  2. Such a simple image, yet so beautiful. It makes me wonder where the track is heading.

    1. The track is part of the old disused railway track from Aberdeen to Ballater. It was closed back in 1966 but work is underway to reinstate part of the track.

I'm playing catch up so apologies for such a late response.
      Have a great weekend

  3. Old steam line? the tufts of grass in the track give it away, our local old line is like this. I love to see the train coming through.

    1. Yes, you're right... the line is being restored in this small part. I must admit I had a panic when I saw the train coming because I'd parked the car on the crossings thinking it was disused. Squealing (I'm sure that wasn't coming from me) I dashed to move the car only to find that it didn't quite reach where we were.
Apologies for the late response... Have a wonderful weekend and perhaps I'll see you on Sunday.

    1. I loved seeing the old steam train puffing away along the old track. It's being restored in parts and seems to be very popular. Hopefully, the track will be extended.
Thanks for hosting and please forgive my late response to your comment. It's been quite a week.
      Enjoy your weekend.

  5. Oooh - I wonder what stories that train line could tell of all the passengers who passed along it over the years?

    1. I would imagine that there would be quite a lot of stories because
Crathes Castle station, located 1/4 mile to the east of Milton of Crathes, was opened by the Deeside Railway in 1853 for the private use of the Laird of Crathes. In 1863 Crathes Castle was renamed Crathes and became a public railway station, a role it retained until the closure of the railway in 1966. Crathes station building is now privately owned and features a replica of the original signal box, whilst the trackbed is owned by the local estate.
Apologies for my late response to your comment.
      Have a great weekend

    1. That's what I thought as I screeched to a halt to capture the moment. I was thrilled when the train came tootling up the track with the engine driver waving to me too.
Have a great weekend and sorry I took so long to reply to your comment.

  7. A simple photo full of wonder and.........get off the track the train's coming!

    1. How did you guess Nan, the train was actually coming towards us and I had our car parked right over the crossings, thinking it was an unused line.
Apparently, it's been taken over by a restoration group and they now tootle up and down a little of the track in the steam train. It wasn't till I nearly pooped my pants and dived into the car to move it, that I saw there was a sleeper across the line which showed they wouldn't have reached us. I was with my friend from Australia (http://littlewanderingwren.blogspot.co.uk) who was staying with us... and I swear we hadn't had any alcohol, but oh boy did we giggle about it for hours after. Especially when the driver waved at us... we thought he was saying "GET OUT OF THE WAY"!!!
      Such a hoot!
Sorry for the delay in my reply but as you can see above I've been out and about having fun... I hope you do too this weekend.

  8. I love these type of photographs, as they have a dream like quality to them. Where is it going? Who is at the other end waiting?

    Fantastic x

    1. I hate to burst the bubble Jo, but I'm not sure many would be waiting at the other end because it's being restored at the moment by volunteers, and they run the train up and then back along a little stretch of the old disused track. Just a little taste of what used to be and hopefully what might be restored for all to enjoy in the coming years.
The line was originally opened in 1853 so there's lots of history surrounding the line.
Have a great weekend and thanks for your comment... I'm just sorry it's taken me so long to reply.

    1. Well yes but not for this mile or so of track as it's been restored to run a steam engine and passenger carriage's but the remaining line is well used by cyclist, walkers, joggers and dog walkers etc.
It stretches from Aberdeen following along the River Dee to Ballater.
Thanks for your visit and comment. Have a great weekend

It would be fabulous to travel further along the odd line because it stretches through beautiful scenery of Royal Deeside and follows the River Dee.

    1. Well at the moment it's a little in the middle Zena,
This part of the track has been restored but once back in the day, the whole railway track ran from Aberdeen to Ballater.
Running through gorgeous Royal Deeside countryside... with mountains and the River Dee alongside.
I'm playing catch up therefore, I'm a little late with my reply's. Thanks for your visit and comment. Have a great weekend.

    1. There was something very timeless and romantic about this view that I couldn't resist capturing Brooke, even when I thought the train was coming right at me and the car was parked across the crossings.
Needn't have worried because it doesn't come that far along the line. Restoration hasn't reached that far yet.
Thanks for your visit and comment and apologies for my late reply.
