I have to admit that I'm reeling today from the outcome of our EU Referendum, along with many others no doubt. We are on the cusp of many changes in the coming months for sure.
It also looks like there may well be a Scottish Referendum because of this result... so uncertain times lie ahead.
We never envisaged so many changes when we made the decision to leave Australia three years ago and I'm wondering with hindsight, whether we would make the same decision if we had to make it now.
Whilst preparing for forthcoming visitors this weekend and not having had any time for artwork, I thought you might like to see a piece of art that we bought when we lived in Melbourne.
We bought the painting below from the St. Kilda Esplanade Sunday Market and actually watched and talked to the artist.
It was brilliant to watch her work.
It's a beach scene of Brighton with Melbourne city skyscrapers in the right hand corner.
The beach huts are so colourful... I love them.
I'm so happy that I bought this painting, because we've had visitors come to stay with us from Melbourne. It's a little reminder of home for them, as it hangs over the bed in the guest bedroom.
When I look at this painting I'm immediately transformed back there.
I'm not sure if the artist still sells her work at the Sunday Market... but if you are ever in Melbourne and find a Sunday morning free, then I recommend a visit.
It's a craft fair and there are so many stalls selling lots of interesting things.
After being up late last night watching the drama unfold... I think I need to lie down for a wee while.
Obviously I can't go into this bedroom.
The tea and coffee making facilities are already ready and waiting.
Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for popping in.
Lovely paintings! I am really in shock over the Brexit decision it is going to turn everything upside down.Happy PPF, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThank you Valerie... It's vibrant colours remind me so much of my time in Australia.
DeleteI think a lot of people are in shock over the Brexit decision. If we then have a Scottish Referendum it'll mean lots of changes for quite some time.
Happy PPF to you too.
lovely pieces you bought, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure Christine, I just wish that I had painted it!
DeleteWhat a lovely painting you chose. The ocean is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it just Lisa, I've always lived near the sea in my adult life. I love the colours the artist has used in this painting. So bright, vibrant and cheerful.
DeleteAmazing art work!
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs
Maarit
Thanks for your visit and comment Maarit,
DeleteHappy PPF to you
gorgeous colourful paintings to have :)
ReplyDeleteI spent almost the whole morning reading the news on every site trying to figure everything out and if the way Scotland voted is anything to go by, there will def be another referendum sooner rather than later. been here 10 years and this is the first time when the thought of going back has crossed my/our mind. looking at the graphic design job market just in case lol
It certainly 'brightons' (get it?) any room Jennifer.
DeleteAhh don't go... I think there are many people been put in a spin with this outcome. We'll just have to hope and see how it unveils.
wouldnt be until after I graduated if we did move and that could be over 3 years from now if I do a masters and things can and will change so much in that time but its good to keep options open.
DeleteI think we all may have to rethink things with so many changes ahead. Hopefully it'll all work out in the end. I'm trying to think about glasses half full and not empty!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous guestroom made even lovelier by that fantastic painting.
ReplyDeleteThank you Faye, I've had good reviews about the room from previous guests so hopefully it'll suffice once again.
Deletecome back... and move to brisbane... there is a beautiful house for sale up the road... can you imagine to mischief we could get up to... the mind boggles
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Oh if only I could Tracey. I've been giggling all day thinking what we might get up to. Maybe if you could reorganise your humidity setting then it might be a better option. I've lived in 90+ humidity and it's not pleasant. I love your winters though. Just like our summers!
DeleteJust keep me informed on that sale... I always say "never say never"
It is indeed an amazing painting, and I am tickled pink to again see the room in which it is hanging.
ReplyDeleteI thought you might like to revisit Pam, a little wee surprise for you when you saw this post ;D
DeleteHi Denise, popped over from "Wandering Wren's" blog. What a lovely guest bedroom! I'm also flabbergasted at the referendum result...
ReplyDeleteWell hello there Sami, anyone who is a friend of Wren is a friend of mine. You're very welcome and I hope you enjoy your visit.
DeleteThe super king bed is always a hit with guests. One even commented that it's like sleeping on a cloud!
Yes, I bet lots of people in the UK are second-guessing themselves about many things today. Best wishes for all in uncertain times! Love the texture of those paintings.
ReplyDeleteThere are many people admitting that they are really nervous about what's to come even when they've voted out! I've decided that I'm going to try to see the glass half full and not empty!
DeleteBeautiful painting and inviting guest room.
ReplyDeleteNo idea what changes this decision will bring. I think the world is holding their breath.
Thanks Rita,
DeleteI think you could be right... there will be many changes ahead. I hope they will all be for the good.
Love the beach huts!!! Looks like a fun day!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Peggy... the beach huts are fantastic. I thought it might be nice to have one until I realised just how much they cost!
Deletewell so far the Brits I have seen blog about this are not happy about it! What a beautiful painting-I love the colors and the water scene and wow-such a gorgeous guest room-I'd feel like a queen in it:) Enjoy, and happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, well you could be a Queen because it's a Super King bed!
DeleteLove the painting on your room. Bright and and full of texture. Lucky you, that were able to see it become into a gorgeous piece and bought it! ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Nora Clemens-Gallo
It certainly was special chatting with the artist and I love the painting. It evokes lots of memories.
DeleteBeautiful painting and you were fortunate to see it being created. Yes, the Brexit seems to have thrown everyone into a loop even those who voted for it.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it just Indira... I love it.
DeleteIt has been a crazy few weeks and I don't think it's quite over yet!
OK, so totally jealous of you and Tracey even thinking of living down the road from one another. My problem is the critters. CAN'T live somewhere that slithers, unfortunately. And don't get me started about anything with eight legs! You guys would be a laugh a minute and you'd have to take pictures of your coffee klatches just for me. You look like a wonderful hostess Neesie. Hope all the hulabuloo in the UK isn't gonna affect you in any way other than psychologically. We here in Canada were blown away too, what a mind bending thing this is! Love from here.
ReplyDeleteHaha can you imagine Jenn... oh what a time we'd have!
DeleteI have to say that when I lived in Melbourne I didn't really see anything that slithered, but then Brissie is a whole lot warmer!
I think the most yukky thing that I saw was a Kookaburra gobbling down a whole rat near the creek near our house!
My visitors have left but they put a lovely post out on their Facebook account. I will blush if I told you what they wrote... suffice to say they enjoyed their stay. The weather was kind and there was even a little sunburn too. Dispelling the myth that our weather is always horrible.
Our mind bending time is an ongoing saga... heaven knows how it will all end! Brissie's sounding better by the day!
The painting of the beach huts is wonderful. I have never seen anything like it. grew up on the beach in south Florida, but there were no huts. These are precious...so colorful. She is a fabulous artist. Thanks for sharing. genie
ReplyDeleteThe beach huts are fantastic. We have them here in the UK, but more on the beaches in the South of the country. They are so expensive to buy too and have waiting lists!
DeleteIt was my pleasure to share... I just wish I'd have painted it.
I so love your art. There is such movement and depth to it. Yes the world is changing fast. This decision for the UK will bring change to the world. Some not good.
ReplyDeleteThank you Nicole, but I have to admit that I didn't paint this one. I just wish I had... I'd be one happy bunny!
DeleteYes strange times ahead, especially with more of the shenanigans of this week. A worrying time indeed.
Oh that room is crispy crunchy and so inviting!! The painting is very pretty. I think the people were really duped with the referendum...I hope they will have another kick at the can. Seems like another referendum is needed! I bet many didn't vote that should have!! So many strange things are happening in the world today... a bit nerve wracking. These are the biggest changes in my lifetime! Wishing the all of the UK all the best. My dad was born in Scotland, two of my best friends parents are from Scotland with piles of family there...and my daughters favourite destination is London! You should buy the house down the road from Tracey...oh what fun you would have!!lol I'm with you on the heat though...
ReplyDeleteHugs Giggles
Hehe... well everyone who has stayed in that room seems to find everything to their liking Giggles. The super King bed helps I suppose and one guest once said that sleeping on the it was like sleeping on a cloud! It's looking like there may well be another Scottish Referendum. I couldn't agree more with you... I feel the world is a little crazy right now.
DeleteThanks for your well wishes... I think we might need them... who knows how it will all work out! Hopefully everything will be okay in the end.
Brissie might be an option if it all goes belly up, but it's a tad too warm there for me. I've lived with humidity and it's not pleasant. But just thinking about being down the road from Tracey makes me giggle! Fun? I think it'd be hilarious!
Amazing and exciting paintings. Wow what talent you have:-)
ReplyDeleteOops I just wish it had been mine. If so then I'd be a very happy bunny!
DeleteMuch uncertainty for sure. But in the meantime, you have a lovely guest bedroom ready for guests with beautiful art for them to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteThe guests enjoyed their stay Irene, we had a great time.
DeleteThe drama over the last few weeks still unfolds and I'm not too sure where it will end. Hopefully for the good.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
What a gorgeous painting, and what a beautiful memory of your time there to have for you. I've never been to Australia, but would love to one visit one day. I'm not so sure I could bear the heat and humidity in some places, and I'd definitely miss snow.
ReplyDeleteI can certainly recommend a visit Nordljus and just because it's such a distance pop into New Zealand (North and South Island) too.
DeleteWhen we lived in Melbourne it was quite tolerant and only went to 40 degrees Centigrade on two occasions in the six years we lived there.
Now are you sitting down because I'm about to shock you... there are parts of Australia that have snow! I KNOW I was shocked when we arrived and found out that people go skiing just a couple of hours or so outside of Melbourne.
Hi Neesie You are certainly the hostess with the mostess, I am sorry that I didn't get to visit again on this trip you Guest room is the best!
ReplyDeleteLove that painting, think I will have to make a trip out to St Kilda myself!
Wren x
Aww bless you Wren,
DeleteYes it was a pity that we missed each other, although the Skype chat was a very good second best.
I actually got a five star rating from my last guests... even though I'm not even on the charts as it were.
I think you'd like the St Kilda Sunday market. It's great for crafts, creations of various kinds and gifts galore, plus lots of artists showing their wares.
A nice way to pass a Sunday morning, especially if you nip in somewhere for breakfast or brunch!
Beautiful paintings - I could get lost in the colors!
ReplyDeleteI have been to Sydney - Cannes(?) - stayed on an old sheep station in Cummings and have snorkeled along the Great Barrier Reef. Australia is a long, long way from here. I personally would rather live where you do!!!!
sandy xx
In over six years of living in Melbourne I think I only visited Sydney twice, but I had visited the Gold Coast and Perth numerous times when we lived in Brunei.
DeleteThis place would be heaven if we could have warmer summers and less rain, but then I suppose if we did then it wouldn't be the same. It certainly is a green and pleasant land!
