Well would you believe it...it's Friday once more!
Time to party with the Paint Party Friday gang or PPF for short.
I've been reading a few tutorials over the past week and have realised that I tend not to use as much water as I possibly should, with my watercolour artwork.
So thanks to a Skillshare tutorial by Yasmina Creates, I decided to have a little playtime.
I added a few circles of water first, then the watercolour paints and watched them flow and mix together.
I am quite attached to the first one little bird (top left) but for some reason each time I tried another wee tweetlet, I wasn't so impressed.
I obviously need to perfect this.
After reading lots more creative articles and supply lists (which are as everyone knows crucial and a must), I now feel slightly daunted that I have so much to learn and buy.
We have had no sun once again today, so it's difficult to take photographs.
For those who saw the beginning of the Highland cow painting...here he is finished (I think?)
I've added a few gold highlights to his flowing locks since I took this photo and I think that 'he' might now be a 'her'!
Only a quick post today, but if you'd like to see more artwork, then why not pop across to the PPF link by clicking here.
Thanks Eva and Kristin for hosting PPF once more.
Have a brilliant weekend everyone and thanks for stopping by my place.
I'm always thrilled to see you.
Love the golden addition to his/her hair! And the birdies are just delightful as can be.
ReplyDeleteAww thank you so much Faye, it was great to have a little playtime ;D
DeleteOh so adorable! These chubby little chicks are so cute! :)
ReplyDeleteAhh you've given me an idea...I need to try out some more colour combos! Thanks :D
DeleteOh I love your little birds! So sweet.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laney, it was a complete new technique for me and I wasn't disappointed with the results even though I need to practice more :D
DeleteLove the highland cow and those cute and cuddly birds, so pretty! Hug, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThanks Valerie,
DeleteThe tweetlets do look fluffed up don't they? I kind of like them, but I think I'll experiment with the colours a little more :D
Going with the flow is the amazing, beautiful part of watercolour painting.
ReplyDeleteI love your cow, such personality!
I realise that now Renee, I just need to practice and let go a little more. Thanks and I hope you are having a wonderful weekend :D
DeleteLovely watercolour birds and the Highland cow looks beautiful all finished!
ReplyDeleteHehe thanks Christine, I wasn't sure the highland cow was finished, but as soon as I added the gold highlights I knew he was done :D
DeleteI had fun with the tweetlets!
what sweet little birdies. Amazing what internet has allowed us to view and learn. Your cow is wonderful-I'd love to see one of those in person! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteI must admit seeing the Highland cow out in nearby fields is fantastic. They are such characters and so hardy (but that's mainly because they have to be in our winter climate)
DeleteI had fun playing with the birdies and will experiment a little more.
I have to agree ... hair over the eye and that little bit of a smerk. It has to be a she :) I love all of your little birds and I admire your indulgence in learning more about your art. I don't have an excuse for not doing so, but I just never seem to find time ... guess that is a prority issue :) Lovely post, Denise ...

It's always fun to expand techniques! Good luck!
ReplyDeletegetting paint to bloom and flow like tracey does is a skill, lol. Your birdies are adorable and a great idea to practice learning how paint moves in water. It also does make a difference in paint, transparency and consistency which is also a lot to learn. Some paints (don't ask me which ones, lol, I haven't learned that much yet) move better in water than others and blend or separate better. If you're looking to upgrade your paint (you mentioned supplies) I'd recommend trying the new Schmincke exclusive palette from WetPaintArt.com then adding some more Daniel Smith colors to complete the palette. DS has some cool colors that tend to split and wash out well, like look up Moonglow and serpentine are two I own because they do a cool color separation sometimes which is so cool. Just keep being curious and making little birds to learn on, I keep trying to learn how Trace does that blooming-exploding paint thing, damn, hard to learn!
ReplyDeleteNaw...just adorable....great work...xx
ReplyDeleteHello Neesie - each one of your birdies are lovely... quite their own personalities I feel. Thanks for the link to Yasmina, I always love to learn something new (oh how I wish I could remember it all lol!!).
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing your highland cow... I love the touch of the scotch thistle. I remember when I first visited your blog, the thistle was what you were drawing and I so admired your skills.
Cheers and have a truly great weekend and Happy PPF :D)
Oh I love the chubby birdies! Mr. Or Mz. cow is fantastic. I'm not on instagram so I haven't seen the gold highlights but I bet it added a lot to the cow. Isn't it fun to learn new techniques?! I have three acrylic painters, whose videos I follow. I'm anxious to get back to painting. I've been doing a major clean out of my studio/craft room. Looking forward to painting in a clean & organized space. Have a wonderful weekend. Hope you get some nice weather. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI think the highland cow might be a her, too. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe birdies are cute as can be. I love playing with watercolors, watching them move and blend--but not very good at making anything from my play except backgrounds--LOL! But it is such fun! :)
I have a title for your cow painting - "Here's Winking at You!"
ReplyDeleteLove your chubby little babies - what a fabulous job you did on them!
sandy xx
What sweet little chickies.
ReplyDeletecute little birds :)
ReplyDeleteI tend to use too much water with water colour and it takes forever to draw :p
This is so cute! Love the birds!
ReplyDeleteI love the personality with which you endow the animals in your drawings. They make me smile. :D
ReplyDeleteI also love mixing and watching watercolors blend. As for the birdies, the shape of the head seems to make all the difference and the top left one is spot on cute!
ReplyDeleteThe birds are cute, but OMGosh the Highland Cow wins the prize this week. Love him/her, LOL. Blessings, Janet (PS: yeah, I don't get that 'no' sun stuff.)
