Spot The Wildlife

As I enjoyed my morning cuppa whilst gazing out of the window, I became aware of one of our neighbours. Someone else was enjoying the beautiful warm morning sunshine.
I'm not sure you'll immediately see the subject of My Sunday Photo in this photograph below, as he was quite a distance... even for my zoom lens.
Right in the centre of the shot is Mr Fox!
His winter coat is quite spectacular and he's a handsome, healthy looking chap.
He's obviously a very good hunter by the look of his physique... he's certainly not managing on scraps by the look of him.
Now I'm not saying that this particular fox is the one that nearly took our Annie away, as I have seen two foxes playing in the field, but I certainly hope this one keeps his distance... even if it means My Sunday Photo has to suffer.
I'd much rather that than losing one of my chooks!

My elderly neighbour had mentioned that she'd got some more chickens (about 12 in total) but 'someone' had been taking them? I didn't have the heart to tell her that it probably wasn't a 'someone'... more a 'something'!

I have cropped the photo so that it'll make it easier to see him.
He certainly knew I was taking his picture as he looked directly at me.
The click of the camera travelled right across the field, blowing my cover!
I managed to take a few shots where he had his eyes closed, enjoying the rays.
It was the perfect perch for him... on the raised grassy mound.
It enabled him to enjoy the sun, but also to see all around.
Well it was perfect until a dog came mooching along...then Mr Fox slunk away into the ferns and that was the last I saw of him for the rest of the day.

    1. Thanks Louise, yep he spotted me but as I said he was quite a way off so wasn't bothered. I was able to snap a few photos but this one was the best of the bunch.
      Have a great Sunday :D

    1. I watched a fox (whether it was him or not I can't say) catch what I think was a rabbit and devour it! It was one of those moments when you are both horrified and amazed... wanting to tear your eyes away but unable to. Nature in the raw!

    1. He had certainly picked a great advantage place to relax and enjoy the sun's warmth. He was able to see all the fields around, but had a fence to keep any dogs away that might have been having adventures in the woods behind him. Very clever!
Thanks for hosting MSP once again :D

  4. Great photo Neesie - I have such mixed feelings about Foxes they are so beautiful to look at but....!
Hope he stays away for your chocks sakes.
    Have a lovely week.

    1. I know exactly what you mean by that 'but' and totally agree with you. I know having watched them just how efficient they can be in the art of predation!
I've been keeping a watchful eye and saw him wandering the field, but thankfully didn't come near.
I hope you have a great week too before your gallivanting once again. Have fun! :D

    1. He has a fantastic coat and markings Carol. He looks a fine specimen and I'm sure all the ladies are going to be impressed with him in spring!

  6. He is certainly a handsome chap alright! You've got a good eye to be able to spot him from such a distance! I was just looking at your hot air ballon post. I like your water color painting. Hope your Sunday is sunny and warm. Hugs

    1. It's amazing just how something different can jump out at you when you are so used to looking at the same view. It shows how many hours I waste gazing out of the window or sitting on the decking...instead of drawing/painting!
No warm and sunny here Nan... although we have seen some sun there's an arctic wind blowing and there's talk of the first snow flurries soon. Brr...roll on spring! :D

  7. He's a gorgeous little thing isn't he? Although probably not so little if he's feasting off 12 chickens, eek. Hope he keeps his distance now x

    1. I think he'd be quite a size. Looking at him from that distance he's still quite a size. I think probably like a largish dog as in Springer Spaniel?
I don't want to wish any bad will on my neighbour, but I really hope he stays up that end of the field and woods than coming down where our girls live.

  8. Yes, he's probably staying plump on the neighbors chickens! Handsome fellow. :)

    1. I love this view and that's why I possibly spend far too more hours gazing out there instead of being productive.
Have a great week whatever is on your plan.

    1. Actually Jane I didn't... he was well settled and actually rested there for quite some time. If I'd have thought it through and been a little more nimble I'd have perhaps climbed over the fence and taken more shots just to see how near I could get to him before he took off!

  11. Great shot. We quite often see foxes skulking around the fields. Thankfully we've now got puppies which are taken into the field for walks, so I think they're scarying away the foxes as I've not see any for a while. They've been spotted on the motion cameras in the pheasant game strips. They tend to instinctively know where the cameras are because quite often they'll be photographed looking right at the camera.

    1. We have a night camera too Emma and we've seen a fox looking right back through the lens at us. It must be the activation or red light that gets their attention. He's been in our garden once in the daytime, to try to take Annie (one of our chickens) but I suppose he's feeling braver now that we no longer have our fur baby here.

  12. I was able to spot him, although if you hadn't mentioned that there was a critter to spot, I would surely have missed him.

  14. So cute! Not sure why animals get out to take a sunbath in the morning. I am a fan of foxes! There was one on a park close to where I used to work.

  15. Oh what a beautiful fox. Love the way he is looking straight at you. Hope he stays away from the chickens though!
