My Sunday Photo... One Shot!

When you read the title of my Sunday Photo... 'One Shot' you might think that I'm referring to my photography, but sadly in this case I'm not.
(Please if you can spare the time, read until the end of the post)
Yesterday, I was woken by an explosive gun shot and I immediately jumped out of bed.
(This was quite a feat as it wasn't even 6am)
It is incredibly light here at the moment with the summer solstice, so we can clearly see everything throughout the whole night.
To my horror I saw two gunmen who had killed a deer.
They put on blue plastic gloves and gutted him there and then... slinging his limp dead body into the back of a truck!
They were quite a distance and my phone camera couldn't really capture this horror... which is probably for the best.
As I watched through the binoculars a tear ran down my cheek.
This beautiful gentle beast was just minding his own business and then some mindless cretin decided to end his life.
I'm sorry if I am going on here, but the day before I had taken so many photos of this buck and felt very privileged to have him visit.
To say this event spoilt my morning.
I felt sick and couldn't contemplate eating breakfast.
I can understand the need for culling where necessary, but there is absolutely no need here at the moment. The most deer I've ever seen together were four and that was only once.
As the truck drove away I snapped their photo, but once again it's blurred.
It was later in the morning that my son came to me whispering... "he's back"
I couldn't believe it... they hadn't killed this stag, but another deer.
I'm still terribly sad for the loss, but thankful that this stunning buck escaped the gunmen (this time!)
At least it allowed me to celebrate my 39th Wedding Anniversary with a meal later in the day.
Thankfully venison wasn't on the menu!

I'm linking up with Photalife with My Sunday Photo as usual.

  1. oh no sorry to hear about the hunters :( Such beautiful animals it is such a shame people shot them. Glad this one stayed safe this time and I hope the gun men stay away for a while!

    1. I hope so too! But I have some really good news... not only did the buck escape, but we have seen two Doe's with their fawn's these last few days. Two new babies... what a joy :D

  2. Such a beautiful creature.

What a horrible sight to witness, it would have put me in a right mood for the rest of the day.

Have a good Sunday and thank you for linking up to #MySundayPhoto

    1. It upset me for a few days to be honest Darren, but there's good news. I have new photo's of two separate Doe's that have fawn's... so our buck has been very busy! I'll post the photo's as soon as I can. A happy ending to the story.
      Thanks for hosting :D

    1. It was terrible, but thankfully a little way off so it wasn't too graphic... although it was bad enough even from that distance. Good end to the story though. The Buck has been busy because we've seen two Doe with new fawns!

  4. Do they allow hunting all year round there? We only have certain times of year they can hunt here. That would make me so sad, too. But--Happy Anniversary. At least you have something nice to celebrate. :)

    1. I did make me very sad Rita and affected me for day. I was talking to our local farmer checking if he knew who it was and he told me it's illegal at this time of year... so they were poachers!
I'm ready with my camera to capture them if they return and to get their truck registration! Good news is that there's a happy ending to the story. Our Buck has been busy with the ladies... because we've seen two Doe's during the last few days and they have new born fawn's! How brilliant is that?
      Have a great Sunday :D

    1. Sorry Fern, but I'm happy to report that there's a happy ending (well not for that particular deer that was shot) but we've seen two females with their young babies! I've managed to take photo's so will share them as soon as I take them from my camera.
Have a great weekend in all this glorious summer weather :D

  7. I can definitely see why witnessing such an event would have an impact on your day, and wanting to share (&rant) here a little too to be honest.

    1. Thanks Jade, but there's an even better end to the story that I was going to post about this week. We've seen two females with young fawn... so our Buck has been very busy!
I'll post the photo's as soon as I edit them :D

    1. Thanks Helena, I've got more close up shots of a brilliant happy ending to the tale. We have two new mum's living nearby and watching the fawn's play about is pure magic.
      Have a great Sunday :D
