Blorange...Blue and Orange blended!

If anyone was to ask me what my favourite colour was, I'd instantly say 'cobalt blue'...but that's not strictly true because if I think about it a little more, I realise I like a wide range of blues such as aqua, turquoise, robin egg, sky, royal blue, sapphire, indigo, teal, baby blue, Persian blue, navy, peacock, electric blue...hmm the list grows the more I think about it. So maybe I should answer the question by just saying my favourite colour is 'blue'!
On the other hand one of my least favourite colours happens to be orange. Now I really feel for orange because it's never done anything wrong or ever offended me...it's just we don't have that same connection that I have with blue.
I'm afraid it's not only the colour...I don't like to eat oranges or drink orange juice!
Why? I cannot say...I just don't! Never have....
So when Jenn over at Just Add Water Silly chose 'BLORANGE' for this week's Artist Play Room
I had mixed feeling. I mean my favourite colour mixed with my least?!?!
How was this going to work?
It's like asking my son to become friends with the hoover (vacuum)! It's a tough ask!
But who's going to refuse Jenn? Certainly not me...
So after a little procrastinating (I'm a natural) I dived right in to see where it would lead....

I'm aware I'm probably playing with your mind here (Mmmmwwwaaaahhhhhhaaaa) but I have to admit it it was rather fun. I thought I'd make the orange blue perhaps just a twist on the 'blood oranges' (with their red flesh) which by the way just happen to be my hubby's favourite.
I also took it one step further by mixing the blue actually with orange, for the leaves and the shadow.
I'm not sure why but this photo is nothing like the original.
The original has such an intensity that I prefer, but the above looks rather anaemic. :-(
Maybe it's orange getting its own back on me for being so unkind.

I thought I might feel differently if an orange happened to be a blue colour, but I'm afraid I still don't like oranges no matter what colour they are....oh now I feel I've got a personal vendetta against the poor defenceless fruit. Shame on me!
Have a great day everyone and I hope to see you again soon...I'd miss you if you didn't pop by https://secure.quebles.com/content/hotmail/emoticons/1511760.gif

  1. Firstly, thanks for putting up the FEATURING shout out, hopefully everyone posting about it will increase our readership. Second, Holy COW, what a gorgeous painting/drawing. Mom went NUTS when she saw it, she loves it and that's after we laughed and laughed about your post. (Don't tell Trace but I'm with you about orange, just not my color). I like only very specific oranges, the fruit I mean. I only like the HUGE ones you get for a couple weeks in the summer, oh, and the mandarins for a couple weeks at christmas. Don't love the juice usually. My body doesn't like that much sugar all at once without fiber with it, lol.
Anyway, i love your piece and if that's anemic, I can't even imagine the beauty of the original. You have such a wonderful original style, don't ever change my sweet friend!
    hugs,
    Jenn

    1. My pleasure Jenn, I wish you well with FEATURING because I know how hard and dedicated you are towards the magazine ;D

Personally, I only like to stick cloves into mandarins at Christmas...oh dear it does sound like I have a problem doesn't it?

I'm serious about how pale the photo has come out and I did try numerous times to retake it to see if I could sort it...but nah! It's definitely anaemic, which is very annoying.

Thank you for your lovely comment on my original style because I get annoyed with it and want to change...maybe I shouldn't and just let it evolve.
By the way...I have always loved your Mum the bestest! :D)))

Have a fantastic Friday and an even better weekend.
Thanks so much for hosting the APR. It's really pushing my art and that means so much to me.

  3. I do so love a sideways thinking approach to a subject, and you really have it here. The blue orange looks just riight somehow, and I lovedvthe shadows whichbI could tell was your blorange mix and also so right.
The dotted textures add to it all and the whole composition makes a lovely image.
Like you I found the colours just did not come up as bright on the screen.
Thanks for your nice comments. Looking forward to the next APR challenge.

    1. Oh I'm very good at sideways thinking Jez in fact I don't think I'm capable of straight thinking! It certainly feels like that sometimes. LOL
Yes, I liked the dots too but my eyes didn't...I certainly had spots before my eyes when I'd finished.
It is annoying when the photo doesn't show the artwork in it's true light but then what can you do?
Thanks for popping over to my place...it's great to see you.
Have a great weekend whatever you have planned. :D

I'm trying to think of something that is well known to everyone so that you would know the intensity of the colours, but I can't think of anything....typical! ;D

      Have a wonderful weekend ~ enjoy :D

  9. I love, love, love your blue orange. I'd hang it on my wall. What a great job you did. I don't think you hurt the oranges feelings after all.

As for the color.. I scanned mine & it looks more red than orange. Maybe orange doesn't photo well??

  10. This looks so fabulous on the screen, I'd love to see the original. The colours are so vibrant that you just have to keep looking at it, I love it. I have the same trouble with photos and scans. I can take a hundred photos and still not get it anywhere near the original but printing is worse. My blues come out green and red is orange, drives you nuts doesn't it. I don't like to eat oranges either they bring out mouth ulcers in me.
I'm a blue lover but my favourite is French Ultramarine blue. If you can find a way to get kids to like hoovers let me know cos I can't find one!

I can't say why I don't like orange (although that sounds a little harsh) let's say I just don't like them as much as others...maybe that's a better way of saying it.
No luck with the hoover so far but I'll keep you posted if things change.
Have a wonderful weekend. Weather here is perfect...fresh but bright and sunny! We're expecting high 20's today and tomorrow so that suits me.
      See you soon xoxo

I do feel guilty about the colour quandary and can honestly say when I see the colours together especially when it's someone elses work I love it...it's just me I think. An oddball I know!

Have a fantastic weekend whatever you have planned. Enjoy! :D

I wish I could send a blood orange across to you...I think they'd do you the world of good right now, although I'd have to make sure my hubby didn't see me. He's adored them since a child when he first arrived here in Australia and tried one for the first time.

It was funny after reading your comment yesterday I then saw an article in a magazine about blood oranges! They appear to be everywhere just now.
Take care, rest up and get well soon. :D

  13. Now here's a philosophical question for you, Neesie: are Oranges called Oranges because they are orange-coloured fruits, or is the colour orange so called because it is the colour of Oranges?? (Chicken and Egg?)

    1. Oh Mark, I read your comment just before I went to snoozeyland last night and then you set my mind working!
I thought about the colour green...and maybe that's why golf courses call their grass 'greens' but then why don't we call our lawns greens! Hmm...it is a tricky one.
You're so t'elligent I know you'll know the answer, so I'll wait for you to tell me (LOL) ;D

  15. this is 100% Neesie. great way you found round this challenging relationship. I've loved oranges forever, but haven't enJOYed one in, ummmmmmm, a really long time. mayBE it was 2010?? but somewhere along the way we parted, on friendly terms, but just moved on.

of course, that is NOT entirely true as I make a salad with mandarins in it, and living in Florida, you'd think... but I fell for mangoes hard last summer, so I DO think that might well BE a way round your sticky troubles... am I correct in remembering you, too, love those luscious babies?!

I DO love how you've taken this on, though. so clever and fun. xoxo

    1. Hi Currie,
100% Neesie...oh wow. So it appears I may have something here, a certain style, although I've been trying to get away from it for a while. I'd like to be a little more serious with the art that I produce but it always ends up being whimsical and fun.

You remember correctly...mangoes are a big hit here and I often have a jug of homemade mango smoothy in the fridge. Hmmm...now there's a thought I'll have to go and make one for this weekend.
Thanks so much for popping by...I've got a busy weekend so maybe a little late visiting but I'll get there don't worry. Can't wait to see your interpretation of 'blorange'.
      Have fun! :D
