After this morning's early wake up call, in the form of a thunderstorm, (my Instagram story) I thought I'd share a little warmth and transport us back to the Hot House in the Botantical Gardens.
I visited the gardens last weekend with my daughter.
I visited the gardens last weekend with my daughter.
The David Welch Winter Gardens at Duthie Park, here in Aberdeen, is one of Europe's largest indoor gardens and Scotland's third most visited, which seemed perfect as Saturday dawned with yet again rain forecast!
My daughter thought that the Winter Gardens would provide inspiration for an assignment that she's currently working on. She captured my image for My Sunday Photo from these gardens and as the photo shows... I was definitely in the zone!
If I had to choose a plant my least favourite would perhaps be a cactus.
I can't say why exactly, but after our visit to these gardens I think I'll have to rethink my choice, because there were some amazing specimens.

Huge leafy brilliant plants... which I now want to paint.
The hot house has one of the largest collections of Cacti and Succulents in Britain
Beautiful shapes and so many variations of the colour green.
As you can probably guess, I have quite a few photos from our trip... far too many blooms and plants to include here in one blog post, so I'll perhaps post more another day.
Keeping on the cacti theme...here's just a few more photos of the cacti.
Well it's still raining outside and the light is beginning to fade, so I think it's time to call it a day.
Thanks for visiting and I hope to see you again soon.
Beautiful pics of some of my fave plants, Nessie. Of course having lived 20 yrs in the high desert plains of the western US one sees these growing wild. I'd send you sunshine but we haven't had much of it either. Hot temps and lots of rain. And 'skeeters (mosquitoes). Would like me to send them? :) We have more than enough to share. ;) ;) Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs from FL
ReplyDeleteNow if the sun's not with you Nan...I'd like to know where it is? We haven't seen it for days. We've had mostly thick fog, mist and drizzly rain! I'd not appreciated succulents until I'm now trying to paint them that I realise just how intricate and involved they are.
DeleteI love the term 'skeeters although not the wee beasts themselves. Thankfully living on the East coast we don't have the enormous problem that the West coast has. Please don't send them to us...I certainly don't want them...the sun is a far better idea.
Have a great weekend...I'm so slow in my replies that we've now half way through the week!
I love cacti so was in heaven when we were last there :) lovely photos :)
ReplyDeleteI was pleasantly surprised Jennifer. I had no idea there were so many succulents and the hot house was quite a size. I could have done with it being a little warmer...but the cacti seemed to like it. They had all the windows open and it was pouring with rain outside, so not very warm outside either.
DeleteLove your photos Neesie! I must admit I got to appreciate Succulents more when we were living in a drought in Melbourne. I do like their structure. Cacti have beauty too, we can see that from your pics!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend

Now that I'm looking at them in detail through my photo lens and about to print them...I am becoming a convert. They are all so different.
DeleteI thought there wouldn't be enough colour to paint them, but it's amazing just how varied they are. Much to work on.
I hope your week is going well and the British summertime hasn't given you webbed feet...or is that just me?
Wonderful photos. Not sure about succulents myself but have now turned to them for the pots on our courtyard....I don't have to worry about the heat and watering. Fascinated by the tall cacti (in the frame of three) It looks like a llama/alpaca!! x
ReplyDeleteThanks and that's exactly what I thought about that photo Pam, it definitely had a face and each one so funny. I think in your climate they would be perfect but unfortunately I'd have to keep mine to the bathroom if I had any.
