Frivolous Friday

I was going to post and link up with Paint Party Friday today, but alas I'm a wee bittee late.
I don't know about mixed media... I've more mixed emotions today.
Basically, I've ruined my new 'white' Ralph Lauren jumper by splattering coral acrylic paint over the front of it! I'm devastated and would have thrown a tizzy fit if my kids had done such a foolish thing. But I have to admit that I'm also pleased because it proves that I've spent time in the art room dabbling.
(Don't ask me why I didn't take off the jumper in the first place, because I just wasn't thinking straight perhaps? I was so keen to get into the art room... I just couldn't wait to start painting so all rational thinking flew out of the window)
Maybe if I splatter a little more paint over it, I may come up with a new exclusive design for Ralph?

I've been busy playing host to visitors this past week, but they left yesterday plus phase one of the renovation work here has been completed. The army of tradies have left for a while so this means there's a little window of opportunity to complete some artwork at last... and I'm going for it!

Unfortunately, even though it's nearly the longest day here (tomorrow is the official summer solstice) and incredibly light for this time of night, I didn't manage to take a photo of my painting in time to post... so I'll do that tomorrow.

In the meantime, let me show you my new babies... as you can see I've been very busy today.

Since I visited the RHS Chelsea Flower Show I've been adding to the garden regularly.

I'm thinking that if I can fill the borders then it'll keep the weeds at bay.
I also must let you see the results from my bee mat soon because the wild flowers have come on brilliantly.
I've been very distracted from my blogging lately, but I hope to remedy that soon.
Just before I head off for the night I thought I'd show you this Primula.
(Primula viallii)
It's been making me smile for days.
Each day another row of buds open. Slowly working their way up the stem.
It reminds me of a smurf's hat or perhaps it's from Dr. Seuss' Whoville.
What do you think?

Thanks for popping by...I'd love to hear from you and I promise I'll catch up with all my outstanding emails and replies as soon as I can.

In the meantime...keep smiling everyone

    1. It was indeed Laurie, so much so that I even have my own Chelsea border now with lots of the plants and colours that we saw whilst there.
Now I just need to keep on top of the weeds! ;D
Have fun and I'll see you soon

    1. Hehe I know Nan...it's really unusual. I've never seen a Primula like it.
As to no tradesmen Whoohoo! I'm so liking their absence but as we've only just completed Phase 1...they'll be back but for now I'll enjoy the peace ;D
I hate to admit but those are only the half of the repotted plants...I've got another 48 along another wall plus lots of plants that I've been able to plant straight into the garden. Thankfully not all have be devoured by the greedy slugs...but it's an ongoing fight! Let me tell you...it could get ugly :/
My jumper isn't as bad now that I've used a 'flow improver' over the acrylic splatters and given it another wash. They're still there but not so in your face!
I'm going to hang a large shirt in the room so that I can get into the habbit of changing...plus I like the effect of a splatter here and there but just not on my bestist clothes! hehe
Hugs to you even though you're all steamy :D
Have fun and enjoy your weekend
      xoxo

  3. Denise, I've never seen a flower like that red and purple one. It is gorgeous. As for your sweater.... it is now your official art sweater. I go to work each day and as soon as I arrive home I change into my art clothes. If I didn't I'd have paint on every piece of clothing I own. I go to an art retreat every fall. I'm sure those people think I don't own many clothes because I wear the same thing every year. My art clothes!!

    1. Neither had I Boo...so it was a lovely surprise. I thought it was an ordinary primula until the flower appeared. It's opening up so slowly so will be around for some time I think.
An art sweater...hmm...I never thought that I'd have such an exclusive item to dabble in. You are far more prolific with your art than I am, so I can understand your clothing situation. Maybe one day I'll be the same ;D
Have a wonderful weekend whatever you have planned

    1. Oh Mark...don't add any more pressure please :(
I'm flinging myself all over the place as it is now. Planting up new borders and beds, weeding and battling an army of slugs for starters.
I've managed to grow potatoes, herbs, strawberries and very sick looking beans that have been devoured by the slugs.
I hope to get to planting more veggies but it's not going to be this year. I'm waiting for hubby to agree to a Monty Don greenhouse. The trouble is I've seen how much they are!!! Also raised beds would be nice too.
The area is empty but has to be dug up and cleared. It's full of rubble etc under a very thin cover of earth and weeds!
I think that could be Phase 6 in our current renovation programme.
Anyway...I'll just admire your pristine plot for now and absorb all your knowledge ;D
      Have a great weekend...enjoy!

  5. I say you now have an official fancy painting jumper. May it become covered with all shades of bright colors! :) :)
Love your babies and that flower is a hoot! Brilliant color! It's great that it takes its time blooming so you have the enjoyment for days.

    1. Oh no Rita...I may have saved it ;D
I dabbed it with 'flow improver' and it's diluted the slatters a little. I've washed it again and they've faded. So I may have to find another shirt and splatter that with lots of colours.
The flower isn't even open half way up yet so we'll have it to admire for a wee whilie yet.
Enjoy your weekend whatever you have planned. Have fun and I'll see you soon

  6. Ohhhh Neesie did you go down to the big smoke and buy a Ralph Lauren jumper, lucky, lucky you??? And to think when we were both hanging around together we were both wearing Target?! :) Oops no, that was just me, you were always way more stylish...
You know the real problem here? it's the weather's fault!!! In Australia you wouldn't have needed to be wearing your posh jumper to do your painting .... Just saying.
And talking posh, your flower is dead posh.
Fantastic news that your life is getting to the stage where you can think about painting more, You have achieved so much in the last 12 mths, I take my Royal Ascot hat off to you.
    Miss you!
    Wren x
