My Sunday Photo...Aquilegia

Today, like most of the country was bathed in glorious sunlight...there was a warmth to the sun that we haven't felt here in the North East of Scotland since last year.
Our first true summer day.
This flower...the Aquilegia with it's beautiful bright yellow flowers look like lots of miniature suns dotted throughout the border.
I believe this particular one might be the Aquilegia chrysantha Yellow Queen, but please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
It produces bee-pleasing bright yellow flowers in May, a month when flowers tend to be in short supply.
I'm linking up with My Sunday Photo as usual.
Thanks Darren for hosting once again.
Please feel free to pop across to see lots more photographs by clicking here

I'm hoping tomorrow will be day two of our summer.
Thanks for popping by and I hope to see you again soon.
Enjoy your Sunday

    1. They are lovely Ttacey and the more you cut them...the more they produce. I scattered lots of seeds last year and so have quite a good collection of the various colours. It's great to see the bee's enjoying them as well as us!

    1. Thanks Fiona,
I have the other various colours, but I decided that my photo had to be this glorious yellow due to our sun filled day today!

    1. Well we only had 25 degrees (which is really fantastic for the North East of Scotland) but I know you've had it warmer down with you. It's great to finally feel summer has arrived and hopefully long may it continue!

  5. They are lovely flowers. Ours are all white now as they have had decades to cross pollinate and self seed, with no help from me. Still enjoy the shape. Here's to your day 2 of summer. #MySundayPhoto

    1. I got a little carried away with helping spreading the seeds about last year and so I've really got quite a collection now. I love to cut them and bring them into the house. I think I like the blue the best...or maybe the pink and yellow...or maybe... oh I just love them all!
Keeping fingers crossed for day 2. It's still 17 degrees and it's now nearly 1 am so it looks like it might be another hot one.

    1. Well summer did arrive sirkkis, but it seems very troubled. There's plenty of heavy grey clouds drifting across the sky, which is hiding the suns rays far more than I'd like. Further down the country they are experiencing very hot temperatures...but up here in Bonnie Scotland it's only just reaching 20 degrees. I wouldn't mind a little more heat...please? ;D

    1. I have more of the blue variety Tas. They are sometimes called 'Grandma's Bonnet' which I think is rather cute. I have three varieties in my flower borders and if you leave the flower heads to go to seed they are like rattles. Self seeding makes them very easy to fill borders.

    1. They are beautiful and they produce their flowers very early on in May, which is great to get some early colour into the garden.

  9. What a beautiful flower. I don't recognise it. The only yellow we have in our garden is the long-gone daffodil.

    1. Well these Aquilegia or 'Grandma's Bonnets' as they are sometimes known flower after the daffodils...in early May. They are a few different varieties and I especially like the blue ones. They add much needed colour early into the garden.

    1. There really are delightful in the garden. No fuss or attention needed. The sun just caught this one perfectly so I captured the image. I'm surprised just how many people haven't heard of them.

    1. There appears to be quite a few people that aren't familiar with it either Carol. This close up doesn't really give a view of the whole flower. They're also known as 'Grandma's Bonnet', which I think is cute.

    1. They are supposed to be self seeding Sally, so maybe this years conditions suited them well. I sprinkled the seed heads all over my flower borders last year and now I have so many. I may even have to uproot some. I hope you have them appear every year because they really are cheerful flowers, especially appearing in early May.
