My Sunday Photo... Creeper

Today, I thought I'd show you a few more of my visitors.

This little bird is a treecreeper.

I have never seen a treecreeper on the ground like this before... but obviously the fallen seed from the bird table was too tempting.

Once you know what you're looking for, a treecreeper is quite noticeable with his white underside.

They use their tails in a similar way to woodpeckers' as a support when climbing and they really are quite acrobatic... but with those claws I suppose it's not surprising.
Their bills are curved and sharp, for extracting insect food and seeds from crevices in tree bark.

He definitely could do with a pedicure!

I did miss a fantastic photographic opportunity today, as I drove up my lane as dusk began to fall.

A buzzard was sitting on a telegraph pole with the sun behind him. 

If only I could have stopped in the lane to take the photo, but that would have been foolish.

It'll have to be one of those tales of  'the one that got away'!

But here he is a little later, flying low over the fields looking for a meal before bedtime.

Apologies for the blurred image, but the light was fading... I'm surprised I managed to get any image in the circumstances.

Whilst I was photographing this buzzard two crows came and started to attack him... he was obviously on their patch.

But then so was someone else!

At this stage our girls (hens) were still out in the folly... safe but because we didn't want Mr Fox to get too familiar with their whereabouts... we had to go out and get them into their coop. 

It was getting near to their bedtime anyway and three of them had already settled down and were comfy for the night.

We made a few unwelcome noises which made Mr Fox go elsewhere for his supper!

Spot The Wildlife

As I enjoyed my morning cuppa whilst gazing out of the window, I became aware of one of our neighbours. Someone else was enjoying the beautiful warm morning sunshine. 

I'm not sure you'll immediately see the subject of My Sunday Photo in this photograph below, as he was quite a distance... even for my zoom lens. 

Right in the centre of the shot is Mr Fox!

His winter coat is quite spectacular and he's a handsome, healthy looking chap. 

He's obviously a very good hunter by the look of his physique... he's certainly not managing on scraps by the look of him.

Now I'm not saying that this particular fox is the one that nearly took our Annie away, as I have seen two foxes playing in the field, but I certainly hope this one keeps his distance... even if it means My Sunday Photo has to suffer.

I'd much rather that than losing one of my chooks! 

My elderly neighbour had mentioned that she'd got some more chickens (about 12 in total) but 'someone' had been taking them? I didn't have the heart to tell her that it probably wasn't a 'someone'... more a 'something'!

I have cropped the photo so that it'll make it easier to see him.

He certainly knew I was taking his picture as he looked directly at me.

The click of the camera travelled right across the field, blowing my cover!

I managed to take a few shots where he had his eyes closed, enjoying the rays.

It was the perfect perch for him... on the raised grassy mound. 

It enabled him to enjoy the sun, but also to see all around.

Well it was perfect until a dog came mooching along...then Mr Fox slunk away into the ferns and that was the last I saw of him for the rest of the day.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to you all

I hope you had a fabulous festive holiday.

Now that all the festivities are over and the shortest day has past, I must say that I'm enjoying the prospect of waiting for signs that spring is on its way.

There are actual signs already... snowdrop shoots and daffodil tops are already peeking through the earth.

A few of my Christmas presents will help me capture everything... hopefully creating beautiful images.

My son has been having fun with setting up the night camera in various locations around our property and the first night showed masses of activity!

Woohoo!

It wasn't until we checked the next morning, that we realised that the low hanging branches of a tree and a tarpaulin (covering a pile of logs) flapping in the wind, was the only images captured. 

What a disappointment.  

But look who passed through on night two!

But then last night's footage has thrown up a mystery... 

we have no idea what the animal image below is? 

Some say it's another Fox, others say a Badger.

There's been talk of Wild Cats and even a Pine Marten

We've even sent the image to the experts, but they haven't replied yet.

So what do you think?

I'll post the answer if we get anything definite from either the experts or more definite footage.
