There was an old woman....

Do you know the song/nursery rhyme "There was an old woman..."?
Sing along with me if you do...
"There was an old woman who swallowed a fly
I don't know why she swallowed a fly
Perhaps she'll die"
Well thankfully I didn't die, although it was touch and go for a time.

I happened to be busy catching up with a few chores after yet again being away for a few days...
pulling a few weeds as I passed I must have obviously been hyperventilating, because as I bent over
a wee beastie decided to take a trip into my mouth!
I tried desperately not to swallow it, but that little bugger was intent on his mission.
Coughing and spluttering I staggered into the house and tried to drown him by gulping a glass of water, but alas he'd hidden in between somewhere... neither up nor down.
(cough, cough, splutter splutter...)
Finally after a coughing fit of about half an hour, he must have decided to give in...
adding to my protein intake for this last week.
When I explained what had happened reliving my sorry tale to my hubby, he wasn't in the least bit as sympathetic as I thought he should be...
but then he explained that's a constant occurrence when you're a cyclist.
Eew!!!

My absence was to sadly attend my Uncle J's funeral.
A huge man who both delighted and frightened me.
I remember when he visited my childhood home... he would enter the room and fill the doorway with his frame. He always asked for a kiss from me knowing it would send me running to hide behind the sofa...
well I was just a little toot back then.
I'm so glad that upon our last meeting we laughed about this and I willingly volunteered to give him a little wee peck on the cheek after all these years. I remember his smile from that day.
I also remember he fell asleep once, in a deckchair on the beach with his socks on and later that night we all had such a giggle when he showed us the sock pattern in bright red sunburn on his feet.
I don't think his feet were right for at least a week.
The sun had burnt right through the weave of the socks.
This was accompanied with white strips across his sun burnt tummy.
The sun hadn't reached between the creases on his stomach, as he sat in a deckchair, but all the rest of his middle glowed bright red.
I'll not dwell too long on all of my memories, but I just want to say what a wonderful family I have.
We all came together and shared our memories and bid him a sad final farewell.
RIP Uncle J
x

Later, I had an opportunity over the remaining few days to visit aunts and cousins that I haven't seen for years...
...oh the reminiscing, memories and tales we exchanged.
I'm very blessed with my family and appreciate them all because I know that this is special.
Not everyone has such a great gift..

Keeping that theme... here's where I originate from....
I've often seen this map on my sister's wall but never stopped to appreciate it...
It's where my roots are and my family (as well as my hubby's) are all still located there.
Here's a closer look...
I'm not sure you'll be able to read any of the fascinating details...apologies if you can't

So that's it for today,
I had lots of posts in my head from both trips, but as often happens I didn't know where to start...
or what to say... there was just too much.
I think I'll just leave you with this video clip that I took of Mufftypup running across a field yesterday.
I won't say too much about it as it may spoil it, but I think there's a possibility you'll have a giggle.

Apologise for my high pitch voice but all the music I tried just didn't fit.
It's not my normal voice ~ honestly!

Have fun and enjoy your weekend everyone...
I'll be back to natter soon

  1. Neesie that video was just the cutest. Loved hearing your voice too. :) I'm so sorry to hear about your Uncle but how wonderful to get together with family. Perhaps he would have enjoyed that he brought you all together for a visit.

We've a rainy couple of days here. So nice. And we need it so badly. Clear weather for the next week though. So glad to have you back. Hugs! deb

    1. I was just taking the video for myself, but when she did her acrobatics I thought it would be amusing to others ^..^
I really didn't want my voice on there but because she's quite a distance I thought I'd better include it... that way everyone would know that she did her somersault.
My Uncle was a funny man and I just wished the service could have been a little lighter, but at least I was able to visit quite a few relatives whilst there. Something that always seemed to be put off when I was traveling overseas.
I'm happy to report we've had a lovely day here today... but not sure how long that will last, so I've made the most of it. At the moment I'm planting up pots with bulbs and winter plants. Red, white and greenery... so all very Christmassy.
Yep I'm ready to head in and start my plans for the holidays now.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope to get back up to speed in the next few days so will pop over to see what you've been up to soon.
      Pop the kettle on... xoxo

    1. Thanks Laurie, I'm glad you liked the video. I wasn't sure whether to share it or not.
I'm so sorry that I've not visited you recently... in fact I've hardly been online but I hope to catch up soon. I've been to art class today and there's an exhibition looming that I just don't want. Basically I've not finished any of my work so I'd better get a wriggle on. I'm going to dedicate the rest of this week to getting something semi-decent to show.
Thanks for popping by... take care and have a great week.
      See you soon xoxo

    1. Thanks Nan,
Those little tales of Uncle J are often revisited whenever we get together especially the sunburn story. It was hilarious although he must have been in agony. I remember he couldn't wear anything other than his sandals for quite some time.
I'm happy to hear that you liked the video. As I've mentioned before I was unsure whether to share or not. I certainly didn't intend to until she did her acrobatics!
I think it gave her a shock (hehe)
Apologies for late reply and not visiting you recently. I hope to rectify that soon.
Pop the kettle on (if it's unpacked) and I'll be along shortly.

  4. That is a fab map, I would like one of then hole of England to be honest....it would be huge with detail, huh! Very sorry to read of your Uncle's passing, you have some lovely memories and I'm sure he'd be really pleased to know that you took the chance to visit with your extended family.

    1. I've got a smaller black and white map of the Wirral, but it doesn't have so much historical detail on it. You are so right... a map of the whole of the UK would be either needing an annexe to house it, or have minute writing which would ruin the eyesight ;D
Thanks for your kind words about my Uncle. He was a good age as they say.
At least we were able to make the most of my visit and turn it into positives visiting lots of older relatives.
Thanks for visiting and I hope I'll be able to do likewise. I'm also hoping to share my desk soon. I just need to get my act together.
Have fun and enjoy your week ;D

  5. We always said Muftypup had star qualities - shame you didn't get her on CircusOz before you left! Poor you with the fly in the mouth saga luckily you survived the saga but we were all sorry to read about Uncle J - RIP. Lovely memories...
    Take care

    1. I think she has her sights set for the Cirque du Soleil Wren, once she gets her back flip sorted. If you remember her handstands are pretty perfected with nearly 11 years experience (if you remember when she widdle's she does so whilst balancing only on her front paws... very tricky... not that I've tried it you understand I just assume so)
      Thanks for your condolences.
I'm still trying to catch up from my first little trip away so now I'm waaaaaaaaaaay behind but I hope to stop by for a cuppa and natter at your place soon.
Pop the kettle on my friend... I'm on my way

    1. Thanks Jenn,
My Uncle was a few days away from his 86 birthday so he was a good age... bless.
I bet that fly was freaked especially when I was having him go up and down my gullet with water, coughs and splutters.
I hope it's not too cold for you just now. I'll wrap up and nip across to you soon.
In the meantime keep cosy xoxo
