Cockatoo calling.....

Today the weather couldn't decide what to wear...so it wore nothing. It wasn’t cold nor warm, sunny or dull. There was a stillness and a peaceful quietness...well that was until the cockatoo's came to call.
Not long after moving into this house last year, we were invaded one Sunday morning by a huge flock of cockatoo's landing and taking over the neighbourhood for a few hours. This Sunday they returned.
Imagine the Hitchcock movie 'The Birds' and you'll get the idea, although these birds are white and not at all sinister.
I'd heard their noisy cry's a few times over the last few days, but hadn't actually seen them. They can make an incredible noise. A little like excited teenagers on a night out...the volume control seems to be stuck on full and they're oblivious to the fact that they might actually be disturbing others!
As I was walking under this particular tree I suddenly became aware they were all overhead. Here's a photo...how many can you count?...I counted 12...

But then as I walked further up the street and turned back for another shot, I realised that there were many more...and this was just one tree.

I sometimes forget that I'm actually in Australia, but then when I see a spectacular sight of this kind, there's no doubt.
If you haven't seen a previous post about the cockatoo that came to my birdbath and liked it so much he invited his friend then click here.
Well that's the weekend done and dusted (sigh) so I'll wish you a good week ahead...Keep smiling :D

    1. Hi May, I thought you might like them.
It is a special sight indeed...I'm not sure where they've come from or where they go, because you only normally see small flocks.
Glad you liked the post ;)
Enjoy your Sunday...mine's just about finished xox

  2. Wow, great pics. It's really sunny and warm here today, unbelievably so for March in England. I'm not complaining though am going to sit out in the garden shortly and read. Take care Zo x

    1. It wasn't an exciting day but never the less different. I always enjoy my global trips around the world through blogs...you never know where you're going or what you might see.
I hope you have a great week too :D

  4. They sound like an unruly lot. They'd probably get on well with our Magpies - brash, noisy, aggressive and ravenously hungry all the time (yes, sounds like many of the teenagers I have encountered in the past)

    1. I'm getting the feeling that you're not a fan of the magpies Mark ;)
The cockies (as they're called here) do seem to get very excitable and can cause quite a bit of damage. They also like to strip off the tree bark, but I must admit I can't help but like seeing them...maybe just because they are different!
Have a good week and thanks for stopping by :D

  5. My friend Jo, who lives in Broadstairs, often gets wild Parakeets in her trees. I find it quite astonishing! It must be a wonderful experience to be living in a country with such exotic creatures Neesie! Thanks for all that you share with us. I love each visit with you! xxoo

  6. Hi Ros, whoops...apologies to everyone.
Let's just put it down to me being a pom! When I now look closely at them I can see that they haven't the crest. I should have known better because I have seen both.
I've even had the Sulphur-crested Cockatoos on my decking taking a drink from my bird bath. Well I hope they were ~ if you would like to see http://neesienatters.blogspot.com.au/2010/11/cockertoos-come-calling.html in case I'm wrong again.
I certainly don't mind you keeping me right Ros, in fact I'm so pleased you did, because I hate to think I've miss informed anyone. I have an Aussie advisor or I should say I did, cos she's now sacked! ;D
I was amazed hearing about your great aunt Lucy's cockie. I knew they lived a long life but how funny hearing what antics they get up to.
I should have put the kettle on for our little chat...maybe next time. I really enjoyed your comments and hope you'll visit again.
    Enjoy your week :D
