Today 'My Sunday Photo' comes with a warning... you will possibly need a head for heights this week.
This tiny spiral staircase leads to the top of Craigievar Castle parapet.
Mind your head as you come through the tiny wee door at the top... but I can assure you that it will all be worth it.
The great tower stands just as it did when completed in 1626.
I'm not sure that this photo gives you the correct perspective, but we had climbed up four floors to reach this point.
Now how is that for a view?
The air is so clear and crisp... just perfect.
I'm in the process of editing some photo's of the Castle, so hopefully in a day or so I might actually be ready to post them.
In the meantime... have fun and enjoy your weekend.
What stunning views from the top of the castle. I have to admit I feel a bit dizzy just looking at the spiral staircase!
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed Louise, and well worth the climb although one particular visitor was very nervous going up and down.
DeleteThe views look completely beautiful. We did one of these windy spiral staircases when we went up the Wallace monument. You feel like you might fall but (hopefully) I think it's hard to do!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the staircase is so narrow, it probably would be difficult to fall from top to bottom, plus with a few people on the staircase at once you probably would land on someone!
DeleteI haven't been to the Wallace monument (yet)
What beautiful views - and that spiral staircase looks so tight! I hope it was easy to get down.
ReplyDeleteI've been up and down the tightest and largest spiral staircase in two separate castles over the last week or so. There is so much history around us that we need to appreciate here.
DeleteYou would need to be wearing decent shoes to get up that staircase!
ReplyDeleteWell worth it for those views though.
I was well prepared... I wore trainers for all eventualities.
DeleteIt was certainly worth the climb though. The views were stunning.
Wow, great shots Neesie. You are a lot braver than me, it looks scary up there x
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy, it really wasn't too bad because it was so narrow.
DeleteAmazing views and a gorgeous looking castle
ReplyDeleteIt is a stunning place and the guide we had to take us around and fill us in on the historical details was a lovely lady called Evelyn. She had been there for 53 years conducting tours!
DeleteIt was certainly worth the climb up the tiny spiral staircase.
It made you wonder how the ladies of the castle would have managed with their large hooped dresses!
The climb was definitely worth it for the view. Beautiful! #mysundayphoto
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed Catie... especially when the sun came out!
DeleteWow what incredible views. That staircase looks a narrow thing to climb.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up
Aren't they just Darren. See what lengths I go to to bring the My Sunday Photo gang something different! (hehe)
DeleteClimbing castles no less!
Thanks for hosting and I hope you have a great week off work.
Fantastic photos. I don't have a head for heights. You're braver than I am. hehehe
ReplyDeleteI thought I might have had an 'ebbygeebee' moment Kim, but it was fine. Maybe because the parapet wall was waist height! Anyway, I am glad I got up there. It was stunning!
DeleteAs always so interesting!
ReplyDeletesandy xx
I'm so glad to hear that Sandy. I do think about trying to make everyone's visit worthwhile. I'm not sure I always manage that... but then you can't please all of the people all of the time ;D
DeleteAmazing view and so worth climbing the stairs for! #mysundayphoto
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed worth the climb. We didn't actually climb all the stairs in one go, so it wasn't that bad. We had stopped off on each floor to have a look around.
DeleteMagnificent view and fabulous photos, although I did feel a little dizzy looking over the side (Oooh errr), lol The spiral staircase reminds me of the one in our local Nelson's Tower ~ 99 steps according to Wee Man ~ Yikes!
ReplyDeleteI have done the no=reply thingy again, courtesy of Jenn, (Many thanks for the link), and hope it works this time. xoxo
Oooh errr indeed Mo (hehe)
DeleteAll worthwhile on such a fine day though.
Now why didn't I think to count all of the steps like Wee Man. You know what this means don't you? I'm going to have to go back to count them. We did actually stop at each floor, so I never gave it a thought. I know that last floor up to the battlements had 40 steps, because the lovely guide 'Evelyn' told us so.
I'm so sorry about the no-reply comment, but it's maybe because you have a yahoo email address. I'm not sure how I can change that... Maybe if there's someone out there reading this comment and they know, they might let us know.
such a wonderful view! why does all the nice views have to have evil stairs? :p
ReplyDeleteI can assure you Jennifer, that the stairs weren't evil. In fact they were really good! ;D
DeleteThey were definitely worth climbing to reach that view...especially with the sun shining!
stairs and me don't mix very well lol half way up I'd probably be done and have to sit down :p
DeleteLoved your pictures this week. I have walked up many stairs like these during my trip across the pond and they are a bit eerie. I found that if I could just keep on walking up and ignoring my claustrophobic feelings that the view - just like this one - was well worth the effort. Great shots. genie
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean genie, because I get claustrophobic tendencies too, but I never listened to that inner voice... I just focused on how brilliant they were, how it might have been living back in the day, how the ladies would manage to climb them in their large hooped dresses, and that there was to be a fantastic view, on a gorgeous summer day waiting for us!
DeleteIt worked!
Beautiful views from the top! I fear I'd never make it up there due to the tightness of the staircase. Something I must learn to overcome!
DeleteAs I've mentioned before Bev there was a lady who thought she couldn't climb either up or down the staircase, but with our reassurances she gave it a go... and was thrilled and happy that she conquered her fear. Her reward was the stunning views!
DeleteHow wonderful, who doesn't love a castle? Rebecca
ReplyDeleteWell indeed Rebecca... in fact I've visited two just recently!
DeleteWhat a unique little stairwell - stunning views! Visiting castles is always an interesting experience.
ReplyDeleteOver the last week or so Jade, I've visited two castles... one with this tiny staircase and one with the largest staircase which reportedly enabled horse to ride up it! Mind boggling!
DeleteStunning shots and wonderful place, dearest Denise, thank you for this delight !
ReplyDeleteHope your week is off to a god start I'm sending my dearest love to you
Xx Dany
Thank you Dany, I'm glad you liked the post. Like me I know that you like history too.
DeleteLove the view from the top and those high angles. What a great place to explore and take photos in. Thank you for linking up with "Through My Lens"

Unfortunately with the castle being part of the National Trust of Scotland they don't allow photographs to be taken inside, but I do have lots of the castle, which I hope to share soon.
DeleteThanks for hosting once again Mersad. I hope you are having a great week and thanks for popping over to my space.
