This is to be a super speedy link to Paint Party Friday today, because basically I've nothing to show. I have been away and unlike some artists who paint whilst their on holiday, I'm afraid all my good intentions amounted to nothing. Even though with limited weight allowance I still carried my art supplies, so the intentions were there... but then time disappeared.
But one thing I would like to share with you today, is my adult colouring book.
I must say I'd never thought about mentioning adult colouring books would cause a stir until my son's face told me it had all sorts of different connotations.
So I'm going to say it's a colouring book for adults.
Oh my... it doesn't sound good no matter how I say it.
Or maybe it's just me?
Anyway... let's move on
Here's the book
I've thought about creating a colouring book myself and know Johanna Basford's work's already, so I've been keen to purchase it. A flight delay meant I had some time to wondering around the book shop and just had to have it when I saw it on the shelf.
By the way... Johanna actually lives in Aberdeen too.
This is a beautiful book and I was showing someone all the intricate details, when they realised that I wouldn't be colouring it in. They were surprised, but I wouldn't dream of doing that.
I want to keep it just as it is... which I suppose isn't the point but then that's just me.
I want to keep it just as it is... which I suppose isn't the point but then that's just me.
Hopefully, I'll have caught up and produced some artwork for next week but if you'd like to visit Eva and Kristin's party then click here
Have a wonderful weekend everyone and hopefully I'll see you again soon.
p.s. Wish me luck because I'll be spending some time over the next week editing and loading my photo's (all 1556) onto a hard drive. If you hear a squeal... then you'll know I've lost them!
I saw many coloring books recently at the book stores here in Austria as well... it gets popular just now..why not? It's relaxing for sure. Good luck with all your photos!
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF!

Susi
Hi Susi,
DeleteThe books seem to be popular everywhere at the moment. I believe they are used in mindfulness sessions for people who suffer from work related stress.
I know that I find drawing zentangles completely relaxing.
On the other hand transferring my photo's won't be... I keep putting it off but I'm running out of space so will have to be brave soon.
Thanks for your visit and comment.
Have a great weekend ad enjoy PPF
That looks like a beautiful colouring book, I wouldn't touch it either!
ReplyDeleteOh that's so good to hear Christine, because I thought it might sound a little strange to buy a colouring book but not want to colour it.
DeleteThanks for visiting and have a fun weekend.
Love the coloring books coming out. Many of my friends who can not draw turn to them now as art therapy. Its perfect, everyone needs a little art in their lives. Your drawing is beautiful! So details. Very talented :)
ReplyDeleteLiz Waeltz
I think they're a brilliant idea too Liz,
DeleteI can imagine many people gaining from spending a little time creating their own artwork, especially if they couldn't do it for themselves.
Have a great weekend and Happy PPF to you
It looks like a really enchanted paint book.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the photos, I'm looking forward to see any of them here...
Have a nice weekend
I'm so nervous about transferring the photos that I've put the task to one side for today. I'll start again tomorrow and once I've sorted them I'll be sure to show some of them here Mascha,
DeleteHave a great weekend too.
The coloring book looks beautiful. Coloring can be so relaxing.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your photos. I look forward to seeing them.
It really is incredibly detailed inside Ginny,
DeleteIt's so well produced and beautifully created.
Still lots to do on the photo front but yes I'll certainly be posting some of them soon. (hopefully she says whilst crossing her fingers)
Enjoy your weekend and thanks for visiting my place.
This looks like a treasure. Much more fun to contemplate different colors than to do it. I understand your decision completely. Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan, that's so reassuring knowing others have similar views as me.
DeleteI just love to see the lines and details. I think if I coloured it it would take something away from the designs.
Happy PPF to you and I hope you have a great weekend.
Crivens!! That's a whole passle of photographs you took. I thought I'd done a lot in London when I found I'd done over 200! Lol.
ReplyDeleteAs for your colouring book. I have a few and I haven't coloured any of them, lol. I bought them because I like the lines and seeing the details close up. If I want to colour a drawing, Logan has many books that I could 'steal' something from. He's not a keen colourist so hasn't done many at all. There seems to be humongous amount of adult colouring books out there lately. A strange phenomenon imo. Maybe it's just me and I'm part neanderthal about it. Oh well.
I will be thinking of you, uploading your pics. Take care.
Hugs, Mo xox
Well it is over a time Mo and not just from my last little jaunt away. Wow you did well with over 200 though... I'll look forward to seeing some of those.
DeleteI couldn't bring myself to colour this book because like you I love the line work and details. I think it would loose something if I coloured it.
I'm not sure I could resist other books though. Colouring can be so relaxing.
I'm rather annoyed with myself that I haven't created one because I did think about drawing one over a year ago when they were only just emerging. They are selling by the millions now. Trust me to procrastinate and miss the boat!!!
I'll not mention the weather as the news announces it's the wettest July EVER!
(sigh) oh well let's hope that August proves better. Maybe even a little heat.
I know wishful thinking... but you can live in hope.
Hugs to you too
Oh yes-the adult coloring books are VERY trendy right now-and even Stampington is planning on putting something out in the future! And no wonder you didn't have time for art during your holiday-SO many photos! I always take some art with me with the intention of creating but many times it slips by me too. I hope you'll share some of those photos:)
ReplyDeleteWell I have to confess Linda that the photo's weren't all taken whilst away. But I am an addicted snapper. I'll certainly be showing some of them in the coming weeks though.
DeleteI need to get back to some art work soon... it feels like years since I did any although I'm not quite sure what I'll do first. Maybe a colouring book page?
Have a wonderful weekend.
Nothing wrong with a little self indulgence. Adult colouring books are fun and all the rage right now. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF!
Best wishes,
Liz
Oh I'm not going to colour it in Liz... it's just to look at and use as reference.
DeleteStrange I know... but then that's me ;D
Happy PPF to you too
That coloring book is one I am thinking about buying, but if I do I will color in it! I have not bought any of those coloring books but it sounds relaxing.
ReplyDeleteI've heard nothing but good reports from people who have used them. Especially as a de-stressing tool.
DeleteThis book is so well produced and each page crammed with detail... I'm sure that if you buy it you'll enjoy it immensely.
Have fun and happy PPF to you
Start creating on girl...they are a HOT commodity...everyone is buying adult colouring books to relieve stress and enjoy creativity!! Seriously colouring books are the rage!! So get crackin...yours would be amazing!! Get your daughter to help you market them! This is the ground floor so make it happen!!
ReplyDeleteHugs The bossy encourager!
Now how could I not bossy encourager after those words!
DeleteI've been seriously thinking about it for over a year... can you believe that and with expert procrastination I've nearly missed the boat!
Typical of me though... tail-end Charlie.
Good idea to get my daughter roped in though. She's been telling me to get on it whenever I've mentioned it.
Hugs backatcha and I love your encouragement. Thanks
Ooh where you somewhere nice? Do you know I was just talking about adult colouring books yesterday. I can't believe they've taken off like they have. I eek I've missed a trick as a free years ago when I first did my doodimals someone said I should create a colouring book (at that time assuming it was for children) and I thought it was a good idea then did nothing more about it and now they're everywhere!!
ReplyDeleteThey literally have gone ballistic Nic. I can understand that for someone who can't draw they must be such a help because colouring can be so relaxing. My niece has just bought two of them... apparently the Uni's are promoting them as part of the mindfulness sessions for people who suffer from work related stress.
DeleteAnd if you think about it if you loved to colour when a child... why not as an adult?
Yep I think I missed the boat on this crazy.
I wish I wasn't so proficient in procrastination!
Have a great weekend... enjoy that little bit of sun we're having.
Hopefully it'll stay until September (HA!)
When I first mentioned colouring books in my blog not so long ago many people had not heard of them, but now there are loads of them everywhere. They will be good for some people as a relaxation with colour, but I would get bored after the first few minutes.
ReplyDeleteYes, we always take art materials with us too, but somehow they rarely get used very much, maybe a little.
Hope you manage to find a little sunshine this weekend. We saw the sun today, again!!!!!!!
They certainly seem to have taken quite a hold on the market Sheila,
DeleteI don't think I'd have the patience to colour them... but maybe that shows that I should try because I'm obviously not calm and de-stressed if I don't feel I could do them!
I suppose it would depend on if you were arty and could draw for yourself whether you would want this type of book or not. If you couldn't draw but love to colour I suppose they're ideal.
I did find some sunshine today and I believe there might be some more tomorrow... thanks. I plan to make the most of it if it does arrive.
Enjoy your weekend
Neesie - yeeeeeeessss!!! Your Xentangles and more would be brilliant, do it! I will be your Aussie marketing assistant, there's an offer you can't refuse! I have seen these books also on my travels and was tempted, Can I pre order? I'm in!
ReplyDeleteWren x
Hehehehe... well after reading this comment how could I refuse... I feel I really must or at least give it a go! I'll let you know how I get on so that you can be ahead of the game with your order. Although if you're to be my Aussie marketing assistant I think I could possibly gift you one ;D
DeleteI just love your enthusiasum Wren... Bless you x
Colouring books are a fever here. I have some. I bought them just because of the zentangles and drawings as well. Enjoy yourself, my friend!
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly why I've bought this book Karla,
DeleteI just love the designs and don't feel the need to colour them.
Have fun and enjoy your Sunday evening.
Thanks for visiting my place.
Well I think you definitely should create your own coloring book - as you know I think you are a splendid artist!!
ReplyDeleteSandy xx
I'm thinking about it Sandy... but then I've been thinking about it for a year now.
DeleteNow I HAVE to do something about it! I must be a world champion procrastinator but I'm trying to change.
I've formulated designs in my head now so that's a start. Watch this space as they say... (gulp)
Have a great week and thanks for popping into my place.
If you create a coloring book - I promise to buy it :)
ReplyDeleteAww that's brilliant Marianne... my first order hahaha!
DeleteYou may have quite a wait although I'm giving it serious thought.
You made me smile for the whole of the day when I read you comment.
Thank you so much... I really appreciate it.
Have a great week
Popular in Finland too!
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you buy another book and color that? :)
Coloring, painting, drawing...all very meditative if no pressure to be productive...
Have a good week ahead!
If I bought another book I still wouldn't colour them in. I just like the ink lines and the designs. I would love to create my own... but that's a huge pressure. I've been thinking about doing it for about a year. I just need to get going!
DeleteI hope you have a good week too with lots of creativity.
ah, Ive heard about these books... it looks awesome... this would be the perfect solution when travelling and cant carry much, yet feel like doing some colouring etc... Might look into one!!!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't wait to color in it. It looks intriguing. I had heard about adult coloring books, but didn't know where or if it was a joke. . . well, you know! These days! Blessings, Janet PPF
