I can't believe that today I've actually managed to complete a piece of artwork. YAY!
After a great week weather wise with lots of fantastic sunshine, today turned out to be rather grey and that freezing north wind blew.
So much so that it really wasn't a good day to be outside voluntarily...so I stayed indoors.
After flinging myself around for most of the morning, ticking chores and messages off my never ending list, I decided to get tough with myself and finally sat down at the kitchen table to finish the kingfisher picture I started a few weeks back.
Here's a reminder...
I tried desperately to be loose with it and not stress too much and for most parts it worked but old habits die hard.
There's a few things that I'm not happy about...but I'll not mention them because maybe... just maybe you won't notice them.
My main aim was to just get something into my journal.
And guess what?
I've now got an idea for what I'd like to do for tomorrow...whoohoo...so it looks like I may have kick started my mojo into action at last.
I'm so happy that I feel like partying...so I'm linking up with Paint Party Friday and the Artist's Play Room.
Why don't you take a look and have fun too - just click on the blue writing above to be transported to the party.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone
Oh Neesie, am happy for you, you followed your creativity! Lovely rendition! It looks like you did part of the background with watercolor? What I do to keep the paper from buckling is to tape the paper with blue tape (the kind you use to protect the glass of windows when you paint the frame). You may want to experiment wit watercolor pencils, and your style would also be great for soft pastel sticks (let me know, if you have any questions). Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I was annoyed at the paper buckling but I really didn't expect to spend so much time and to actually finish the painting in one go without interruption.
DeleteI really must allow for more time to prepare and execute fully...it's a lesson I never seem to learn.
Thanks so much for your helpful tips...I really appreciate it.
Happy weekend to you too ;D
I LOVE your kingfisher page. It really is hard to get into the groove of creating when you have other things going on, so I'm glad you managed it again. Blessings, my friend!
ReplyDeleteAww bless you Arnoldo,
DeleteIt sounds like you understand just what I'm up against here...but hopefully it'll start to calm down soon and I can concentrate on the artwork ;D
It was a little rushed but at least I got there in the end.
Blessings to you too
Very nice! A great drawing of a kingfisher.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comment Judith,
DeleteI'm hoping I see one a real kingfisher soon but in the meantime I'll have to be content with this one ;D
Have a great weekend
Love the deepened colors and the tip of the beak. ;) How sweet of you to have his dinner swimming by...
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about putting a fish in his mouth but then I thought that might not be appropriate for some, so put him nearby instead ;D
DeleteSome of the colours are not really true but I only had 24 pencils to work with...hehe
Have a fantastic Friday and a wonderful weekend Nan
xoxo
I'm happy for you about finished drawing and I like it.
ReplyDeleteBy the way: when I was still painting (before 1.5 decades), I have always noticed that the faster I finished the picture, the better it was and I was satisfied with it -
I would like to attend the party.
Have a quiet and blessed weekend
I'm happy that I found the time from somewhere too Mascha,
DeleteI think you could have something there...if I paint with limited time it might actually make my work more fluid ;D
I hope you do attend the party (just click on the links to see lots of other artists work) It's great fun and so inspiring.
Enjoy your weekend too.
xoxo
Denise if I could do half as well as you have done, I would be doing it all the time. You are a wonderful artist! Please, please, please do more!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSandy xx
Sandy...you make my heart sing! Thank you for such a lovely comment and encouragement ;D
DeleteI'll certainly try to do more....promise hehe

ReplyDeleteThanks Dion but its no way near your league.
DeleteI'll just keep being inspired by artists like yourself and others in PPF and APR.
Have a great weekend whatever you have planned...I hope its full of fun and creativity ;D

Very pretty bird! Lots of wonderful details in the wings. :)
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly I was pleased with the outcome considering how much time I spent on it.

DeleteHappy PPF to you too...enjoy your weekend :D
Very nice bird drawing.
ReplyDeleteI've wanted to draw a kingfisher for some time Fran...I'm not sure why?
DeleteI suppose it could be the colours
Thanks for stopping by...have a great weekend ;D

ReplyDeleteHugs Giggles

I am so happy to see you painting again finally... And this is a wonderful work to open with ... Great colours and lines... You still have it my dear... Hope the weekend is filled with paint and chat soon.... I am way behind on emails but you have been in my thoughts...xx
ReplyDeleteOh so I am Tracey...so please ;D
DeleteI've also got a little idea churning away in the dark recesses of my mind for my next project which makes me feel all cosy and warm inside.
I thought I'd left my mojo back in Melbourne but it's been here all along...just hiding amongst all the boxes that's all.
No paint so far this weekend...just cooking but I'm on it for next week.
Don't worry about replying to my email because I know what you're up against...cos your so pop...lar sweetie!
I've been thinking of you too so maybe telepathy is the way forward for now.
Enjoy your weekend xoxo
Beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteSaskia :)
Thank you for your kind comment Sakia,
DeleteHave a wonderful weekend ;D
Oh, I like him! And you did a great job with the background of water and even a fish for him to catch. Very nice! Have a wonderful weekend! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteAww thanks Diane,
DeleteIt's great to receive such positive feedback especially when you're not sure ;D
I hope you have a wonderful weekend too ~ enjoy!
Your kingfisher drawing looks beautiful. Wonderful details and the background looks lovely as well!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Abigail,
DeleteI've wanted to paint a kingfisher for quite some time. It was so good to finally get to him.
Have a great weekend and thanks for popping by.
I love the kingfisher! He's very handsome.
ReplyDeleteHehe thanks for your visit and lovely comment Linda,
DeleteEnjoy your weekend whatever you have on your plan ;D
Turned out quite nicely, if you ask me. And now I'm wondering what he inspired you to do?
ReplyDeleteThat wrist brace looks way too familiar to me. I hope you didn't keep it off too long, though. ;)
Hehe thanks Rita,
DeleteI was just pleased to finish him finally ;D
Now if I tell you what's next then I'd have to kill you...so you'd best wait to see but don't get too h'eggscited because you may be disappointed!
Oops will there be a problem if I leave the brace off too long because I find I keep taking it off...the plastic or foam or whatever it is made out of irritates my skin.
The plaster cast had to come off after one week because it irritated my delicate skin too.
I hope you're enjoying a wonderful weekend and Karma is enjoying some sunshine ^..^
xoxo
yea, return of the Paint mojo!! And what a DéâR kingfisher!
ReplyDeleteYAY indeed Dia,
DeleteYou have no idea how long I've wanted to draw/paint something....anything! ;D
Hopefully things will settle down here and I'll be able to do lots more.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I appreciate it.
Enjoy your weekend
It will be good for you to get back into creative mode after all the building work! (And don't forget to get that garden into shape...)
ReplyDeleteIs the Kingfisher picture "from real life"? I mean, do you see Kingfishers around your property? They are beautiful birds, but very elusive.
Ahhh...I know...the garden is not only trying to catch my attention...it's shouting me now. I've got lots to do, so don't know how I'm going to fit all of it in but there's nothing new there. I'm checking my newly planted tatties everyday, but so far there's no sign. But then we've only had 6 degrees here today, whilst you've been basking in the heat, so it's not surprising. I think you should share nicely don't you? ;D
DeleteI've wanted to draw/paint a kingfisher for so long. In fact, I thought I'd see them when living in Melbourne, because we lived right next to a creek that leads into the Yarra river. I kept my eyes peeled but never saw one.
The same goes for here too...so far no sign, only pheasants but I like them so that's fine.
I was thinking that a silk painting of a kingfisher would be perfect because silk paints are so vibrant...just like the kingfisher.
I'll be posting about my ventures into cuttings, planting, new beds and veggies soon I hope.
Have a great weekend and spare a thought for us chilling (literally) up here.
What a beautiful Kingfisher, Seems like you've had a great day.
ReplyDeleteI did have a wonderful day Laila and it only took under an hour of painting to make it perfect.
DeleteThanks for your visit and lovely comment.
I hope you're having a wonderful weekend too ;D
Lovely kingfisher! Very recognizable and great detail!
ReplyDeleteThank you Cindy,
DeleteI enjoyed drawing and painting him. Now I need to think about the next subject ;D
Have a great week.
They do come in lots of different colors, if I remember correctly! :)

ReplyDeleteLovely Kingfisher Neesie. Adore the colours and design of this page.
Have fun with your next art piece.
Annabelle : )
Ahh yes my next art piece...if only I could think of one Annabelle,
DeleteI did have an idea earlier, but I'm not so sure now. Maybe I should just get the paints out and see what happens ;D
Thanks for stopping by my place.
I hope you're having a great week.
Hello Nessie, I am so glad you stuck to it and finished this lovely painting. He looks so earnest. I think the spots in the background add just the right touch.
ReplyDelete~~irene #54
I wasn't sure about the flicks of paint Irene...in fact I always seem to have a problem knowing when to stop! ;D
DeleteThanks for visiting and I apologies that it's taken me so long to reply.
Have a great week with hopefully lots of creativity.
So glad that you got your Mojo back!! Your bird is beautiful! You have to remember is always comes back!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy it did come back Heather, but I'm worried that it won't stay ;D
DeleteI'm just trying to think about my next art project but its proving a little tricky.
There's too much going on here to even hear myself think which isn't the best conditions to try to be creative. Maybe I should draw all the tools that are lying around the place? :/
Anyway apologies for taking so long to reply to your lovely comment. I really appreciate it and hope your week is both creative and productive.
