Paint Party Friday and Sketches... Butterfly

Today has been a truly autumnal morning with sun shining brightly but accompanied by the wind which appears to be in a hurry to move us on to winter.
Summer has definitely slipped away as have the swallows.
Sadly I never saw them go, but in their place I've seen fantastic flocks of geese fly overhead.
Truly a spectacle to be seen and heard.
A visually striking performance flying in formation as they call out to each other.
Their voices are carried on the wind and can be heard long before they come into view.
So with the change of the season, I thought that my artwork today would be to celebrate last summer... before I move on to autumn and all of it's colourful splendor.

I took so many photographs of butterflies over the past few months, that it seems only right to draw one.
In fact, I hope to draw two... one in my favourite black ink line drawing style, but another with colour...
but hopefully much more loosely.
Firstly, I designed a template in order to try to obtain a symmetrical design.
I've been twisting and turning the paper plus myself in this attempt... a little like trying to take up a new intricate yoga position that is really only do-able for the extreme guru master!
Maybe I should take up yoga instead of art?
Now there's a thought...

I used my trusty Micron pens on A3 Daler - Rowney, Bristol Board - Airbrush ( 250g/m²) paper.
I feel so comfortable with creating this kind of drawing now, that perhaps this is my style and I should stick with it. Although, I'm trying lots of different media and techniques in my new art group, so who knows what else might become familiar and comfortable over the next few months.
It's all very exciting.
Did you spot the difference...?
No, not in the design but the fact that I'm on to my second cuppa whilst only inking the outline!
I'm a real teapot.

Because it's Friday, I'm linking up with Eva and Kristin's Paint Party Friday blog...

That's why I'd rather you didn't look too closely Deb ;D
Well I finally have to except that summer has gone but I do adore autumn so I'm not too unhappy. How can you not love it with all of it's gorgeous colours.
You be careful with those windows open... you'll catch a chill.
I've seen at least five seperate lots fly over here. Two flying North but three flying South!
Hugs to you too and I hope you have a great weekend

  3. Great butterfly drawing. I have a problem with symmetry as well, perhaps that why I do zany girls as then I don't have to get the eyes to match!!!

  4. Another good looking sketch in the raw on the table, and it's gonna be a doozy - ooh, is that an echo? Lol. Well it has to be said twice, because it's true. I look forward to seeing it come to life.
I watched my first flock of geese of Autumn just yesterday. I love to see them in formation and like to imagine what they're chattering about way up there in the blue. We've had some gorgeous weather this past week and hope it will continue a little longer; it certainly makes the shorter days that bit more bearable. Have a great weekend whatever you are doing ((Hugs)) xox

    1. Aww thanks so much for your lovely comment ;D
Hey I think that maybe the same flock of geese fly over both of us... who knows? I like that idea. That reminds me that last night whilst tucked up in bed (with the window open) we heard another flock fly over. It was an incredible sound. Just think how clever they are to do that! Or one of them has got a touch and a map!
Glorious weather here too and it's still with us. It's a tad chilly but I don't mind that. Brilliant bright sunshine and blue skies. Yay!
Have a wonderful weekend too ((hugs backacha))

  13. I'm smiling...you tea, me coffee, your sharp, neat lines (and table!), me 'here and there' and messy when creating........ :) :) :)
Right now everything is in order but you should've seen how this table looked yesterday, oh! I'm doing several works at the same time (waiting for drying) so I have different mediums all around me...I love it but cleaning afterwards that is not that nice because creating has taken all my energy (but I do it) :)
Can't wait to see your work finished!
    Happy weekend!

I would love to be a little more messy and loose with my painting, but it just doesn't happen.
I'm looking forward to getting back to the butterflies soon, but the sun was shining earlier so I went out to make the most of it whilst it was there.
You have to do that when you live in Bonnie Scotland.
Enjoy your weekend and have fun with PPF.

You've made me grin from ear to ear.
I think so many artists love autumn but then how could we not with it's colourful display.
I'm not sure what colours will be on the butterfly. The first one will be just black ink but then anything goes for the colour one. It'll be a surprise for me too ;D
Thanks so much to taking time out to visit my place.
I hope your weekend is going well and just gets better!

    1. Aww thanks Diane,
I'm so happy that everyone is so encouraging about my drawing.
I have watercolour pencils but haven't really got to grips fully with them yet. It's on the plan though.
I don't think it matters what you do as long as you enjoy the process or journey. Especially when it's creative.
Have a wonderful week whatever you get up to. Have fun!

    1. Well I knew I wanted to draw two butterflies and thought I'd never manage to draw one symmetrical never mind two (hehe) so the template was my cop out!
I'm looking forward to getting back to drawing again today hopefully.
I've also seen so many more geese since last Friday. In fact I even heard them fly over in the dark last night. An incredible sound.
Enjoy your week and thanks for calling into my place.

  18. I've always had a particular fondness for ink and watercolors. Our swallows have been gone a while, the geese are calling overhead, the leaves are beginning to fall, and there's a nip in the air. My favorite time of year. Can hardly wait to see the end products with your butterflies. :)

    1. I adore autumn too Rita for all of those things you've highlighted. But if asked I'm not sure what season I'd say was my favourite. I love them all for different reasons.
I missed them all so much when living overseas... so I'm enjoying each one as much as I can.
I'm going to try to finish a little more of the butterfly today... wish me luck!
Thanks for popping in and leaving yet another lovely comment.
Have fun this week and enjoy those autumn sights and sounds.

  20. Hi Neesie - I can see all your, I was going to say downward dog, efforts in your magnificent butterflies! Hope that doesn't sound too rude there is a yoga pose called Butterfly but this is obviously too advanced for me... so I don't know that one haha. Oh hang on, there is a downward dog in there, it is McMufty saying when is she going to get a walk? Love seeing all your work, you are amazing, and I bet your hanging baskets are glorious too and all your ironing done!! :) You're one clever lady.
    Have a great week.
