Hello remember me?
I know it's been so long since I joined in with the WOYWW gang.
I can't think what I've been up to which has kept me away until now, but not to worry, I'm here now.
So what is WOYWW I hear new visitors ask?
Well it's the lovely Julia over at Stamping Ground idea.
So if you'd like to know more then click here and all will be explained.
I haven't anything arty to show you this morning, but it's beginning to look hopeful. My desk (shared desk with my daughter) seems to be settling in slowly, although I'm not so impressed that we have scaffolding covering the window.
Usually people put blinds up don't they?
Don't worry I have ordered blinds, but they seem to be taking an age to appear.
I think once the scaffolders start working out there with their radio blasting (on a radio station not of my choice), banging, crashing and generally shouting the banter back and forth between them, then I'll probably move to the kitchen table for a while.
I'm keeping my entry brief today but one thing that has been in the forefront of my mind this week, is that I've found out something I didn't know...or had forgotten.
My sister and her hubby came to visit us a few weeks ago and whilst we were in the middle of one of our many, many natters she mentioned about my Dad's drawing.
Now this came as a blot from the blue to me...I know I'm five years younger than my sister but I just couldn't remember my Dad drawing.
I've tried desperately to picture him with a pencil in his hand but I can't see it.
We lost our Dad when I was 16 years old, so I'm thinking that maybe I was too young when he had did any art to remember. My sister says she would ask for a picture and went to bed only to find it there perfectly drawn the next morning.
Thinking about it, it was probably the only time he was free to be creative...whilst the kids were in bed.
Oh how I wish I could see him doing that now or even to see something that he'd drawn.
I knew that I'd got my love of reading from him, but I didn't realise that the artistic side was from him too. I know it definitely wasn't from my Mothers side.
Here's one of our favourite photos of my Dad doing one of the things he loved to do...
...Reading
Yes we're on the beach but he's fully clothed...looking like a French model in my eyes.
Gorgeous isn't he?
Oh how I miss him
Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone...enjoy and thanks for stopping by...it's always great to see you!
xoxo
Looking out my window is that same as yours. I have roofers here today and I hear awful music but jolly banter. My your Dad was dashing. We have a photo of my Father in law at the beach looking just like your Dad, all dressed up reading a book.
ReplyDeleteHi Dorothy,
DeleteHow's the roofing going? I feel for you...I really do. My slater has just moved some of the scaffolding around to in front of my kitchen window. I know that's going to get to me.
Thanks for the lovely compliment about my Dad. I think possibly quite a few males of that generation stayed fully clad for the beach.
He was always so engrossed with his books he probably didn't even notice ;D
Have a wonderful weekend ~ enjoy!
I was going to say the very same thing, he looks like a model! Its a beautiful photo, looks like a professional model shoot! I'm so sorry he is gone, he passed young, so sad, you must have inherited is interest in art! Thats lovely to have a shared passion with him,
ReplyDeleteAww bless. Not sure about the professional model shoot Laurie, especially with all the clothes and bags on show ;D
DeleteYeah...it was tragic as he was only 47 years old.
But then no matter what age you lose a parent it can be such a tough thing to deal with.
I knew about the reading but didn't realise the art came too ;D
Enjoy your weekend xoxo
HI Neesie
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous post, what a wonderful picture of your Dad. To lose you Dad at 16 years old is so sad but I think the tradition of requesting a picture and producing it by the next morning is something that could be continued in your household, although maybe your kids are bit too old for that game, & maybe you'll have to wait till for the next generation to ask :)!!!
Your Dad would be very proud to see how you have inherited his passion for books and creativity.
Wren xx
Hi Wren,
DeleteWell yes there's food for thought there. At least it would make me draw if a 'littley' was requesting something but I think we're a looooooooooooong way off that mark.
I often wonder what my Dad would have made of what's happened to me over the years. All the travelling, art, reading, and my kids of course. (sigh)
Anyway, it's good to see you and I hope you're having a rest from all that flying around the globe. By the way almost all the other Wrens are feathering their nests at the moment! ;D Just sayin'
Have a wonderful weekend xoxo
Oh that photo is just so lovely - it could grace a magazine front! Our Dad was a great reader and good with his hands and could make anything - I don't think he could draw though. x Jo
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo, but they'd have to do a skillful crop to exclude all the debris that we'd left at his feet before it could grace the cover of any magazine!
DeleteObviously he was 'looking after' all the gear, although he looks so engrossed in the book a herd of elephants or marching brass band could go past and he'd probably not have noticed ;D
Thanks for stopping by...enjoy your weekend
xoxo
Oh my, your daddy is gorgeous. He does look like a model. I'm so sorry you lost him when
ReplyDeleteyou were both so young. ((Denise))
Thanks for your lovely comment Boo,
DeleteHe was my hero ;D
Have a super weekend whatever you have planned...enjoy!
xoxo
Love the deep windowsill you have. A model, definitely and you've inherited both, his drawing talent and love of reading it seems. Have a wonderous day. Hugs and Happy WOYWW! Nan G #15
ReplyDeleteThanks Nan...it's strangely comforting to have both the reading and creativity from him. It makes it feel like he's still close even after all these years.
DeleteI hope you have a wonderous weekend too and that you enjoyed WOYWW
xoxo
What a fabulous photo! Such a special keepsake!

Hi Robyn,
DeleteThanks for stopping by...I hope you enjoyed your little snoop ;D
Enjoy your weekend and hopefully see you soon
What a lovely photo of your Dad. He looks very stylish and artistic.
ReplyDeleteAww thanks so much for such a lovely comment ;D
DeleteApologies for taking so long in replying but it's been quite a week!
I hope you're enjoying your weekend...have fun.
Your dad was a handsome and stylish man! It is good that you have your sister to reminisce with you as you each will remember different things and can relive them together. I am the eldest of 6 siblings. My youngest sister is 10 years younger so she doesn't remember certain things but after I moved out she was young and still living home so she had other fun stories to share. Have a fab day! Winnie#57
ReplyDeleteHe was indeed stylish and very handsome Winnie,
DeleteHe was my hero ;D
I also have an older brother so between us we've added many things to our wonderful memories.
Wow 6 siblings...you must have some stories to tell...hehe
Thanks for visiting my space and also for sharing a little of your family details.
I hope you're having a great weekend
You obviously get your drawing and reading from your dad... He was very dashing.... It is funny the things we forget and remember... It would be wonderful if your sister still had a drawing stashed somewhere.... But it is comforting to know that is where you get your artistic eye from...xx
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I had something...anything that my Dad had drawn but unfortunately they isn't anything. I'm very comforted to think that my Dad passed on some of the things that I love and are so important to me...now they're even more precious.
DeleteI hope you're doing okay and I'll be in touch soon
Enjoy your weekend xoxo
Sensational picture, someone must have had some photography talent too. It would be exciting if one of your dad's drawings showed up.
ReplyDeleteDarla
I've no idea who took the photograph...I'll have to ask my sister and brother if they know who did. I can't imagine it was my Mum because she'd have chopped off his head or feet for sure ;D
DeleteI really don't think we'll find anything that he did...which is a real shame.
Thanks for your lovely comment Dara,
Have a great weekend and I'll visit as soon as I can.
xoxo
Hi Nessie happy WOYWW. What a lovely gift to find your dad was an artist - love the photo of him, reminds me of my mum (still with us) and her school art folio I've seen and you've prompted me to ask some questions and maybe inherit it. Hope they outside work gets done quickly for you. Cheers and have a great week RobynO#73
ReplyDeleteAnd belated happy WOYWW to you too Robyn,
DeleteI'm so sorry to be so late replying to your lovely comment...but I suppose it's better late than never ;D
I'm so happy to hear that through my little post you might inherit a treasure from your mum.
As to the outside work being completely soon I think that's not going to happen. We've still got quite a few plans but at least we're on the home run. They've been here since October!
I hope you're enjoying your weekend ;D
Have fun!
Hi Neesie - your desk looks the perfect place to work (despite the scaffolding!) and it's so lovely you've found that gorgeous photo of your Dad. You're right - you have obviously inherited his creative flair, as well as the love of reading. What a lovely keepsake. Have a great week, Chris # 23
ReplyDeleteHi Chris,
DeleteThanks for stopping by and leaving a lovely comment. I appreciate it ;D
The art room is coming along nicely and I must admit it has a nice feel to it. I just need to spend more time in there now.
I feel very blessed that I have inherited so many precious things that I love from my Dad...it makes them all the more special.
I hope you're having a great weekend.
What a lovely photo of your dad!! quite the dashing gent! Hope the view from your window improves soon. Helen 7
ReplyDeleteDashing...oh how he'd have liked that. In fact I think he'd have quite a chuckle at everyone's comments. He was always very particular about his attire so he'd have loved hearing all the comments ;D
DeleteNo changes on the view from the window yet but I'm away next week so hopefully it will be done and gone by the time I get back.
Thanks for stopping by...I hope to visit sometime soon.
In the meantime have a great weekend!
isn't that a spectacular thing? to find out where your talent came from. I love knowing that I can hold a tune because my grandmother was a terrific singer and I'm an artist because my mother and grandmother were also artists. Even my uncle Dan was an artist and was working on a piece when he died last year. Familly, where we can see a reflection of ourselves. Tracey's right, he's dashing, the perfect word.
ReplyDeleteOh, to have a sister. It must be fun to natter, all with good intentions. Your dad was a handsome man and this is a heartwarming photo of him absorbed in his book.
ReplyDeleteOMG! What a very handsome fellow your dad was!! He does look like a model.
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious thing to find out that your dad was a bit of an artist. I found out when I was grown that my grandmother drew when she was young. Never even saw her doodle. Nice surprise. :)
You really had a beautiful dad. And the way he is dressed!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt could be a photographe of nowadays.
Aawww, Neesie... he is very handsome. What a great shot! May your memories be sweet this Father's day!
