting my place.

  3. Oh Denise your posy painting is gorgeous!!! That negative voice can just take hitch hike to nowhere!! Love it muchly.
Many time around here I see people don't realise it's too early to hang out baskets just yet. See a little sunshine and out they go and then wonder what happened when good ol' Jack Frost comes a-calling late one week. Shame. But then I also 'blame' the garden centres that don't give sound advice when selling.
Right, I'm off my soap box and wish you more fine weather so your plants can get hardened off. Catch you later alligator {{Hugs}} xx

    1. Aww thanks Mo... I'm actually quite pleased with it in the end, so the negative voice knows diddlysquat!!!
As for the hanging baskets, I've been growing them for many years now, in all of our locations, even the desert, so I've had lots of experience. Last year I went to buy all of my plants in May and they had virtually all sold out. I've learnt that lesson too... so I went early this year. No flies on me ;D
The weather has been really kind lately... lots of sunshine but there's constantly a keen breeze. Hopefully that will go soon.
      In a while crocodile... {{hugs backatcha}}

  4. Hi Neesie, your flowers are beautiful and so is your watercolour ... I don't know why you doubt yourself, you clearly are a very talented artist. Like, too, how you've overcome the problem of the mangers - so much easier to whip the wheelbarrow out when the sunshines and accustom those tender little plants to life outside :) I'm still keeping my seedlings safe in the cold frames for now. Have a great week. Elizabeth x #58

  9. Your flowers are gorgeous Neesie. What a difference a little outline makes!
I used to do hanging baskets too when I lived in the UK. Using a wheelbarrow is a jolly good idea!
I've looked at the book you are reading A place called winter. Sounds a very good book. I'll wait until it is released on Kindle, but I'll keep it in mind.
    Have a good week,

  10. I was waiting to see when a bit of zentangle would creep back into your work, and the pink flowers have a touch of zen to it, n'est pas? I like it a lot, I'm thinking Etsy shop targeted at the Australian Mother's Day market next month!! It would make a wonderful card, it's so cheery and we're heading into winter...
I love the thought of you wheeling your plants into the best spot in the garden for their optimum sunshine and health, that is so you!
I'm off in four sleeps so have a lovely weekend, I've got to dash!
