Well that was quite a night last night due to the incredibly strong winds that blew through this way.
So much so that we could virtually feel the house shake.
I was constantly woken up by the intruder light going off and on due to all the movement of trees, bushes and who knows what else.
It gave me a tiny snippet of what it might be like to experience a tornado. Rather frightening.
Thankfully, there wasn't too much damage and debris when I checked around the garden this morning.
The bird table (placed on the floor so that it didn't fall and break thankfully is still intact) but empty!
And some of the feeders were no where to be found!
I feed the bird visitors in my garden every morning and I became aware of masses of eyes, tweets, and twitterbations going on as I wandered around the garden.
Where was breakfast????
This gave me a fun idea for a sketch...
I certainly had fun with this one... so decided that I'd carry on and add colour
I started off in my normal precise way but then reminded myself that I want to try to be a little more loose with my work... so took a deep breath and dived right in!
I was thinking I should get out my bird books in order to get the correct plummage and colours but then that would be defeating the object and didn't seem fitting for this Friday fun sketch... so I ignored my urge.
I even look at the wood work and nearly come out in a rash at how random the lines are.
I'm pleased I've kept it so loose but I'm not promising that I might head back at some stage and tweak or maybe even take this theme and redo it.
I'm linking up with Eva and Kristin's Paint Party Friday
Why not make a cuppa and nip over to see lots of amazing artwork.
That's me done for today...
It's Friday night so let the weekend commence.
Have fun everyone!
That's some crazy ass wind hey?! My birdbath - my cast iron bird bath!! - was tipped over! but otherwise we were very lucky. Lots of trees down hereabouts. roof tiles missing and a chimney or two down, but no injuries thank heaven :D Hope we get through tomorrow as easily.
ReplyDeleteYour picture is fabulous Denise! I'm so impressed with how 3D it looks. The birds are so cute and well done you for not letting the twitchy fingers 'tidy it up' ;) A while ago I tried doing a sketch of the view from where I sit in the lounge; I wanted it to be loose and sketchy, but I ended up spending three nights on it and got almost every curtain wrinkle and machine dials laid down *sigh* Lol Still no current work from me, Feels like my mojo maybe emigrated for the Winter :O
Hope not.
Have a fab weekend. Stay warm. Stay safe. ((hugs)) xxx
You're telling me Mo,
DeleteThankfully my birdbath stayed grounded. I think you had worse than us down here, but it certainly kept me awake waiting for the next crash or bang. Thankfully we didn't suffer any damage either.
It's been gusty with sleet coming at us horizontally today! But in between we've seen sun so all very mixed up.
Oh boy, I did have twitchy fingers though and even started off using a ruler until I gave myself a strict talking to!
I think I remember your fantastic lounge sketch. I'm sure that I wouldn't have that much patience to spend three nights on any of mine. I tend to go for detail but for a short time and then move on (mostly to chores, taxi service or generally whatever is nagging at my guilty button)
I'm sad to hear your mojo is playing hard to get. I had that happen to me when I first came back here...and it's not nice but rest assured they always come back. It could be just hibernating for now or having a wee rest after the Christmas holidays.
I hope your weekend is going well. Stay cosy and safe too
Hugs to you xoxo
I love this picture you painted. It's so nice and you did a great job.
ReplyDeleteJulie
Oh thanks Julie,
DeleteI did have fun and the birds did extremely well out of it once I found and filled all of the feeders.
I love to see all of them... we even had fifteen goldfinches in one tree yesterday!
I think that's my record at one time.
Enjoy your weekend xoxo
Neesie, I love this one, and especially the wooden windows! The birds at the window make me think of a Disney movie like Cinderella!
ReplyDeleteDo you Christine... I'm not so sure but I like the idea and it was fun.
DeleteI've had lots of praise for the wooden windows which has surprised me.
What a flattering comment that it reminds you of a Disney movie... you've made my night!
Have a wonderful weekend
xoxo
Love the casualness of this piece! its good sometimes to not be sooo precise, Nessie. A fun quick painting...cool. Now I hope you did put out something for the little ones. :) Warm hugs
ReplyDeleteThat's what I was aiming for Nan. If I think about drawing too much beforehand I can tie myself in knots before I even start... so I just went for it. I didn't want it to be a serious piece of work.
DeleteThe idea was a fun one, so I wanted the painting to be too.
Don't worry about the birds here because they get fed very early... sometimes even before Muffy and certainly before me!
I'm just that kinda girl
Warm hugs back to you too... although I'm sure you're toastier than me with our hoolie winds and snow showers!
xoxo
Fun watercolor; caught the feeding frenzy!
ReplyDeleteThanks... I'm glad that that came across in the painting.
DeleteHave a great weekend whatever you have planned... Enjoy!
Oh No! You'll need to buy more feeders if you can't find the missing ones or those birds will give up coming to your window--LOL! Cute sketch! :)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Rita... all present and correct now.
DeleteI couldn't stop feeding my visitors because I love them like my own!
I've noticed the numbers increase (along with the seed bill) since we first came back and yesterday I counted fifteen goldfinches in one tree alone. We've also got pairs of blackbirds and lots of robins now to name but a few. Oh and not forgetting the woodpeckers too.
Great to have to pop across especially in this weather.
Keep cosy and I'll see you soon.
Have a great weekend xoxo
This is positively wonderful. I especially love the window! It looks so real to me. How fantastic that you were able to get all those curves and layers just right!
ReplyDeleteAww Faye you are too kind,
DeleteI am pleased with the outcome of the window and it appears to have caught a few peoples attention which is wonderful.
I really need to try and do this kind of painting more often so that it comes natural to me. I'm a stickler for getting details right so it's a good exercise for me to lighten up a little. (well for now anyway... hehe)
Thanks for your lovely comment and I hope you're having a great weekend.
Enjoy!
Love the sketch Neesie! I can only imagine how wonderful it would be if you reworked it and just ran with the theme.... Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteI might well rework this one because I love the idea Deb,
DeleteI'll be sure to let you see the outcome if I do :D
Hugs to you too... have a fantastic weekend whatever you have planned.
Have fun!
xoxo
Wonderful sketch...love how the wood pops you have so much depth being a little more loose.. I think there is a lot of movement too... Oh by the way your link on ppf doesn't work. I was so glad you stopped by so I didn't have to search for your address!! Just re add it!!
ReplyDeleteHugs Giggles
Thanks Giggles,
DeleteI really struggle to loosen up but I'm hoping it'll become second nature and be worthwhile soon.
In the meantime I'll keep struggling ;D
ppf... hmm... I have no idea why that would be or what I can do about it!
Maybe it'll just correct itself???
Thanks for your visit and I hope you're enjoying your Sunday evening.
Hugs back to you
Love how you painted the wood - gorgeous! One of my goals is to be more loose in my art journal too - thanks for the push in the right direction!
ReplyDeleteI liked this piece as just a sketch and liked it even more with color. I enjoy seeing your process as you work a piece one way and another.
ReplyDeleteDarla
I love this , so much fun and light spirited!
