My Sunday Photo...Hen Night

Our girls have everything they could possibly need...(and more) and they are certainly happy chooks, but I still wouldn't want to be one.
This week we've had Mr Fox come snooping around the garden...in daylight!!!
So hubby has had to add a few armaments to their accommodation.
The old ruined barn that houses their coup now has barbed wire above the high walls.
It also has a cobbled floor so no fox could possibly dig under to get in.
The barn is not quite the 'Folly' as we used to call it... it's now more 'Fort Knox'!
(Annie does not look happy at someone switching the light on does she?)

The girls move out of the folly into the garden during the day.
They have a large secure pen that we move around under the trees, so no worries there about Mr Fox paying a visit.
We also set up the night vision camera last night, to see if the fox returned under the cover of darkness...but all was clear. Phew!
I've just been out now to check that the girls are okay...and here's the photograph.
They'd all put themselves to bed and I just couldn't resist snapping them all sitting on one perch.
They actually have three to choose from, but obviously they like to snuggle up at night.
How they sleep balanced up there is beyond me.
I have trouble in a 6ft x 6.6ft bed!
Thanks for stopping by my place.
I'm linking up with My Sunday Photo as usual.
Thanks Darren for hosting once again.

    1. Hopefully they are safe Louise...only time will tell, but I'm hoping all the wild rabbits nearby will be enough :/

    1. Oh I do hope so Fiona. I would hate anything to happen to them. I knew we shouldn't have named them

  3. Looks a bit like our bed on those nights (which is to say most nights) when one or more of our kids decide to squeeze in to our bed.

    1. "5 in a bed and the little one said Roll over, Roll over" comes to mind...I've got that song in my head now I'll probably be humming it all day!

  4. Lovely to see your hens Neesie and glad to hear that Mr Fox has been outwitted.
We laugh at our hens, as we're in a cold winter here at the moment, they too like to sit close but take ages to settle, there's shuffling going on for quite a while because a middle position is preferred to one on the end!
Cheers now and thanks for the lovely post... happy days :D)

    1. Well I'm hoping that we've outwitted Mr Fox, but I'm very nervous that he might be conjuring up a plan. I'm pretty confident that we have covered all possibilities, but only time will tell.
I'm also wondering how the girls will cope with a Scottish winter! I think I can see a heat lamp being purchased at some time in the future. Having said that...our summer isn't exactly a hot one. I think the highest temperature we've had this summer has been 19 degrees. London on the other hand have reached 30 degrees. I always think that we should share the temperatures... that way we would get warmer temps and down south would be slightly cooler. Sounds reasonable to me!
I'm glad that you enjoyed visiting and reading my post. Happy days to you too :D

    1. Oh no Jeanna, I hope not. I'm hoping that the abundance of wild rabbits in the adjoining field will suffice him and his family without his need to take any of our girls. I keep checking out of the window every few minutes as it is!

  6. Hi Neesie, hopefully 'Fort Know' does the trick and Mr. Fox gives up and becomes a vegetarian! I have often wondered how birds manage to sleep balanced like they do. Nature is pretty amazing!

    1. Now there's a thought...a vegetarian fox ^..^
I totally agree with you nature is mind blowing at times. I love it!
Our girls have put weight on since they came to stay (no surprise there) so it must be quite a talent to balance and organise the weight distribution!

  8. It sounds like a very safe Fort Knox for them and I hope Mr Fox doesn't come snooping round for daytime or nighttime treats!

    1. If he does he might get more than he bargained Tas. We did have a night vision camera that caught him walking through the garden well before the girls arrived, so hopefully he was just passing through once again. There's plenty of food out in the farmland fields all around us. Fingers crossed!

  9. Lovely bunch of Girls, Nessie. ;) Hopefully, Mr. Fox will be deterred and the rabbits will be easier prey. I had to get out the converter to change C to F.....I shivered at your temp and was ahh'ing at Londons. Which wasn't that bad for me. We've been in the high 90sF (upper 30s C). The Girls and I love it. In fact, they're out sunbathing on the porch now and it's 86F. Have a wonderful week. Here's hoping Mr. Fox is a no show. Hugs to all from all.
