We have been members of the National Trust of Scotland since we arrived back from our overseas travels, and I must say that every time we have visited a historical property, garden or castle, we have always had a fantastic day.
One of our latest visits was to Haddo House gardens and grounds, which enabled us to get a close look at this cute red squirrel and his antics at the feeding station.
There have hides set up in order for visitors to watch them feed.
Another day was spent at Fyvie Castle and as we were leaving after a brilliant day, we saw these swans with their eight cygnets on the lake.
A perfect sighting to finish off the day.
(If you'd like to see some photographs from a previous trip to Fyvie, then click here)
Whilst admiring the swans, I suddenly became aware of this mallard duck preening himself just at the waters edge...right next to me.
He was oblivious to me taking photos... possibly getting ready to meet Mrs Mallard?
I'm linking up with My Sunday Photo as usual.
Thanks Darren for hosting once again.
Please feel free to pop across to see lots more photographs by clicking here
Thanks for popping by and I hope to see you again soon.
Enjoy your Sunday
What a beautiful selection of photos. I love the red squirrel and the swans with their cygnets :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Louise, we enjoyed watching them so much.
DeleteA lovely set of shots - I particularly like the one of the squirrel
ReplyDeleteThanks Tim, I think he's so cute. He appeared on my Instagram feed, but I couldn't resist adding him here too.
DeleteThat squirrel photo is amazing! Haha
ReplyDeleteI was really pleased to be able to capture him Sarah, I have a few blurred photo's a he scurried around the feeding station and quite a few of his rear as he scurried away!
DeleteI thought that red squirrel was a statue, you capture him so well. One of the highlights of visiting Scotland as a child was seeing red squirrels in my Aunt and Uncles's forest
ReplyDeleteI know that the red squirrels are in our woods and my son has actually seen them there, but I never have...hopefully they won't come to our garden and pinch all the goodies in our bird feeders. I'd much prefer to go and see them. They are so cute.
DeleteI was pleased with this shot...and as you can imagine I have many more of them!
I didn't think the squirrel was real at first, lol.
ReplyDeleteA few have thought that he wasn't real already this morning, but although I like a joke I couldn't do that. Nope he's real and very much alive...looking at all the blurred action shots that I missed him. I've got quite a few of his backside!
DeleteI'm mereley impressed that you saw a red squirrel! they are so rare! I'd love to hit some of the NT properties north of the border. We're up there for a spell during the summer so we may give it a go. #MySundayPhoto
ReplyDeleteWe are very lucky up here John, the red squirrel population seems to be increasing. This particular NTS property has a feeding station within their woods, which is set up with a hide, in order to view the squirrels without disturbing them. It really is fantastic.
DeleteIf you visit the NTS properties up here, then you are in for a treat! I'm sure you would love the castles... they are so packed with history and treasures.
I just hope the weather behaves whilst you're up here!
We've got our first ever NT membership this year and have lots of plans for the summer, I can't wait! I love your photos, especially the squirrel what a brilliant capture!

Oh Anne, I'm sure you will not be disappointed with your membership, if there are properties similar to up here. We've had some brilliant days out soaking up beautiful, historical properties and gardens.
DeleteGood luck with your adventures.
Love the squirrel photo, caught in the act
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up
He certainly was caught in the act Darren...in fact he put on quite a show for us, especially when he went across the hire wire to reach a feeder in the centre of the rope swing! Great fun!
DeleteWow !! That squirrel photo is so sweet !!!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend !
Thanks Ela, I was very pleased and knew when I clicked the shutter that it was going to be a fun caption.
DeleteHappy weekend to you too.
Great pics of a beautiful day! I had to enlarge the little squirrel pic....oh my gosh! He's in the feedbox behind a clear panel poking his head out the roof!!! :) :) :) How on earth...? Squirrels they are clowns. Hugs from FL
ReplyDeleteWhy are baby animals so dang cute! That red squirrel looks like he is in there with bird eggs. Wonderful pictures Denise. I sure am glad you like taking them cause I sure like seeing them!
ReplyDeleteSandy xx
They are so cute just to get us from 'hello' Sandy,
DeleteThe feeding station was a great idea with lots of alternative food and feeders. It really was quite entertaining watching them...but also good to know that they were wild and free to come and go as they pleased.
I'm so happy that you enjoy seeing my photo's because it just wouldn't work if I was here all alone. When I take a photo I'm invariably thinking about my follow bloggers!
Great pics I love that squirrel one. We don't see any reds down here.
ReplyDeleteIt appears that the red squirrel photo is the winner in this post Emma. Everyone seems to be taken with him, but I must admit it was rather special and entertaining watching him.
DeleteLove the cygnets, they're so cute despite the ugly duckling reputation they have. And hope Mrs Mallard was imorsssed :)
ReplyDelete(Hehe) Yes Tas, I think Mrs M was impressed or should be, because he certainly took quite some time to get sorted.
DeleteAs for the cygnets...well they are beyond cute with their fluffiness!
love when we glimpse the red squirrels around here, its a good sign they are recovering :)
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled that the 'reds' are making a come back Jennifer. I just don't want them coming on my personal bird feeders in our garden...even though they are cute and fun to watch. I go through enough food as it is!
DeleteHa! Loved this squirrel when I saw it on Instagram on my phone, it looks even better on my computer - that's a competition winning photo there dear Neesie if ever I saw one! The world will go nuts over this Haha!
ReplyDeleteWren x
Haha... I was really thrilled with him Wren. I took so many photos whilst we watched his antics. Great fun!
DeleteThank you for your enthusiastic praise. It means a lot to me :D
What lovely photos! The cygnets are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThey were just little fluff balls Lisa, very cute. It's a pity that I took so long to get set up to capture their image as they were nearer the bank when I first saw them.
DeleteWonderful collection of photos. I love visiting National Trust properties too :)
ReplyDeleteI feel so privileged that we have so many amazing properties throughout the country Lisa, that are jam packed full of brilliant historical treasures or beautiful gardens and grounds.
DeleteI think the membership is well worth it, to help keep these places from falling into ruins :D
Lovely. Great pictures this week! See you on tomorrows. #mysundayphoto
