Paint Party Friday...Summers here

Well hello there....I'm back.
Would you believe that I've been tootling around yet again.
In fact, I've just realised that I've been to three major city's in three weeks!
I really do need my wings clipping.

I just can't get used to the light nights that come with the summer months here in the UK.
I must confess that I seem to cram even more into each day....even more than usual if that's possible. For example, I actually heard the dawn chorus at 3.15 am yesterday and when you think it doesn't get dark until around 11.00 pm at the moment, then it's not so surprising that you can get so much done in a day...if only my energy would last that long. Alas my battery runs out about 8.30/9.00 pm.
As a reward for getting lots done this week, I decided that this morning from first light I'd nip into the studio to create something before I got distracted and involved with various tasks and chores of the day.
The artwork was to come first today and take priority which rarely happens.
I've not exactly settled into this new room yet, so I was quite pleased that I actually managed to produce anything.
I wanted to do draw/paint something summery, but unfortunately it's not bright here today...it's what some call 'Muggy'. That's warm but not in a good way...a little dull and sticky.
The sun's disappeared behind a complete blanket of grey cloud and there's even a smidgen of rain now.
So unfortunately there wasn't good light for taking this photograph.
The yellow on the original painting is very vibrant and the blue's bright...but you'll just have to believe me.  I used Derwent's Intense watercolour pencils.
I couldn't resist adding just a little zentangle.
I'm going to link to Paint Party Friday, so if you'd like to see other artists work...
... just click on this link PPF
and also Jenn's Artist Play Room

Oh and I nearly forgot to tell you my latest news.
I'm joining an art group.
I'm quite excited about it because it will mean that for three whole hours every week, I'll be able to take myself off to do what makes my heart sing!
Tra...laaaa..!
I'll be sure to let you see what I get up to and there's talk that after about 14 weeks they'll be an exhibition to show our work. It's been many years since my last exhibition, so it will be both exciting and nerve-wrecking all at the same time!

Well it's Friday night and there's a chilled glass of vino waiting for me...it's amazing how spoilt I can be whilst there's World Cup footy to be watched on the TV.
Anything to keep me quiet eh? They must think I was born yesterday.
Thanks for popping in to my place
Whatever you get up to this weekend...have fun.

  1. I love to see a little zentangle sneak in to other mediums. They set each other off nicely. Todays high here in CA is 90 so i'm gonna head out the door for a walk before it gets really warm. Good to see you getting your art on! :) Hugs! deb

    1. Hi Deb, I'm using the time whilst the World Cup is on to catch up with outstanding comments. I can't believe I'm so behind...but better late than never eh?
I can't resist a little t'angling at times and thought this painting could just do with a little addition.
I'm sitting in front of a roaring fire here as summer seems to have forgotten to call. Enjoy your weekend and heat

The World Cup being on is helping!
Unfortunately the art class has been delayed until September, but I've put my name forward for another art group in the meantime.

  5. With the views you have from your window, how could you not produce something fabulous. I love your picture. I can just picture myself sitting in that deck chair right now :) The class sound so great, I can't wait to hear all about it and see your picks. I'll write soon, have some news for you.

    1. Aww thanks Von,
I must admit it is lovely to sit at the desk and look out over the garden and surrounding area. I really need to be disciplined if I want to actually produce anything whilst I'm in there ;D
Oh how I wish the weather was good enough for deck chairs too. I'm sitting in front of the fire at the moment. It's only 11 degrees. This surely can't be summer?
Unfortunately the art classes have been put back until September, so I'll have to keep playing painting until then.
Now you've got me so intrigued as to your news...I'll hold my breath until I hear so please don't keep me in suspense too long!
      Luv you too....enjoy your weekend.
(apologies for such a delay in my reply...thankfully with so much footy on here I'm now catching up)

    1. Well the World Cup is still on here Winnie but at least it's helping me catch up with my comments. I'm sorry for taking so long.in getting back to you but better late than never I suppose ;D
I'm still not comfortable with the pencils but I feel if I keep using them I'm bound to improve. Well that's the plan anyway.
Unfortunately the beach scene above is the nearest I'll get to the beach for a while. It's really chilly here at the moment with only 11 degrees celsius.
Hmm...a glass of wine whilst enjoying the evening in the garden. It sounds very civilized ;D
      Enjoy xoxo

  7. What a wonderful studio space you've carved out. I like the pencils and they make it so much easier to waterpaint. Cute little summer vignette. xo Jenny

I enjoyed playing with this one ;D
Even though we've stopped remodeling the house for now we will start again towards the end of the summer. (if it ever comes that is) There's lots to do...so what we've done is part of Phase 1. There's about 24 phases planned! hehe
Hugs to you and I hope you're having an enjoyable weekend

    1. Hi Nicole,
Firstly, I need to apologise for taking so long in replying to your lovely comment. I'm normally much quicker than this, but it's been quite a hectic time lately.
The coast here sounds just like yours....cold and colder. We're only 11 degrees today and it's supposed to be summer. After Australia and the Middle East I'm missing heat!
Yeah...I love the studio too but just need to spend more time in there.
      I hope you're having a great weekend...enjoy!

Unfortunately the art classes are delayed until September but I'll be sure to enjoy them when they start. If nothing else I'll get to dedicate a definite time and place to play.
I hope your weekend is going well. It was great to have you come over to visit although possibly a tad too cold for deck chairs. Only 11 degrees today...brrrrr!!!!

  12. Hey, great to see your back in the creative swing and joining an Art Group, what fun!! And now you have a studio well, there will be no stopping you. AND on the bright side there are an awful lot of soccer matches being played in the next few weeks so just think what you can achieve, armed with a glass of vino and a house full of distracted men!!!
    You go girl!

You hit the nail on the head with your last sentence...glass of vino and distracted men. I could have served up coasters for dinner and they wouldn't have noticed!
      Ho hum
I hope you're having a great weekend and enjoying all the sports that's taking over our planet just now.

  13. I love your spot by the window, Neesie! Gorgeous painting too...I really the vibrancy of Inktense pencils. I remember how odd it felt for the day-time to be so long when my immediate family went back to visit extended family when I was only 14. How I'd love to have those long days here as I'd get so much done art-wise. I prefer working in natural daylight.

I'm sure you'll have a blast with your art group. I joined an Urban Sketchers group earlier this year and I've been having lots of fun going on their sketch-outs around Brissie. So nice to hang with like-minded people. :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend ~ xo

    1. Hi Serena, well it's on it's way to 11pm here and it's still light...ish!
The trouble with these long daylight hours is that you want to keep going but you run out of energy...or maybe that's just me? ;D
I'm quite excited about the art group but unfortunately it's delayed until September.
Sorry to take so long in replying to your lovely comment. I'm normally much quicker than this but it's been a little crazy here.
      I hope you're having a wonderful weekend...enjoy!

  14. Really love your summery painting. What vivid colors!! I think you'll have fun with your art group. I have not met any kindred spirits here in USA to paint with yet like I did in the UK. Watched the England match yesterday....bit of a disaster I thought. But better luck for the England team next time....although you are Scottish so maybe you don't support them. Happy PPF

    1. I'm a little unhappy with the way the photo came out actually because the original is much more vibrant but hey ho...what can you do when the light plays tricks.
I was thinking that the yellow was a little too bright!
It's a shame that you haven't met up with kindred spirits because they'll be out there. I've been too busy settling back into UK life that I've neglected things l'd like to do.
Eek...with my late response to your comment (I'm normally so much quicker) England are well and truly out...but then Andy Murray is still in ;D
      So it's not all bad!
I'll let you into a little secret...I'm not Scottish but would support any team from Britain. I'm from Cheshire, England originally...it's just work has brought us north of the border.
Have a wonderful weekend and maybe I'll see you at another PPF soon.

Thanks for your lovely comment about my beach scene. It appears that that's as near as I'll get to a beach with only 11 degrees here at the moment!
Can't believe that this is supposed to be summer
