Yet another busy week this week.
I'm trying to catch on so many things, but I did manage to finish the painting from last week.
My Week On A Page #2
So here it is...
(If you missed or would like to read about why I've chosen the objects that I have... then click here)
Initially, I roughly sketched the objects with a pencil.
Then I under-painted them.
This is a new technique for me but one that I now love to do and think it makes such a big difference to the finished painting. I'm trying to keep this loser style and it's certainly enabling me to paint more. I'm not getting too precious with details which can take up so much time.
I'm enjoying this new style and hope it will evolve.
I used Kuretake: Gansai Tambi Japanese watercolour paints to build up the layers.
Then outlined with a black pen.
I also wrote a brief description to remind myself of why I chose each object.
The highlights are painted with silver watercolour paint but unfortunately it doesn't show up very well in this photograph. I like it especially on the birdfeeder and bottle.
It's a brief post today because I want to start a new painting so please forgive me.

Thank you for your visit ... I'm still trying to visit everyone who has visited my place over the last few weeks, but it's taking me some time.
If I haven't got to you yet please be patient... I'll hopefully visit you as soon as I can.
In the meantime enjoy your weekend... have fun and lots of creativity.
Hi Neesie,
ReplyDeleteI really like the vibrant color you achieved on the wisk handle.... Hugs! deb
Thanks Deb, I wasn't sure whether to add another layer to the handle but decided to leave well alone in the end. It could have been one step too far ;D
DeleteThanks for your visit and comment.
Have a great weekend
laurie has left a new comment on your post "My Week On A Page #2 - PPF":
ReplyDeletebeautiful sketching and the painting oh my, so rich, beautiful!!!
Apologies Laurie... I opened your comment at 3am and pressed what I thought was the publish button but my aim must have been off because it deleted it. Obviously my eyes and fingers don't work too well at 3am!
DeleteI've retrieved from the delete box and published it now.
Anyway thanks for your lovely comment because it means a lot to me.
Have fun this weekend xoxo
Lovely work again, Happy PPF, Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI feel better for finishing it Valerie-Jael,
DeleteNow I'm ready to start another project.
Happy PPF to you too ;D
What a delightful week....each item is so perfect....love your style and talent.
ReplyDeleteAww thank you so much Wanda, I'm still experimenting with style so hopefully I'll find mine soon ;D
DeleteAs for the talent, I'm not so sure but I realise I'm very lucky to be able to have the time to play. It's hard to make painting a priority and I'm still not there but hopefully one day I will be.
Have a great weekend and thanks for your comment.
This things look all so perfekt! Great sketchen and watercolorong - I am thrilled about it!
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF!
Aww thank you so much Susi, I really appreciate your kind comment.
DeleteI enjoyed painting it and hope to carry on with this style.
Happy PPF to you too ;D
Have a great weekend
It turned out really well Neesie - I love your handwriting around each item as well - gives it such a personal feel!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nic, bu that handwriting is so scruffy... I rushed it to take the photo's to link up, but at least it'll remind me why I've picked such random stuff to paint on a page. It's great fun and is helping me get over my fear and anxieties about painting. Each one seems to make me more relaxed.
DeleteI'm hoping a new style for me will become apparent over time as my usual attention to detail can get in the way of the fun sometimes.
This is a beautiful piece you are so talented!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you Christine... you are too kind.
DeleteIt's lovely to hear positive comments especially when you're trying out a new style.
Have a great weekend... Happy PPF to you
Forgive you? Any day especially when it gives you more time to draw and paint. I know that the Masters all under painted - I think it is to give the painting more depth. All I know for sure is that your art work is fabulous. I really think you ought to do some painted sketch books and sell them. There are far less talented people who do just that!
ReplyDeleteLove your work Sugar!!
Sandy xx
Aww thanks Sandy, you're always so full of praise for my work.
DeleteI've been thinking (procrastinating) about creating a colouring book for well over a year now. I would have been right at the start of this latest craze. I now see them in all of the newsagents and bookstores which really gets to me. I'm now wondering if I've left it too late and the fad will stop soon. I'm not even sure how to go about getting a publisher.
Hey... maybe you could be my USA agent? 10% eh? How's that?
Thanks once again for your lovely comment... you're a Honey if I'm Sugar!
Have a wonderful weekend
Hi Nessie ~ I enjoyed your comment on my blog and since it's not my personal blog I didn't have pictures of Molly. I added one to my sidebar. It' s warm in Southern CA so we keep Molly cut pretty short. Check it out. Have a great day~
ReplyDeleteHehe... I nipped across to your place to have a wee lookee see at Molly. Thank you for adding her into your sidebar so I could be nosy! She's very like my Mufftypup. Muffin will be going to the groomers on Wednesday but won't be cut too short as it's not exactly hot here... we're lucky if we get warm. She's also a hot house pup with living in the Middle East and then Australia before coming here.
DeleteI hope you have a great day too and thanks once again ;D
Wow the colors here really pop! I have never tried underpainting but this is inspiring. I feel my watercolors are often lacking and sort of flat. Enjoy the choices you made here. Now go have fun with that new painting!
ReplyDeleteWell, neither had I tried underpainting before taking Tracey Fletcher King Delicious Paint class. I can't say enough about what a difference it makes.
DeleteReally... you should have a go Ginger.
If you do I'd love to see some of your work.
I've had a little play at a new painting using this new style and I'm having such fun.
Have a great weekend and thanks for your lovely comment.
Happy PPF to you
This ended up being fantastic. Glad you showed us the final finished piece!
ReplyDeleteAhh... thank you Erika,
DeleteI'm pleased with it but it's lovely to have others like your work too.
I'm quite excited about another painting I'm currently playing with... I'm trying to use the same style, but we'll see how it turns out.
I hope to show it to you all next Friday.
Have a wonderful weekend and Happy PPF to you.
Great sketch, wonderful color and I love the use of handwriting! Thanks for sharing your steps.
ReplyDeleteMy handwriting wasn't too good on this painting because I had to rush to take the photo to join in with the linky.
DeleteI like to see other artists progression with a piece, so I thought I'd add mine in case anyone was interested.
Enjoy your weekend and Happy PPF to you
Love all the detail. It's wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jo,
DeleteIt's a new project and style thanks to the inspiration of Tracey Fletcher King's class.
I'm now trying to reproduce it into other work.
I'm enjoying the week on a page because I don't feel pressure and it's getting me to paint almost every day. I'm loving it!
Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great weekend too.
Happy PPF to you.
I love seeing the different steps. It's amazing how much difference a simple black outline can make, and I also like the writing around the different objects.
ReplyDeleteI love the black lines too denthe, and couldn't imagine not adding them now ;D
DeleteI hoped that the wording would help people understand why I chose the objects that I did. The writing was a little scruffy because I had to rush to take the photo and post it.
Next time I'll slow down and give myself time to write properly.
Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment.
Have a great week... enjoy!
I am loving this looser painting style.. you make regular objects look so beautiful much like Tracey does!! With yet a different eye!!
ReplyDeleteHugs Giggles
That's a wonderful compliment Giggles, because I've been a huge fan of Tracey's work... now I just have to tweak it and find my own style keeping this loose style.
DeleteI've had fun today in the studio trying just that and hopefully I'll be able to finish it and post it on Friday.
In the meantime have fun wrapped with lots of creativity ;D
hello what a superb painting..thank you for your lovely comment on my blog
ReplyDeleteThank you Lorraine, I appreciate your comment.
DeleteIt was also my pleasure to visit your blog.
Have a great week with lots of creativity.
I do love this style of sketching and painting...its like a visual dairy in the true sense of the word. I keep seeing this on yours and Tracey's blog and think... I MUST try it!! Your handwriting is fabulous as it wraps itself around each item. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love your beautiful pages! You made ordinary items look so cool, and tied it all beautifully with those gorgeous vines. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful drawing and painting. I really like how you composed the different pieces on the page, and how you added the handwriting. The colours are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful!! Love the pages and colors. So bright/happy. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteNora
very nice :) nie line drawings and colours :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful paintings! It's also lovely how the notes coordinate with the objects -- these are very lovely studies!
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic, Neesie! You've done a wonderful job here. I LOVE it! :)
ReplyDeleteLove this style. And as I commented before, I like how you journal in between each object to bring them together. While you state that you are being less precise in the detail I see so much detail that the objects look very realistic. Inspiring work!
ReplyDeletethe page has come together beautifully... I am tempted to send you some fluffy fabric softener so you can choose between whether you want a doozy of a fluffy to soften your clothes lol... and the underpainting works so perfectly for you... so much depth... makes me very happy seeing this...xx
ReplyDeleteI am always inspired to pull out my watercolors and paint some everyday items around me when I visit here. Your illustrations of your daily life are awesome - how fun to have them as a journal.
ReplyDeleteI love your artwork. I find it interesting that you do the graphite first, then color, THEN you add the ink. I usually do graphite, ink, then the color. I like how you do it better. :D Wonderful results!
ReplyDeleteThis actually looks like it could be kitchen wallpaper. I love the design and the colors. Blessings, Janet PPF
