Lion Dog... PPF and Sunday Sketches

How on earth can it be Friday?
I'm sure there are three Friday's in one week or at least that's what it seems.

Once again I am having a play and experimenting with my art.
I really think if only I could just settle into a certain style or meme.
(I am involved in a project that I hope to share at some stage with you all, but for now I can't post about it).
So I decided to play yesterday and what better than to play with Muffin!
She had been having such fun in the garden during the afternoon and had me in stitches especially when she decided to gruff and talk to me.
Thankfully, she's never been one for barking, but on occasions she does.
The trouble was that when she started the sound echoed around our garden and she suddenly became aware of another dog barking!
Or that's what she thought.
But it was in fact her echo... it was hilarious!
This photo was taken a little while ago when the sun was actually shining.
We have had rain every day for over a week now.
Heaven knows where our summer has gone.

Anyway... back to art.
I thought I'd try once again to draw Muffin.
I've tried before without success... so don't laugh... here yet another attempt.
I decided to use black paper and Derwent Inktense Pencils.
She is what I would normally describe as a blonde dog, but that's okay for me to say because I'm also blonde, but today she showed a rather cunning side to her character.
I've mentioned before that we have doves appear each day and on occasion she has been known to dash out of the door at full pelt and chase them.
Never getting near, so I've never been worried about the doves welfare... but today was different.
Here's a YouTube video that my son took.

Now I know why they are called 'Lion Dogs'
Where did she learn to stalk!

And lastly, I hope you don't mind if I indulge in a little parental pride and show you my daughter's latest venture.
She has created posters and flyers for the 'Plague of Idiots' who are performing shows in this years Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The lettering has been hand drawn.
If you are in Edinburgh and want to see a great show then nip along and see the Plague of Idiots... you'll not be disappointed!
Once again, I'll hopefully be linking up with Kristin and Eva over at Paint Party Friday if I'm not too late. Thanks ladies for hosting such an inspirational link.
I'm also linking up for week 3 of Alexandra's Sunday Sketches from the UK.

Alexandra has moved over from the US to England for a temporary period and she wanted her link to Sunday Sketches to reflect that it is being hosted from England.
She had a competition to design a logo to reflect the move and I'm thrilled to say she picked my design.

Please tap on the logo in my side bar to nip across to see lots of Alexandra's brilliant illustration work, but also lots of other artists work too.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone
Hope to see you again soon

  1. What fun pieces your daughter created, and what a great drawing of your Muffin. It is as adorable as she is. How funny about the echoes. I think one of the good things about having a dog (among many) is they can make you laugh. Sorry about the rain. You can send some across the pond our way as we are having a drought, and we live in a pretty wet area. Right now it is SO hot and humid and dry. I live north because I don't like this weather. Have a wonderful weekend Denise. :) Hugs-Erika

    1. Ahhh... so that's why we are having so much rain Erika, we're having you rain too. I'll try to send some your way because I've really had enough.
Muffy is a constant source of entertainment and has been for all of her 12 years!
I hope your weekend is fun packed and cool too ;D

    1. Muffy has been the only dog we've ever owned, but when she came to join our family I never thought for one minute that she would give so much enjoyment, fun and pure love.
I'm not sure I could cope with two lions! ;D

  5. It looks like Muffin to me. :)
I got a kick out of Muffin stalking the doves. Karma stalks the birds beyond the screen--actually, mostly the ground squirrels now.
Love the posters your daughter made!! :)

    1. Aww thanks Rita, you are too kind.
I should have mentioned for everyone to watch until the end. She really is hilarious and I certainly wouldn't let her near if I thought she could harm them. They're been visiting daily for about two years now. They even sit on the decking chairs looking in at me to let me know that they have arrived and are wanting breakfast!

  6. You have every reason to be proud - your daughter's posters are wonderful!
Now for Miss Muffin - I love her - look at that cute little nose.
I see she has a sneaky side - who would have guessed. She always looks so innocent! Love your drawing!

    1. Aww thanks Sandy, I'll pass on your comment to my daughter. She's here for the weekend.
Oh you would be a gonna if you met muffin face to face, because even after 12 years she can reduce me to jelly. I try to be stern with her when I need to, but she only has to give me a look and then I'm soft as putty!
Sneaky! Oh yes she can definitely work things to what she wants. Devious I'd say especially if there's chicken involved!

  7. Oh my McMuffy is so darn cute the wait she's stalking. Aha, the doves must of seen as they moved behind the the tree. Tehe....not as stealthy as she thinks. :) Cool drawing! Looks just like Muffin to me. Fantastic lettering on the posters. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs

    1. McMuffy lives in a fantasy world Nan. She thinks she's far bigger, faster and fiercer than she truly is. It's a shame (hehe) I'm not going to burst her bubble though.
Thank you for your kind words about my drawing and the posters.

    1. Do you Jennifer, it's a struggle for me. I do remember heat from Melbourne and the Middle East, but Aberdeenshire isn't even tepid!
I did know that before coming back, but this summer has really been the worst I've known. I really need an Indian summer before we say hello to autumn.

  9. Bless her heart, she did get close. I think your drawing looks wonderful. I can't draw so I impressed when others can. Like your daughter. She is a fantastic artist. You have a right to brag and be proud of her. It appears to be a family trait. You, your sister, daughter, etc. Can't wait to see what you have been working on. Have a good weekend. Pam Carter

    1. I was beginning to get worried Pam, because I certainly wouldn't want her to catch them... although I really don't know what she would do if she did. She'd be in shock I think! They certainly know her and what she is capable of.
Aww thank you so much for your kind words about the artwork. It's always great to get positive feedback.

  11. "Bring me sunshine, bring me joy" well at least if you haven't got the first you've got the second! From top stalker dog, filmed by your son - loved the "go get 'em…" comment at the end for a dramatic finish, and luckily for all she didn't!! And then the mother -daughter artistic talents it clearly runs in the family. You've done really well with Muffin and a Plague of Idiots looks fantastic - great posters!
Here's to some sunshine for you for next week!

    1. I've had that song going on in my head since I first read your comment Wren! I was thinking some readers might not like the comment "Go get 'em" but we know she'd never manage to catch them. They know her so well now, even though she's upped her game with the stalking!
Thanks for your kind words on the artwork.
We've seen some sunshine first thing this morning (enabling us to have an alfresco breakfast) and just an hour or so a little while ago. We just need to get the rest of the day sorted now... before autumn comes to call!

  12. That stalking video really cracked me up. When you yelled and he took off after the birds it was so funny. Boy, did he take off like lightening! Your daughter's posters are wonderful. Is the Fringe Festival a part of the big Edinburg Festival we saw two times? I am really impressed with the way your painting came out. I think it is awesome. Those pens look wonderful. genie

    1. I thought it was hilarious too genie. I have to say that that voice isn't mine...it's rather lower than mine... it was in fact my son's (hehe)
She can move extremely quickly when she wants to. Not bad for an old girl as she's 12 years old!
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is one of the many festivals that are held during August. The city is buzzing with so many things on the go at the moment.
Thank you so much for your kind words on the artwork.

  13. Well if Muffy wasn't the hot topic today amusing me so much! That adorable tongue, glad you captured it in your beautiful portrait of her... I have such an affinity for little white dogs that I can't help but love her...the fact that she visits my instagram posts gives her top billing! Love how the doves ambled away nonchalantly, knowing full well she was in the wings. Taking flight just as she approached...such cheeky birds!! A really fun video!! LOVE your daughters unique and whimsical posters too...what a good job! I love them so much!! "A" plus for this post...such great variety and a little white dog too!! You made my day! Thank you!!

Thank you so much for your visit and I'm cuffed I got an 'A' plus... it's been quite some time since my last one!
I'll have to see if I can maintain this level of blog posts (hehe)
