What's On Your Work Desk Wednesday WOYWW and so much more

I think I need to write a post daily at the moment because so much is happening.
It's not a question of having to tell you all that's happening in my life, because you'd be shocked (ha)
I thought I'd throw that one in just to wet your appetite and let your imaginations run wild!

For today, I'll just show you one of the things that's keeping me busy at the moment.
I'm taking part in Tracey Fletcher King's online art classes where we are painting food!
I mean what a fabulous way to get your allocated five a day, plus learning new techniques, meeting lots of friendly talented artists... all keen to have fun and as Tracey say's... "just have a go!"
She's a brilliant teacher, giving so much of her time, energy and amazing talent, whilst keeping everything so relaxed. If you read Tracey's blog (click here if you haven't) then you'll know she is quite a character and so funny.
Totally unique in a very special way.

So, let me show you what's on my desk this Wednesday.
Because I'm linking up with Julia over at Stamping Ground and WOYWW
(which stands for what's on your work desk Wednesday for anyone not familiar with this acronym) I'm going to keep this brief. (or at least I'll try)
There's lots of see over there and desks to visit from all over the globe, so it's good to keep it brief. Click here if you'd like to be transported into a crafty/arty world.
So here's my desk...
I have Tracey's video's playing as I paint to keep me loose and not get too caught up in the detail, as is my want. I find listening to the video works as a great reminder that this is to be fun.
All very relaxed!
Most of what I'm showing you is work in progress... there's little tweaks to be added here and there. Shadows and defining lines and hopefully I won't that one step too far.
I like some of my subject and hate other's.
I'm not going to go into detail which is which because everyone will see these differently.
You might like one that I don't... anyway... let's carry on.
If you can imagine that I had all of the fruit and veg sitting on my desk, which was fine to begin with... but I tend to nip into the studio and dabble, then go onto other things leaving the paint to dry or to revisit at another time.
It wasn't until painting this avocado, that I became aware that virtually every time I looked at it the flesh was a different colour. Yuk!
Everything was going off in the sun coming through the window.
Note to self and is one of Tracey's tips... paint quickly!!!
I decided to paint the half of a tomato (which was already on it's way to foosty
(a scottish word for slightly off or certainly well on it's way) because it was so interesting but had to quickly abandon it when there was a serious health risk looming.
I think I actually ruined the capsicum with going over and taking that step too far that I unfortunately often do.
Here's the before photo ... I like it at this stage.
Oops I wasn't going to do that.
I've got to master shadows next  (ha... I should be so lucky)
This might be another step too far.
 So that'll do for today...
Here's the links to the websites and I hope you'll have fun this Wednesday with whatever you have planned.
Thanks for your visit and hopefully I'm going to try to catch up with all of my comment replies from the last few posts, in the next few days.
See you soon

    1. Thanks Jan, I'm painting completely differently at the moment... trying to be loose rather than focusing on detail.
I'm taking part in Tracey Fletcher King's class called Delicious Paint's and having a great time.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great creative week ahead.

You are right Sue, I'm having a fantastic time learning new techniques and tips.
      I'm definitely painting differently.
I hope you have a lovely week too and thanks for visiting my place.

    1. That's very kind of you Sandy,
I'm learning something new every time I pick up a paint brush. It's quite a journey, but I'm loving it.
Have a great week and that's for your lovely comment

  4. Well I'm a huge fan of all things 'Arty Denise' so I'm delighted to see lots of your lovely paintwork from Tracey's workshop right here. The colours are just incredible. I'm not very good at mixing the right colours or mixing enough in the first place so I find the quite frustrating, lol.
Right, I'm off to cook tea, your paintings have made me hungry {{Hugs}} xoxo

    1. Aww you are so kind Mo,
I'm pleased with the results because I'm painting totally different than I normally would, but I'm slightly unsure about showing some of my work. I like to see other artist's, so I just take a deep breath and put it out there.
I think sharing the journey is a good thing because you can always learn something new from seeing other people's trials and tribulations.
I'm hoping to get to the grocer and paint more tomorrow. I hear it's going to be rainy so I'll have fun in the studio.
Thanks for your lovely comment and I hope you'll visit again soon.

    1. Hehe thanks,
I have to confess Helen, the banana was too ripe for me too. I love my bananas kept in the fridge, but the skin turning black can put a few people off.
(but that way there's more for me... but don't tell anyone)
Thanks for your visit and comment. Apologies for my late reply but I'm playing catch up this week.

  6. I am a Tracy fan, her artwork is lovely and I'm unsurprised that you're taking her class.., I bet their methods are lovely and I'm delighted to hear that she reminds you that it's meant to be fun! Your art has a precision, and I understand your over working thing...I mean, it's the hardest thing to know when something is finished, I thinK!

    1. It's lovely to have Tracey chatting away with me in the studio... considering we're 12,000 miles apart, but I need constant reminders not to be too precious (I normally get bogged down in the detail) she reminds me to just have a go and have fun!
I can see the changes in my work already which is quite exciting.
Thanks for your lovely comment and taking the time to visit my place.
I've had visitors staying so I'm now playing catch up.
      Enjoy your Sunday evening

    1. Hehe, you're right there Sandy... every time I looked at the avocado it had changed colour.
It helped with my challenge of painting quickly!
Thanks for your comment and visit. I'm so late replying that I fear it will soon be Wednesday once more.

  8. Your fruit is wonderfully done, but I agree that some of it is well on its way to the compost pile. I really LOVE the avocado, though. Even once the air got to it, it is still wonderfully painted. Happy WOYWW from # 5.

    1. Thanks so much Elizabeth,
The fruit and veg were lovely when I started but over the few days of sitting on my desk in the studio (in the sun) it deteriorated rapidly. I'm happy to say it did make its way to the compost heap.
I think I like the avocado the best too. It was interesting and fun to paint.

    1. It's been fun and a great learning curve Nan,
Tracey is such a fantastic teacher plus she's so much fun it doesn't feel like a classroom. I have her video playing whilst I'm painting so it's like she's in the room. I need her there to keep me from being too precious and fiddling with the detail.
Lovely to see you here once again... I hope all's well with you and you're having a great creative time.

    1. Hehe... I had to laugh Diane because I haven't painted an onion!
I think you're referring to the fennel, but I will agree with you, it does look like an onion.
Thanks for your visit and I hope you have a great creative week ahead.

I bet her ears are burning Sandra de... hehe
Thanks for your lovely compliment about my artwork. I have to admit I love to add the black ink and find I miss it if I don't include it.
Have a great week, hopefully with lots of creativity.

  16. Oh wow, Neesie. you've done so amazingly well here. I especially love your cut tomato, do yo mind if I steal that idea? Great idea. Everythign looks so wonderful, your banana looks so darn edible.

    1. Aww thanks Jenn,
I thought the cut tomato would be interesting but having the sun increase its demise quicker than I anticipated made it more of a challenge.
You can have the banana because it's far too ripe for me. I like mine cold from the fridge. The trouble is that makes the skin go black which wouldn't have made my painting very interesting!
Have fun this coming week and I'll see you in class soon

  19. Wow you are very talented! I admire anyone who can paint as I wish I could. I tried doing free hand images with Distress Inks but I think I'm too structured for that so I have stuck to stamping and then painting. ;-) Vikki #27
