Okay, so one week on and I've still not got an actual desk to show you.
The room is in the process of being painted this week and I have to confess it does seem a little odd to actually paint the room when it'll probably have splashes and splodges of additional colour probably within a few days of my daughter and I moving into it. But every room in the house is having new windows and repainted with a fresh lick of paint....art studio included.
Anyway...I have something to show you today, but I don't want you to think that I've lost the plot or have a fit of giggles and cause yourself a mischief.
Okay well why not...(have a giggle that is and not the injury)
It's good to have a laugh isn't it?
Some of you may remember that I have picked up my knitting needles after a 20+ year gap and I was happily clicking away with no intention of actually producing anything.
But then my daughter sent me an incredible newspaper article from 'The Guardian' newspaper, which requested knitters to pick up their needles and help out, knitting penguin jumpers!
How cute are these little guys?

Now I just couldn't resist that request could I?
But it appears once again that I'm tail-end Charlie and too late to help out this time.
Thankfully the penguins have enough jumpers donated for the moment.
It's brilliant news to know that everyone responded brilliantly, but now I wonder what do I do with this...?
It's far too small for Muffy even if she gave up all of her treats ^..^
I'll just have to carry on and finish it...who knows...there maybe need for more at another time and I'll be ready and organised.
If you'd like to check out some more craft and art desks around the globe then click here to join in the fun with Julia over at Stamping Ground Blog.
Thanks for popping over to my place...it's always great to see you.
Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone and I hope to see you again soon.
xoxo
We saw the article about Peguin jumpers too. Jane sent the details to her mother, who was going to do some, but I don't know if she ever got round to it.
ReplyDeleteThey had me at the first photo Mark...how could I resist but unfortunately I'm obviously not a fast enough knitter! ;D
DeleteI've been to the Garden Centre this morning so guess what I'll be doing this week?
A stash of bulbs, plants, seeds and two huge bags of compost jumped into my trolley!
Thanks for stopping by and I wish you have a fantastic week whatever you have planned.
Yes someone sent me this link this week too. Glad I noticed that it is too late to join in. They do look cute though don't they! x Jo #46
ReplyDeleteThey melt your heart Jo...I only saw the second photo initially but that group photo just gave me such a chuckle. Surf's up! ;D
DeleteThanks for stopping by...have fun and enjoy your week whatever you have planned.
I hope to visit soon xoxo
oh my gosh that is adorable!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI know Laurie...it's almost too cute! ;D
DeleteEven if my jumper is too late it might just do for Muffy after yesterday's grooming session...she's now scalped and half her size.
I'll have to get a wriggle on though to finish it before her coat grows back!
xoxo
Love the penguins in their woolies!!! Good Luck with all the decorating, bet you are itching to get back into your studio.
ReplyDeleteHugs Lisax #54
Itching indeed Lisa...realistically though I know it's going to take a little while before we're straight. Maybe I'll be able to do the odd piece of artwork on the kitchen table to keep my sanity! ;D
DeleteHugs to you too and I hope you have a great week.
Thanks for calling by my place
xoxo
How cute are those penguins in their jumpers?! Good on you for trying though, I knitted up until a couple of years ago but found it hurt too much to do. I could never manage to stop knitting before pain set in. Me & Baxter have been enjoying the dry weather & have enjoyed some time in the garden. Building his confidence again at being outside. Take care Zo xx 82
ReplyDeleteHi Zo,
DeleteOne of the reasons why I decided to try the knitting after so long was to help build up my wrist strength again after breaking it. It seems to be working although it does let me know when it's had enough.
It's a shame you had to give it up but I can understand why.
I hope you and Baxter are having lots of fun in the sun!
He sounds adorable ^..^
Take care too and have a fabulous Friday with a wonderful weekend to boot!
xoxo
How cute are they in those jumpers ... Great of you to get knitting!
ReplyDeleteJackie 22
I'm certainly enjoying knitting once more but not sure I'll be carrying it on. I'd much rather draw but at least I can do knitting in the evenings or if there's not enough light.
DeleteThanks for stopping by Jackie...have a great weekend!
Not too late at all, Neesie. The reality is that nearly all of the jumpers knitted will end up on soft, plush penguin toys that are then sold to support the Phillip Island Penguin Foundation. See this link to see the toys dressed up - http://tinyurl.com/7srvevs
ReplyDeleteThe little penguin jumpers have caused quite a controversy as animal advocate groups say that putting them on penguins will actually cause a lot of stress so they are pleading with people NOT to knit them. However, the reality is that the jumpers are handy for oil spill victims as they prevent the penguin from ingesting toxic oil while trying to preen themselves clean. Here's another useful link that explains fact over fiction - http://tinyurl.com/k9h68bl
There's always two sides to a story isn't there Serena ;D
DeleteThanks for taking the time to leave such a great comment with all the details. I really appreciate it and will read follow the links to find out more.
Have a fantastic Friday and enjoy your weekend.
xoxo
How fun indeed, Neesie! I smiled from ear-to-ear!! Your make looks like a darling sleeveless sweater for a young girl. Can't wait to see the new studio!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteThat's great to hear Darnell...I like to think I've made people smile ;D
DeleteI thought my knitting looked like a hot water bottle cover!
I suppose it could be all manor of things by the time I finish it.
Have a wonderful weekend whatever you have planned...keep smiling and thanks for stopping by!
xoxo
Hi Neesie, love the photo of the penguins in their cosy little jumpers, though they do look very much like soft toys to me :) However, having read the article I can quite see how very essential the miniature sweaters are in the treatment of real oil covered penguins. Shame that the organisation has enough for now but it will be good for you to have one finished and in reserve should there be a future call out for more. I wonder what your next knitting project will be ... something bigger perhaps? Elizabeth x #75
ReplyDeleteThey are cute aren't they Elizabeth,
DeleteI can't bare to think of them suffering covered in oil.
I'm going to carry on and finish the jumper and who knows, it might even fit Muffy whose been clipped at the groomers and now is half her normal size.
Enjoy your weekend and have fun.
I hope to visit you soon xoxo
They are so cute. You'll have to get a garden gnome and dress it up to keep it warm in the garden :) I'm sooo looking forward to seeing your studio but also really jealous at the same time (he he). Have a great week, I'll catch up with you soon.
ReplyDeleteLuv Von #26
Now only you would think of a garden gnome Von ;D
DeleteIt's an exciting time trying to get organised but also exhausting too.
I think it'll take some time to sort but we'll get there.
I hope you got my email I sent today.
Take care and chat again soon
xoxo
Hi neesie
ReplyDeleteThat is a great publicity shot.
I agree with Serena and even knitted a some of these a couple of years ago after a big oil spill which is what they were for. Sadly now I think it is more fundraising which isn't bad but penguins are cute however aren't they :-))
Have a good week hope the paintings finished soon
Janet @52
Isn't it a great shot Janet...so cute ;D
DeleteThanks for stopping by...I hope to be able to do my own painting soon instead of watching someone else!
Have a great week too with hopefully lots of creativity too
xoxo
They must have meant you to knit some Penguin Pullovers, but just forgot to tell you, and now it's too late. Perhaps the zoo has a chilly penguin, or you could turn it into a tea cost (I seem determined that you should have a tea cosy). Or have you a tender plant that might need a little protection next winter. Otherwise it looks as though you are just going to have to adopt a penguin of your own.
ReplyDeleteNow there's a thought Jez, adopt a penquin of my own...hmmm.... ;D
DeleteBut I've heard since that they are going to put the pullies onto stuffed toy penguins to help raise funds so my knitting may not be in vain.
There's also another option that has arisen since yesterday. McMuffy went to the groomers and came back scalped so the teeny weeny jumper might actually fit her now...well if I get a move on to finish it before her hair grows again ^..^
I hope your day is going well....I hope to have some time to visit once I've caught up with all of my comment replies! phew...it's a tough assignment but one I love so see you soon.
xoxo
Hi Neesie,
ReplyDeleteI saw this story on the World News just this week! Bless the little penguins and the knitters who responded. Maybe you could make a heat bottle cover? Or you can rip it out - I've done that plenty of times!
Thanks for stopping by already.
Happy belated WOYWW
peace, Kay (23)
Hi Kay,
DeleteWell I'm probably going to really confuse people today with replying to this post. I realise that it's Wednesday once again but I'm a week behind!
I do have a very cute little hot water bottle that has a red cover with a little heart on it that my son bought me. (He knows I like to keep warm so it's perfect to just cuddle when necessary).
My knitting did remind me of that bottle so maybe it could replace the original cover when necessary...if it's over cuddled!
I must confess I do like the penguin idea though. So cute.
I hope you're having a productive time creating lots and I wish you well for this weeks WOYWW.
I won't be participating (surprise surprise) as I've been away for a few days but who knows I might be okay for next week.
xoxo
How cute are these Penguins really the jumpers are a brilliant idea. Without waiting it, why don't you try a zoo or a birdlife sanctuary, penguins get sick in these places too. Thanks for sharing your wonderful knitting with us. Goodluck with the room.
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW
Eliza & Yoda 21
What a great idea Eliza,
DeleteI hadn't thought of that ;D
The room is being painted as I speak so hopefully things can move in over the weekend.
Apologies for being a week late in my reply but I've been away for a few days.
Say hello to Melbourne for me and of course Yoda ^..^
Happy WOYWW to you too
I read about the penguin sweaters and the response they got from people wanting help protect the little guys. Evidently they eat the oil and the sweaters keep them from doing it. I have an idea of what you can do with your knitting. The hospital here requested some caps/hats made for the newborns and are always appreciative of any caps brought in to them. The babes lose so much heat from their head when first born they use the caps to regulate their temperatures. I am so looking forward to seeing your new room. Bet you are done before me! Thanks for visiting my desk and leaving such a nice comment. Vickie #72
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable, Neesie - especially the one like a Penguin book lol!! I have just visited the Guardian site and read all about it. They remind me of our little kitty Beatrice in her frilly dress to cover her operation wound!
ReplyDeleteI didn't make it onto WOYWW this week - too busy and too tired, but I've posted something today instead - some more teabag art.
Shoshi
super cute and so generous
ReplyDeleteOkay--I read Serena's comment and now it makes sense why a penguin might temporarily need a sweater...jumper, I mean. ;) They do look so cute! Sadly, there will probably be more oil spills so you could finish it and be ready.
ReplyDeleteWe'll, whichever of the politically correct sides you take, I am just full of admiration that you can knit, follow a pattern and that you made time to swing into action to help, how typical of you.
ReplyDeleteHi Nessie I decided to have a late week snoop around some WOYWW blogs because I missed heaps this last week and have some time now. .. wow with a quick glance I was nearly in fits when I saw the penguins, had to look real hard to realize they weren't real but then read your blog...what a super idea, they sure took cute, love the orange one..surely there is some other animal that will fit your jumper...ask at a vet clinic. Cheers RobynO#24
ReplyDeleteI just could not fathom why penguins needed knit jumpers except to look cute and fashionable. Now I've read and discovered why and it is good that there is a solution to the problem. I agree that there will be more oil spills so you could finish them up and hold onto them for next time. It's a very nice offering!
