Millionaire's Shortbread Illustration...PPF

Hello there... phewph it's been a busy day, but I'm super excited because I've actually managed to finish off my week 4 assignment for #risedesignandshine ahead of time!
I know...I may have to go for a lie down now.
This weeks assignment was to illustrate a favourite recipe and I chose an old family favourite which is quite appropriate as I'm now residing in Bonnie Scotland.
It's shortbread (which is a huge favourite in Scotland) but not just ordinary shortbread...it's gorgeous Millionaire's Shortbread.
Have you baked it before?
It's incredibly easy and as it was featured on last weeks 'The Great British Bake Off' I thought it just had to be my choice for this assignment.
My hubby and son think I need to bake it following these instructions just to make sure I have it all illustrated correctly.
They're calling it research...I have another name for it!

If you'd like to see more... I posted a slightly different version of the recipe on my blog... way back in January 2012, when we lived in Melbourne.
Oh boy looking back at some of these old blog posts, I baked an awful lot back then.

So as usual I'm linking up with the Paint Party Friday gang.
Thanks Eva and Kristin for hosting once again.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone and thanks for your visit today.
It's always great to see you and I'd love to hear from you.

    1. It is lovely to catch up with you too Sue although I'm rather late in my reply. I'm having trouble with my time management.
I'm happy to hear that you liked my artwork and recipe... and also having a look back in time. I can't believe it was that long ago that I did that recipe on the blog. I was living in Melbourne then and obviously had time for baking. No such thing here it has to be said.
I'll pop across to visit you soon. Happy PPF to you even if it is a week late :D

  3. Love this recipe art. LOL Also the short bread. Lots of short bread being baked. I made Cardamon short bread cookies the other day and lots of people making them with lavender. Yours sounds best though.

    1. Oops sorry Nan, I didn't see your message until now. I'm having time management issues...I just can't seem to get my act together. Here we are and a whole week has passed. I'm beginning to think that there are more than one Friday in a week!
I haven't even got any artwork to share this week. Tut tut!
Have a great weekend too :D

  6. YAY you finished it, great job. They look delicious. I'll have to try modifying it and making it gluten free. It should only be the crust that has to change and I have a great shortbread recipe to use! YUMMM. Looks great my friend.

    1. Phewph...yes I did Jenn, but I haven't managed this weeks assignment!
I appear to be hopeless at time management lately. It should be an easy assignment, but for whatever reason I'm struggling. I have to say I love using your paint samples...that's not my problem, it's just coming up with creative ideas.
Thanks for your encouragement. I really appreciate it :D

  7. Yum, I love shortbread but have never made it. I am not an enthusiastic cook. Your recipe is so cute.

    1. Well Fran, shortbread is one of the easiest recipes. All you do is mix everything together and then rub them between your fingers until they look like breadcrumbs. Then you press them into a baking tin and press down with your knuckles and that's it...they can go into the oven. Hey presto!
I'm happy you liked the recipe...but don't forget to let me know if you try it. Even if you just bake the shortbread without the caramel and chocolate.
      Have fun :D

I think I should remedy that over this weekend don't you?

    1. I'm drizzled white chocolate across the top of the dark chocolate and it certainly add to not only the look, but also the taste.
I was thinking about illustrating a recipe book with all of our handed down recipes and family favourites.
It's on my to do list Jennifer, along with masses of other things.
Have a great weekend and apologies for my late reply.

    2. no apologies needed, we all seem to be really really busy right now :)

if I had my grandmothers recipes I would illustrate a book but no one has them anymore :/

    3. Ahh that's a shame that you don't have any recipes.
I don't think my grandmother ever had anything written down...it would just have to be someone taking notes as she added a little of this and a little of that...oh and yes I'll add a dash of that too šŸ˜‰

  10. Wonderful illustration, and it looks yummy! Shortbread was the only biscuit I baked for a long time, quick and simply but always a great success. Haven't made them in years, but these look very tempting to try again!

  11. Gorgeous and yum. I have a recipe we make yearly passed on from my grandmother. It's not layered like this one. However I dipped them in chocolate one year. Mine have three ingredients and the secret is kneading them 20 minutes, using real butter, and light brown sugar. They are different and amazing.A wonderful recipe to mount in a frame!

    1. I adore recipes which have been handed down from grandmothers. All that history and love that they added...like a secret ingredient.
Your recipe sounds delicious and I think it would be perfect for a frame...let me see it if you do mount it please :D
Have a lovely peaceful weekend xx
