In my Friday post I featured the Agapanthus, so to keep the balance I need to mention the lavender plants that share the same border.
When we last lived here, there were lots of lavender plants in this particular border, but they had become woody, so I decided to plant new ones to replace them.
I must have planted over 25 new plants, which as you can see has thrilled not only me, but also the visiting bees.
My hubby (a potential future bee keeper) has been keeping a close eye and counting them after hearing the buzzing whilst gardening.
(I know... but he's newly retired so there's time for such activities... at least he hasn't created a spreadsheet... well not yet as far as I know).
The highest number he has counted so far, at one particular count reached 16!
I'm happy that the bees are happy... plus the wonderful lavender aroma if you happen to touch them as you walk past, is enough to knock your socks off!
As usual I'm linking up with Photalife
I'd just like to take a moment to thank everyone who takes the time to visit my place, especially if you leave a comment.
I really appreciate it.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend... whether you are busy as a bee or lounging among the lavender.
Enjoy
snap on our photos this week. Made me smile that we linked up next to each other too!
ReplyDeleteSnap indeed Fiona, I had a chuckle when I saw our photo's :D
DeleteLove seeing bees on lavender and what fabulous close-ups you managed to get - the detail on their wings is amazing :-)
ReplyDeleteI do too Louise,
DeleteIt took quite a few photo's to get this collection. They were very busy bees!
Beautiful photos Neesie, bees are such wonderful insects to watch x
ReplyDeleteThank Cathy, I love to see so many bees visiting our garden. It's a priviledge
DeleteBeautiful captures, I love watching bees at work
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up
I've only just found out that over a summer bees only live on average about 40 days! No wonder they're in a hurry!
DeleteI hope your week has started well and thanks for hosting.
Amazing bee photos. I watched one the other day for ages and he really wasn't bothered I was there. He just went about his business, working away!
ReplyDeleteGenerally I don't think they're not interested in us unless we're wearing a bright colour... then it's only to see if we have pollen. If you think about it, they only have about 40 days to live, so why would they waste time with us!
DeleteI love both lavender and agapanthus, and have both in my front garden. Enjoy the flowers of summer, have a fabulous week, and thank you so much for stopping by my blog last week.
ReplyDeleteWe are having a few really good days at the moment Jill, so I am fully appreciating the garden. I hope your week is going well too.
DeleteHave fun.
Your photos are gorgeous
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol. I had a lovely time relaxing time watching the bees being busy.
DeleteI have a thing about bees and wasps in real life so I'd never get close enough to get a fantastic picture like that--even with a zoom--LOL! But I love to see close up pics of them. Safest way to see bees--LOL! ;)
ReplyDeleteAww that's a shame Rita, because I hate to tell you that they really wouldn't be bothered with you or want to harm you in any way. If they come near it's only to check if you are a flower and have pollen. Bees only live approx 40 days during a summer, so they are on a very tight schedule!
DeleteI'm happy that you liked seeing my bees up close and personal.
And I love the bees - they are so important to our world. I think they have the cutest, fattest and fluffiest bottoms!
ReplyDeleteTell your husband to go for it. My husband has been retired a year now. He seems happy so that's a good thing!
Sandy xx
I couldn't imagine a world without bees Sandy... and I totally agree with you about their cuteness. Hubby's best count to date is 21 and that's in the lavender alone!
DeleteI was so surprised to read that during summer they only last approx 40 days! We really do need to do what we can for these important creatures.
Hubby happily out on his cycle ride this morning, so I have a few hours... phew... you can't hear my relief can you?
OMGOSh you killed me when you mentioned spreadsheet. I have always called my hubby the spreadsheet KING... he'll make a spreadsheet for anything... lol working or at home..so when you said spreadsheet i just had to laugh..Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteNow this is serious Deb, we must never, EVER let our hubby's communicate. Can you imagine the mayhem that would ensue with them comparing spreadsheets? I think you may have a contender for the title 'KING' because has your hubby ever created a spreadsheet for everything that's up in the eve space of the garage? Colour coded too?!!!?!
DeleteI use to have potted levender plant in our terrace but it died. Before we have bees visiting us too and its kinda lobely that we dont have them this summer. #mysundayphoto
ReplyDeleteI think that's a good reason for getting a replacement potted lavender... besides you'll be doing your bit for the bee population, which is very important just now.
DeleteI can't imagine my place not having bees :(
I love lavender as well. We have it in our garden and the scent is so great. Thank you for linking in with "Through My Lens"

I tend to forget the lavender is there, until I hear the bees buzzing or brush past it and the perfume nearly knocks me out. Gorgeous!
DeleteThanks for providing such a great link up. I hope you're having a great week.
I wish people would stop killing bees when they see them and freak out :( without them we would be in trouble
ReplyDeletelove lavender in small doses, makes me sneeze :p
I feel the same way Jennifer... I try to explain that the bees aren't interested in them, they are only checking to see if they have pollen (in their bright colours) but all the waving and flapping about doesn't help. I mean they only survive approximately 40 days given any one summer, so why would they be interested in us! They're on a mission.
DeleteLavender is quite powerful so I can imagine it might make you sneeze. My two have hay fever, but aren't bothered thankfully by lavender or any of the other blooms I have. I think there's is more of an allergy to grasses.
I had bees buzzing around my head all the time when my hair was bright pink, as long as I was calm they went away with no problems.
Deletemore likely to get stung flapping arms around
grass allergies are pretty common and can be pretty bad
16 bees, that's awesome! The lavendar looks lovely and I can almost smell the aroma through the photos!
