For my Sunday Photo this week I've chosen a nautical sculpture from the waterfront at Stonehaven.
Stonehaven is a town on the North East coast of Scotland.
It's about a thirty minute drive from Aberdeen.
I came across this sculpture a few months back whilst walking along the sea front, after indulging in a beautiful full Scottish breakfast.
I've tried to find out details of the artist who created this incredible trawler (fishing boat) to give them a shout out and credit, but I'm afraid I can't find any details.
It's about a meter long and the fishermen are actually all fish and their catch are matchstick men!
The artist obviously had a sense of humour.
As usual I'm linking up with My Sunday My Sunday Photo and My Captured Moment
and Through my lens
Why don't you come over and join me.
Enjoy your Sunday
xoxo
OH what a wonderful find.
ReplyDeleteI would be beside myself.
Thanks so much for sharing.

It was my pleasure to share Patty,
DeleteThere are a few different types of metal sculptures on the waterfront, but I think this is the best one.
That is a great sculpture - and very interesting to turn the tables on the fish and the men! #mysundayphoto
ReplyDeleteI thought it was very clever of the artist to flip (no pun intended) the fish and fishermen. It really is such a clever and intricate piece of art.
DeleteWhat a fascinating sculpture, rich in the details. I'm always so impressed by anyone who has taken the time and effort to create something like this.
ReplyDeleteThere must have been an amazing amount of time and effort spent on this sculpture, so it seems a shame to not know the artist who created it. I'd love to find out more.
DeleteThat is a fascinating sculpture, I wonder why you can't find any details about it? I bet there is a really interesting story behind it. a great picture xx
ReplyDeletePossibly because the artist doesn't want anyone to know. I've put the photo on Twitter and Instagram to see if anyone can help, but others have tried before me, so I'm not expecting anything... but we'll see.
DeleteIf I do get any details I'll be sure to post about it.
A clever artist and a lovely discovery, certainly makes a great photo
ReplyDeleteI thought it was something that might interest the Sunday Photo linky gang. I'm glad you like it.
DeleteI hope you have a great week ahead.
Oh, that is just wonderful! What a fantastic find, love it!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly makes people stop in their tracks Sara,
DeleteI thought it was so clever and obviously the artist is very talented.
I'm happy to hear you loved it ;D
Isn't this just brilliant? I love sculptures like this; they're so intricate with detail. Fascinating!
ReplyDelete#SundayPhoto
I thought so too Tracey, each time I look at it I find something that I missed initially. I think it's shows an amazing imagination and talent to create such a brilliant sculpture.
DeleteTalented sculptor who should meet the sculptor my post today is about; an octopus holding a ship.
ReplyDeleteI've just been across to your place to check the octopus. We certainly are having a nautical theme between us today.
DeleteThey are both incredibly talented sculptors.
Interesting sculpture!
ReplyDeleteI thought so too Brooke,
DeleteIt's just perfect for where it's situated.
That is a stunning sculpture and picture! Thought it was an actual scuttled boat at first. #MySundayPhoto
ReplyDeleteHa! I'm glad you thought that John because that's the angle I was hoping for when I took the photo.
DeleteI thought it was amazing and glad that everyone seems to appreciate it.
i just love public artworks and this one is a beaut. great photo neesie.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it just Sherry,
DeleteThere are other pieces of sculpture along the waterfront, but I think this one is my favourite.
i saw that someone suggested andy scott the artist who did the Kelpies also did this but it doesnt seem anywhere near the artistry and skill level he has.
DeleteWhat a great sculptor, it's so unique I wonder what the story is behind it
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up
I'd love to know too Darren,
DeleteIf I find out anymore details I'll be sure to post them.
Thanks for the link... I really enjoy thinking and planning my entry each week.
What a great sculpture! It looks facinating x #MySundayPhoto x
ReplyDeleteIt was a fantastic sculpture and one I would like to know more about.
DeleteWhat a superb sculpture! What a shame the artist hasn't got a plaque or any means of identification to be found. They deserve some applause! :D
ReplyDeleteWe are -5 in our little area today. Shame I have to go out :( Brrrr - Ask Muffy to make space on the aga s'il vous plait ;) xoxo
I feel exactly the same way Mo... I'd love to know more. The only name I could find is when I zoomed in on the boat name. I initially thought it said 'James & Beth' but now I see it as 'James & Seth'
DeleteI'll keep looking into finding out more details and if I'm successful I'll be sure to post it.
We were also -5 last night, but we're now at a tropical '0'!!!
We didn't need to go out this morning other than our doggy walk. We all wrapped up really well... Muffy too and it was great. The sun was shining and the wind dropped. It was very icy, but I'd rather that than wet and soggy.
No problem with the Aga space... there's two hotplate lids on the top. Muffy has the cooler one covered with a towel, so you'll have to have the hot one. It'll be fine... just so long as you keep moving (alot)!
I hope your weekend has gone well and you're ready for a fun packed week ahead.
Gorgeous, I actually thought it was a shipwreck at first Neesie x
ReplyDeleteHehe... that was a little naughty of me Cathy, because that's what I intended when I took the photo from that particular angle.
DeleteVery interesting story and sculpture too. It is so very arty of them to do such cool sculpture without leaving any names.
ReplyDeleteBoth cool, but also a little annoying because I'd love to know more. Not only about the sculpture but also the artist.
DeleteThis is great. I love public sculptures too. Such a shame we don't know who it's by. #MySundayPhoto
ReplyDeleteIt certainly catches you eye when visiting the waterfront.
DeleteNow I just need to find out more details about it.
That;s so interesting. At first glance I thought it was a very nice shipwreck! :)
ReplyDeleteI've caught a few out with taking the photo from this angle. Quite a few people initially thought it was a real shipwreck.
DeleteWhat a wonderful sculpture...A fantastic find x
ReplyDeleteI have seen the sculpture a few times Kim, but this time I had my camera with me and wanted to share it with everyone who wasn't able to visit the area.
DeleteFabulous! I would love to see this in real life - and I would really love to have a delicious Scottish breakfast - oh yum!
ReplyDeletesandy xx
Hehe... I thought you might Sandy,
DeleteAs for the full Scottish breakfast... well I certainly don't need lunch or even dinner after eating one!
Oh Wow! Isn't it an incredible piece. Looks much larger than a meter -- just the way it's photographed. I've been to Stonehaven .. years ago .. lovely little village by the sea .. has a castle close by I believe. Thanks for showing us .. I love it. hugs, Donna
ReplyDeleteThat's right Donna, I took it from that particular angle so that it would look like a real shipwreck.
DeleteOh how interesting that you've visited Stonehaven... so you'll know exactly what it's like at the little fishing village.
You are quite right about the castle nearby... It's called Dunnottar Castle and is a ruined medieval fortress located upon a rocky headland. I must visit and take my camera along.
I'm so happy that you liked the photo.
Now that would give me a giggle every time I saw it! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly a fun piece of art and makes me smile whenever I see it.
DeleteWhat a fabulous sculpture and I love the fact that the fishermen are fish and their catch are matchstick men :-)
ReplyDeleteI liked that they had reversed roles too Louise... I think it shows that the artist has a great sense of humour
DeleteOh that's wonderful! I love that the fishermen are fish! It would be fun to know more about this artist, but I'm really glad I got to see it, thank you!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it just Lisa, I think he/she has quite a sense of humour as well as masses of artistic talent.
DeleteIt was my pleasure to share it.
Great find, Neesie! It looks much bigger. Yes, I would say the artist has a great sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteThe sizing has caught a few people out Laurie.
DeleteThat particular photograph angle has achieved what I set out to do... to make it look like a real shipwreck.
Cool piece of art! So glad you shares it with us. Love the artist's sense of humor. Sometimes an anonymous piece is me intriguing....really gets you thinking and thus brings more enjoyment. And since y'all are talking temps: 48F here at the moment. Gonna be a cold one tonight. McMuffty would be welcome to come for a visit. I don't think the Girls would mind as she's their size. ;) I keep the inside temp set at 82F ... McMuffty would love it! Have a wonderful week, Nessie. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI think you could be right Nan... it certainly gets you thinking more when the artist is anonymous.
DeleteNow then about this visit... 48F you say? Well that's tropical to us at the moment. We are barely getting into positive numbers. I won't complain though because I'd much rather it cold, crisp and brighter than what we've just been experiencing over the last month or so. Grey, dark days with floods and hoolies blowing!
McMuffy's virtually packing her backpack Nan, although I'm not so sure you're girls would like her to come. I don't think she'll be popular once she chases and gives them the run around! 82F does sound delish though... any room for a bigger one by any chance? :/
I hope you have a wonderful week too. Hugs back to you.
That is a terrific sculpture in just the right location. From the thumbnail I thought this might be a painting, but no, a great photo.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if it's someone local to the area because as you say it is perfect for the location.
DeleteI'm glad you like it.
i love this sculpture. Glad you found it and shared it with us.
ReplyDeleteI do too Margaret, it was a complete surprise when I walked along the waterfront. I'm happy to share such finds.
DeleteWhoever created that is very talented, love it #MySundayPhoto
ReplyDeleteI do too Mary and I totally agree... they are incredibly talented and obviously have a sense of humour
DeleteOh I really like this! What a great find :)
ReplyDeleteIt was such a pleasant surprise when I first came across it Lisa,
DeleteThere are other sculptures along the sea front but I think this one is the best.
What a wonderful sculpture! So appropriate for the seaside. Love it!
ReplyDeleteSo do I Marie, there are other pieces of sculpture but they're not as intricate or detailed as this one. I think it's perfect and has that added sense of humour
DeleteWhat a wonderful sculpture, I love that the fishermen are fish!! Great capture.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for linking up to #MyCapturedMoment, I hope you can join again tomorrow xxx
Thanks, I think it's a very amusing twist and great sculpture.
DeleteDid you ever find out the sculptor? I've trying to find out too
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I didn't Emily, even though I tried every avenue I could.
DeleteDid you ever find out who the sculptor was? I've been trying to find out too
