Personally, I've never expected any gift to celebrate Valentine's Day, which is possibly just as well because that way I'm never disappointed.
But this week I received a gift that I just didn't expect... from an unexpected source.
Ahh... I thought that might get your attention!
Chocolates are always a winner in my book, but I never expected a box of Belgian Chocolates from a local supermarket!
For FREE
I'd received a note through the post saying that because I was special, I should go along to my local supermarket to collect a box of chocolates.
Well it worked for me... (I'm easily pleased)
Miraculously, I haven't opened them yet because foolishly I decided that I'd paint them first.
What was I thinking?!?!?
I'm always surprised that many times I've chosen to draw or paint something which I think will be relatively easy, only turns out to be incredibly involved and difficult.
What may look like a simple object to paint and a good idea initially, turns into a complex project.
Firstly, painting gold is difficult!
Secondly, detailed lettering is a nightmare.
And thirdly, having to have the willpower not to open the box midway through painting it, took far more willpower than I thought I possessed.
I was going to leave it as a work in progress (as I normally do for PPF) whilst I opened one end... just to test their freshness... but then I thought I'd never manage to repackage them, so had to be firm and resist.
Okay, so now I'm talking about them and have finally finished painting them... I'm off to eat them!

Have a wonderful weekend and I hope to see you again soon.
Lovely work and what a great free gift!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
DeleteIt certainly was a lovely surprise Christine.
The strength!!! I am so impressed. it is always a shocking decision to decide to paint before you consume isn't it... and the lettering would have driven me to the need to sample very early on!!! I think you have handled it amazingly, awesomely, fantabulously, perfectly... xx
ReplyDeleteI KNOW... wasn't I good! I thought you might be impressed.
DeleteThe lettering was a big mistake. When I realised it was a bad decision, I decided to go along the artistic licence route and not add all the intricate details.
Thanks for all of your wonderful words! xx
Lucky you! That's a nice looking box of chocolates. Have you tried them yet? I am impressed you made it long enough to draw the box before opening them. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteI did feel lucky Erika, so much so that I then did the lottery just in case!
DeleteI have to confess that I still haven't opened that particular box because I do have other chocolates. But they'll probably be devoured tonight!
Thanks for popping in to my place and I wish you a wonderful weekend too.
Happy PPF to you
Super art, go on and open them...lol! Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteOkay Clare, tonight's the night. I'll chose a good chick flick to watch and then indulge.
DeleteHappy PPF to you
Wonderful work, such detail. I could not have resisted the temptation to open them.
ReplyDeleteI was pleased that I managed to contain myself, but I must confess I did have other chocolates to munch on whilst painting the box... so maybe I'm not a hero after all.
DeleteEnjoy your weekend
Such a lovely detailed painting. Well done for resisting temptation, although, you nearly gave in. I hope you enjoy them. Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteThankfully I had other chocolate in the house, so I was able to resist them. I have to admit if I did have others I doubt whether I would have been so strong willed.
DeleteI think I might indulge tonight along with a good chick flick!
Happy PPF to you
Well, that was a nice surprise from your local supermarket!! You did a great job both in the painting of a difficult subject and in the not eating your subject until you finished said painting!!
ReplyDeleteWasn't it just Nic, I usually get lots of bits of paper showing deals, but this was different and far more favourable.
DeleteI did indulge in chocolate whilst painting, so I'm not as strong as everyone is believing. When it comes to chocolate and willpower... I'm a damp squid!
Have a wonderful weekend... hopefully not as wet as we are here!
Ok, I am in awe. The perspective is hard enough to paint sans lettering... but you did it - beautifully too! And then there is the (not so) minor detail of...NOT RIPPING THE BOX OPEN! You, my friend, have gained superwoman status in my book.
ReplyDeleteAww Minnemie, thank you.
DeleteYeah it wasn't easy to paint. I'll never learn... I really should think through a subject before I start to paint.
I had such a chuckle at you shouting! But I feel I have to come clean and confess that I did have other chocolate available and I did devour them whilst painting the box.
I'm going to open the box tonight along with watching a good chick flick!
Lovely to have to pop in... have a wonderful weekend.
You are special! and much loved!! Fab art piece now go consume with no guilt! The Girls and I are camped in front of the tv to watch all the NASCAR races this weekend from Daytona. The speedway is only a mile away so I can hear them too! Have a super weekend Neesie! Hugs
ReplyDeleteAww thank you so much Nan,
DeleteI'll be devouring them tonight whilst watching a good chick flick!
I remember when we lived in our first house in
Melbourne, the Grand Prix circuit was quite close and we could both hear and smell the burning rubber from the tyres!
Enjoy your weekend with the NASCAR viewing.
Hugs back to you
I would have had to paint an open box! LOL!
ReplyDeleteAn empty open box eh Rita? (haha)
DeleteI was only able to resist because I had another bar of chocolate to hand!
very nice work :) chocolate is safe in this house, no one eats it lol
ReplyDeleteWHAT? I can't believe that Jennifer, I've never heard anything like it in my life! ;D
DeleteI don't know what I'd do if I didn't have chocolate in the house. I think everyone would run for the hills!
I love it but can't eat it, gives me migraines and hubby has never been a fan lol
DeleteOh well I can understand you not eating chocolate in that case. I don't think men feel the same way about women do when it comes to chocolate!
DeleteYou are strong willed I would say, and such a great painting. I wouldn't even think of painting those letters. Enjoy the sweet bits when it's time.
ReplyDeleteI think it might be time to indulge tonight Laila,
DeleteI was beginning to think I shouldn't have started the letters too, but had to carry on. I'm hopeless at lettering at the best of time.
Actually I don't know if I would had been so diligent and wait for having painted your lovely gift before than eating your chocolates ... I'm so fond of chocolate :) !
ReplyDeleteYour work is so very beautiful, thank you for sharing, dear Neesie !
Have a most beautiful end of your week
sending love to you
Dany
I'm rather fond of chocolate too... so much so that I had to eat a chocolate bar whilst painting this box. That was the only way I could paint it without opening it!
DeleteThank you for your kind words and I wish you a wonderful weekend too
wow that sure is some strong willpower! And well worth it because I think you did a fabulous job drawing that lovely box! PS, don't forget to wipe your fingers before coming back to the PC:):)
ReplyDeleteNot really Linda because I ate another chocolate bar instead whilst painting it.
DeleteI'll be opening the box later whilst watching a good chick flick!
Don't worry I'll make sure that my fingers are clean before coming back here... hehe
GlorV1 has left a new comment on your post "Belgian Chocolates... PPF":
ReplyDeleteThat's a great box. Nice work.
Apologies GlorV1, I messed up your comment and had to post it myself...
DeleteThanks so much for you kind words.
Happy PPF to you
Wow, that's a wonderful piece of art! Now you certainly deserve to devour that whole box of chocolates :-)
ReplyDeleteHehe... thank you denthe... I will indulge asap!
DeleteWhat a beautiful painting, you had impressive self restraint whilst painting such a complex subject! Lovely painting!
ReplyDeleteIt took a lot of restraint I can tell you Lisa... thankfully I had another bar of chocolate on hand to help!
DeleteThank you for your kind words... I really appreciate them.
Stunning stunning stunning...one of your best pieces yet.... is your name TFK....because you could be sisters!! This would make an awesome greeting card!! Now open them and draw a few chocolates too...you could have a series... I think there was so much love that went into this paintings!! I didn't think you could WOW me more...but you have!!
ReplyDeleteHugs Giggles
Aww Giggles thank you so much. It's lovely to hear such high praise. I really appreciate it. I'm also blushing!
DeleteI never thought about a card, but maybe that's an idea. I'm not sure about drawing the chocolates... that might just be a step too far!
I suppose I could just have another bar of chocolate on hand for any emergencies.
I have to admit I do love chocolate, so maybe that helped.
Hugs back to you
OK so now you made my "amazing woman list" LOL Paint the box before opening chocolate. YOU ARE AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA! Wow I'm thrilled to make your list Nicole. At the risk of being deleted from your list after such a short stay... I must confess to you, that I did have another bar of chocolate on hand for emergency purposes.
DeleteHope you have eaten those chocolates now after you captured them beautifully in your sketch.
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF
Vicki-Ann :)
Can you believe that they're still in the fridge Vicki-Ann ... but I'm working my way through a fantastically large bar of chocolate first.
DeleteHappy PPF to you too... although I'm rather late in my reply.
WOW, the personal strength you showed! It's too bad you couldn't bottle that as a perfume and we could all resist chocolate when we needed to. I'm already dreaming of chocolate bunnies and we're not even into March yet. God help me. Hehehe. Much love my friend. Great painting, you rock!
ReplyDeleteI know Jenn, I amaze myself sometimes... only on this occasion I had another bar of chocolate to hand, just as an emergency contingency.
DeleteHey the chocolate bunnies have arrived here, even though we're still having snow flurries!
I'm thinking that spring needs to get it's act together and soon. I'm not finding this amusing at all!
Beautiful and colorful illustration ~ so well done ~
ReplyDeleteHappy Week to you ~ ^_^
Thank you Carol,
DeleteHappy week to you too
Wow that's generous and you have great self restraint! Love the drawing, must be really hard to draw with all those angles
ReplyDeleteHugs
Donna xxx
It turned out to be far more challenging than I first thought Donna, but I persevered. I'm quite pleased with the outcome considering.
DeleteHugs back to you and I hope you have a great week
Love it!! And, what is better than chocolate? Happy PPF :)
ReplyDeleteErm... let me think Tammie, what's better than chocolate?
DeleteHmm this might take some time... it's a toughie.
Happy belated PPF to you.
What a great sketch, Neesie. Very well done. Now, when you DO open the box, be sure to share the chocolates! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat chocolates Alexandra? (hehe)
DeleteThere's no chocolates here! ;D
How lovely! Oh Belgian chocolate--I could go for some right now. Very nice job! Now enjoy. xo
ReplyDeleteAww what a shame Dea... they've all gone! Chocolate doesn't tend to last long around here!
