Tawny Frog-Mouthed Owl (Podargus strigoides)
This photo was taken in a sanctuary last year, but I'm hopeful that I might get lucky and capture our new visitor soon. The Tawny Frog-Mouthed owl feeds mainly on insects and occasionally rodents....so he's handy to have around and I'm hoping he decides its not a bad neighbourhood. I'll keep you posted....
Here's a link to an unbelievable slow motion footage of an Eagle Owl in flight....I'm awestruck every time I watch it....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LA6XSrM0V_0
I recommend that you watch it on the full screen option.
I've had soooooooooo much trouble trying to load photo's and just completing this post today that I've ran out of time ~ so I'm giving up ; (
Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
I find owls quite fascinating. Always have done! They can sound a bit creepy at night though. xxoo
ReplyDeleteI don't particularly mind hearing an owl at night but when staying in Canada and first heard a loon's call over a still lake...now that was spooky :O
ReplyDeleteFor anyone who hasn't heard the loon, check this out
