  1. To think that Mandela spent 18 years there but it never broke his indomitable spirit.

    1. Maybe that's my fault.
To post this photo into Silent Sunday with no explanation or words to accompany it. But it seemed appropriate really.
The photo is of myself when I visited Robben Island in South Africa. I wrote a post back in 2011...here's the link for you if you'd like to see and read more.

  11. So ignorant about Mandela (must read more), though picked up the connection after a while...my Africkaans is pretty rubbish, am guessing it must have been an awesome place to visit.

  17. Thought of you last weekend and thought I may find a word (or picture) about Madiba here... I remembered form your previous post that he made a big impression on you:-) It has been a week of reflection for us. Like one lady at his funeral said:"Freedom is great, but without reconciliation, what do you really have?" He was so much more than a freedom fighter... he was also a reconciler. That's huge!

    1. I'm so sorry to take until now to reply to your comment Minnemie, but I've escaped the mayhem at home to have a Christmas at my sisters grotto. I'm sure she's Mrs Claus.
We were going to stay at home for Christmas this year with it being our first back in the UK, but the amount of dust and mess just got to be too much.

I thought a silent tribute to Madiba by just posting a picture, was the right thing to do. I found that when I tried to write, I struggled to find the right things to say.

On a lighter note I hope you are having a festive fun time getting ready for Christmas. I can imagine that there's a huge amount of excitement in your household. I wish you the very best Christmas plus health and happiness for 2014. Let's hope that the new year is the best one yet!
      xoxo
