Artist Play Room ~ Celebrate!

I'm trying very hard to stay positive as I write today's post...but it's proving a little difficult because our fantastic holiday is coming to an end soon.
We've had such a wonderful time as I think my Canadian posts may have shown. Even the 36 hours without power has become an amusing story to revisit, just so long as we're are cosy, freshly showered and have all the lights on!
Even the 28 hour long haul flight was totally worth the journey. It has enabled me to connect with my family spending quality time with them, plus throw myself down mountains, trying to walk thigh deep in crisp virgin snow, hot tub bathing whilst sipping champers, meeting staff and management who look after this amazing special place, the trials of walking in snow shoes, dashing in and out of the sauna before my bits fell off! Managing in incredible temperatures of -25 degrees that I never would have imagined I'd be able to function outside of my duvet.
It's been like living in my own Christmas card setting or on the set of Wham's 'Last Christmas' video (wow what am I thinking....enough!)
So when I'm back in the sweltering heat of the Australian summer (which apparently has arrived with avengance with temperatures of +40 I'll look back over my photos of which there are hundreds and chill.

I even managed to spend some time with my journal this morning which is something I plan to do frequently over this next year. I'm hoping we become best friends. ;D

After feeding the chickadees this morning (who were very grateful it has to be said) I smiled to myself because I've always called my children 'my chickadees' ever since we first visited Canada a few years back.
Whenever my kids are in the one location then I'm happy. It's not easy having one flown the nest but thankfully she returns frequently and so with this in mind, I thought I'd 'CELEBRATE' this fact by entering into the Artists Play Room with my sketch.

I really didn't give myself as much time as I'd like...and I know that sounds soooooo 2012 but it's difficult when you're on holiday and people expect you to 'stay in the room'. But I had fun which I suppose is the most important thing.

So that's it....I've kicked off the year with my first entry and it feels good.
Thanks Jenn for keeping me focused and continuing to host the Artist's Play Room.

    1. Thanks Mo for your kind words too,
I wasn't sure about the sketch but I had fun so I suppose that's what's important. Plus the sentiment of course!

It's my pleasure to visit you and to leave a comment. I love to have visitors here and so I think it's only right that I return the compliment. Plus it's such a valuable inspiration seeing everyone's work :D

Keep cuddling Jack because as you know they soon grow into 6 foot eating machines....well mine did anyway! ;D

    1. Now that was spooky because I was visiting you whilst you nipped in here...I hope the fire was roaring whilst you were here and did someone make you a cuppa or give you something stronger to keep the cold at bay? I hope so ;D

I'd appreciate you turning the thermastat down just a tweak for us when we return...at least for a day or so until we get back into it!

Thanks for braving the elements and visiting...I know it was a brave step :D
      xoxo

    1. AWW...Laurie that is such a lovely thing to say...thank you ;D
I know you don't have the space, so I'll decline your very generous offer, even though I'd love to spend some more time here.

There's nothing for it but to organise coming back and not waiting over four years like last time!
      xoxo

    1. Imagine Alice, that when we leave here to travel back to Australia we actually lose a whole day somewhere along the way...now that plays with your mind!
But it was good coming this way because we gained a day, so we shouldn't complain. ;D

I seem to be constantly juggling the different time zones across the planet....in fact I think I may even have an 'ology in it! :D

  5. Neesie, it's been such an extreme pleasure having you in my home country for Christmas. I know we're separated by a bunch of frozen Provinces but I do get all warm and fuzzy thinking of you here. (and we're cold here, we need all the warm and fuzzy we can get!!)

Your chickadees are just adorable. I think your family should be flattered. I hope you don't get shell shocked by the possible 65 degree difference in temperature. That would shock even the hardiest of people!

Trace is so nice though, I'm sure she'll turn the thermostat down for you so when you get back it's not such a shock.
    Much Love my friend,
    Jenn

    1. Thank you so much for having me here Jenn, it's been one of the most wonderful memorable holidays we've had and we've had a fair few.
I've enjoyed being nearer to you too...I can at last relate to your time zone...well nearly! ;D

I can't believe how many birds are flitting about here now. Word has certainly got about that there's a soft touch here.
I was even watching a tree-creeper and a wood pecker earlier from the hot tube (as you do :D)
No red cardinal's so far I afraid...but you can't have everything!

I'm trying not to think about the vast differences of temperature from here to Melbourne, but I've asked a few friends (Trace included) to locate and tweak the thermostat button down a touch for a few days upon our arrival until we get back into it!

I may have to live in the pool for a few days until we get acclimatized.

Much love backatcha my friend xoxo

  7. I wouldn't want to be returning to that heat either Denise. Sounds positively unbearable! Funny . . . you and I, a world apart, were both painting chickadees yesterday! xxoo

    1. You're the third thing that has happened like that over the last 24 hours Marie...firstly I went visiting someone's blog whilst she was visiting mine...at EXACTLY THE SAME TIME and we hadn't visited each other for a little while so it was out of the blue.
Then my daughter this morning took a photo that I repeated identically at a later stage, without knowing she'd done one earlier! It's nearly a mirror image!
And then you mention that we were both painting chickadees at the same time...wwwwhhhoooo how bizarre ;D

I'm trying not to think about the changes well basically I'm trying not to think about leaving here until I have to...there may be tears! =(
I hope your cough has improved and that you're getting your layers ready to come over...I'll just nip in quick to check on you before you leave.

  9. Very cute drawing, Neesie! I can see it becoming a Christmas card for next year! I didn't do any art in December... just couldn't get any time off to be on my own, so I can imagine what it was like for you. So glad you're finding the time again to draw. Hope to see more of your art in the coming weeks and months!

    1. Hmmm...now there's a thought Hwee,
I need to start thinking about those sort of things now as I'm always late or I used to be...until this years New Year's resolution!
It's a pity that you didn't get some time to yourself but it was the silly season wasn't it.

Hopefully you can make up for it soon. Have fun and thanks for popping by. :D

It's good medicine for sure ;D
I know I've been a very brave bunny coming from an Australian summer to a Canadian winter...some might say it was an act of lunacy! Whichever it was it's been fantastic :D

I hope your New Year has start well and just gets better with each day xoxo

    1. Hi Gloria,
Phewph...sorry to take so long in replying to your lovely comment...but I was busy crossing half of the planet and have finally landed after 36 hours of travelling none stop back in Melbourne.
I'm so glad to hear that you like my little chickadees. I wasn't sure especially about the hat so it just kept growing! A little like my knitting if I ever attempt any!

I'm trying to get back into the swing of things and hopefully start my visiting soon.
I hope your New Year has started well ;D
      See you soon xoxo

    1. Hi Stefanie,
I'm on the other side now thanks...safely back in Melbourne, although I feel that I'm having the odd out of body experience at times.
The jetlag isn't too bad considering the distance and time travelling that was involved ~ 36 hours in total plus we lost a day! All very bizarre ;D
Thanks for stopping by and I apologise for my delay in writing back.

I hope your New Year has started well and continues to get better each day.
I'm going to try and visit over the weekend...so see you soon :D

    1. Aww thank you Arnoldo for your kind words, I really appreciate them.

I had fun sketching the little chickadees. I don't find sketching in my journal easy but I'm going to try and do more during this year. ;D

I hope your New Year has started well with lots of creativity and continues to improve with each day :D
