What's On Your Workdesk 280 Pastels and Watercolours

Well, here we are at Wednesday once again.
At the moment, it's all beginning to become a little blurred as to what day it is.
So in order for me to make the most of the today I'll be quick.
I've emptied my art folder this afternoon in the hope that I'll manage to finish off a few things.
Although, you can see sun outside the window and the farmers are working away it is rather chilly.
In fact, this morning it was only 5 degrees and apparently I've been told there was even a little flurry of snow for about 5 minutes. I didn't actually see it as I was out and about.
Brrr.... anyway let's move on to my desk (or kitchen table)
So there's the portrait and horse sketch that are still waiting for me to work on
(although I did add a little more shading to the horse earlier in the week ~ whilst football was on the television).
I've actually moved two lamps into this space, so that I can work at night.
It's ideal with so much footy on TV at the moment.
This way everyone is happy
This week in my art group, we used watercolours to produce a monochrome painting.
The piece was to be called a misty moonlight mountain scene... yeah right.
I haven't used watercolours to a great degree, so it was both interesting and slightly scary.
As many of you will know, I like to work as precisely as I can and this exercise was very loose!
I used wax, clingfilm and salt... and we didn't bake a thing!
Unfortunately, you can't really see the moon and it's reflections on the lake but they're there.
Now what else is on my desk...
Oh yes, there's the photo of Mufftypup.
We're going to paint a pet or animal next week... this sadly could end a beautiful relationship between Muffy and me when she sees the outcome. I've tried on numerous occasions to draw her and each time failed miserably.
We'll see if these classes can help.
My teacher seems to think I'll have no problem! (HA!)

The fingerless gloves are where my daughter left them after a painting session in the garage.
She's painting a LARGE canvas so it has to be done out there... plus she can paint with gay abandon in the garage. I'm surprised she can even bend her arms with how many layers she's having to wear... thermals are a must. Which reminds me that it's about time I popped the kettle on to help in the thawing out process.

So that's it for today, but maybe if you have time you would like to nip across to see some more desks throughout the globe...click here to visit Julie over at Stamping Ground.
Have a great day peeps and thanks for stopping by my place.
I hope to see you again soon.

  1. I think your very precise work and your loose watercolor are both equally nice. I suspect learning one will enhance the other.

    Happy creating and Happy Woyww,

    1. Oh I hope so Sandy,
It's really fun to try these different techniques and medium ;D
Also at least with being part of a art workshop, I can guarantee that I get three solid hours of concentration. Something that doesn't happen if I stay at home.
Thanks so much for your visit and comment. I hope you're having a wonderful week.
      Happy WOYWW to you too

  2. a stunning butterfly, and your desk is so inviting the view is majestic, I would love to look out at that all day, I might not get much done though, I love the sound of that big canvas , that was my style before my vision loss, big canvases, it was exhausting but so satisfying! The up coming classes sound wonderful, don't worry , Mufy will always love you,

    1. Maybe I should let you see a panoramic view of the place Laurie ;D
I have to admit I love it and there's always something to see.
It's funny that you should say it's exhausting to work on a large canvas because my daughter was fit for nothing when she came into the house. She was drained and it's not finished yet. She's pleased with it so far so it's been worth it.
I've just finished the portrait and strangely surprised by the outcome... so maybe Muffy will be okay. We'll have to wait and see ^..^
I hope you're having a wonderful week and I'll nip across soon to check up on what's happening your way xoxo

  3. Wow your butterfly looks stunning! As does your horse. I know I keep saying it but you are a talented lady! Love the view from there, it's grey and damp and raining here! It is chilly enough to have the heating on first thing in the morning and for an hour at night. Just to take the chill/dampness off the house. Hope you are well lovely? Take care Zo xx 52

    1. Aww bless you Zo,
Thanks for your kind encouraging words... they're much appreciated ;D
We haven't put the heating on yet, but have the wood burner blasting out all day every day. I think the Aga and heating are coming on line on 1st November! (according to hubby) If it gets much colder though, I will be overruling him!
We don't tend to have the heating on other than first thing and last thing as I don't like how it can make the house stuffy. I like to breath, so the wood burner is great for that.
I'm totally tickertyboo and I hope you are too
(oh my... I didn't mean for that to rhyme)
Anyway, I hope you're well and having a great week.
Thanks for visiting... I'll pop over soon xoxo

  4. What a beautiful view you have from your desk. Your butterfly turned out lovel and the texture of the wings looks so lifelike.

    1. I know I'm very lucky and never take the view for granted.
There's always something to make me stop and stare... no matter what time of day or season ;D
I was pleased with the butterfly and the texture, although I fear I overloaded it a little using too much pastel. But I liked the effect. I've just finished the portrait and used far less, so it's a lot lighter for the skin tones.
Learning all the time, but isn't that the way with art? It's the journey... not always about the destination.
Thanks for stopping by... and I hope you're having a great week so far.

  5. Such a beautiful view from the table Neesie, it would distract me from getting anything done! The paintings are beautiful! It was cold here too this last weekend, -4C cold! Way too early for that, lol! I posted some pretty Autumn photos though, can't believe how fast the year is going.

    1. Well yes, I do find that my eyes are constantly checking over the landscape, but I would rather have it there distracting me than not ;D
Minus 4 Brenda... ARGH! Now that is cold. I'm complaining about 4 degrees above!
I'll pop over to your place once I answer all of my visitors here.
I love the Autumn so it sounds like I'm in for a treat.
Thanks for visiting and your kind words.
Have a great week and hugs to you too.

    1. Aww thanks so much Janet,
I'm pleased with how the butterfly came out in the end and even though I was a little heavy handed with the oil pastels, I think it gives the effect of the wings.
I'm not so sure about Muffy though, but I'll be able to bring her round with some chicken if she's not happy with the outcome.
Thanks for visiting my desk and I'll hop over to you soon.
In the meantime have fun and lots of creativity!

I'm hoping to practice another monochrome landscape during this next week now that I've more of an idea what I'm doing.

  14. Your art work is stunning, Nessie. I love to use the clingfilm effect, it works beautifully doesn't it. I had to smile at the thought of your daughter wrapped up painting away in the garage...I hope she didn't get to cold!! It's supposed to be warmer at the weekend so hopefully she won't need so many layers.

    1. I was really surprised when the roll of clingfilm came out, but it worked perfectly.
I think my daughter was away with the fairies (as happens when we're painting) so she didn't feel the cold until she'd finished.
She went out there again today, but only for a short time. I think you might be right about the weather for the weekend. They're reporting we might have 17 whole degrees! Woohoo
Thanks for visiting and I hope your weekend... no matter what the weather is a good one.

As long as I've not burnt myself out during the day... it's great to work at night. I'm getting so much more done.
This art group is definitely working for me ;D
      I'm a happy bunny!
The only trouble now is to find enough time to visit everyone.
I hope you're having a great week and I'll pop across to see you soon.

  16. I've only just noticed the amazing view from your window - luck lady! Perfect for encouraging your beautiful art work. The butterfly is wonderful, and I love that monochrome landscape. Your daughter obviously takes after you - and I admire her determination in having to work in thermals! Have a great week, Chris # 16

  17. That butterfly is gorgeous. I understand what you mean by being precise and having to 'go loose'. But both are equally beautiful. And I did see the moon and its reflection!
I love the view from your desk. Stunning to look at when it's warm inside and cold out. If you look at my page you'll see that we are building a house. When it's finished I'll have a craft room with a view.
Thank you for letting me look over your shoulder,
    Have a good week

  18. I'm sure that if I reach out my hand I could feel the silkiness of the wings and every little hair on that butterfly's body. It's blimin superb Ms Neesie and the watercolour is fabulous!!

  19. Wow! Love the texture you achieved on them thar hills..how amazing you are, and how modest! So sorry about the cold..but yep, I'm with you, time to install another lamp and use the football hours to be creative!

  20. Wow Neesie, they are brilliant. That monochrome is sensational (I'll need some private lessons from you on those techniques please). The colours on you butterfly are stunning and the blending is just perfect. I've been craning my neck to try and see the horse but I just can't quite see enough. What I can see looks amazing. Eek, when you said the temp is nearly froze! Your poor daughter out there in the cold. I hope you're going to put heating in there for her :) Even though it's freezing your view is beautiful.
    Have a great week,

  22. Gorgeous artwork, Neesie. Sometimes it's good to step outside one's comfort zone! For years I was ever so precise, and then I went through a phase of doing big murals with a decorator's brush - from the sublime to the ridiculous! Now I've sort of settled down to a happy medium, although my natural preference it towards precision. (I'm much less OCD than I used to be lol!!) The colours on your butterfly are so vibrant, and again, it's a contrast with the monochrome piece. A great post - full of contrasts!

    Happy belated WOYWW,
