Happy Blue Monday...weekend away

When the day starts off like this then you know it's going to be a special day!
We've been away for the weekend...and yes I know I didn't tell you, but it was rather a sudden decision, so I hope you'll forgive me.
We nipped across the boarder down into England to see family and friends.
The drive down (which takes 6 hours) is a fantastic reminder of why we love the UK.
We've done this journey for many years, but there's always something new to see.
Every season has it's own display and this autumn was a real treat indeed.
The trees have only just put on their autumn colours and everything has a Midas touch about it...gold everywhere.
We're certainly rich in spectacular scenery here.
As we stopped for the obligatory bathroom break, we suddenly became aware of a gazillion birds take off into the air from the nearby fields.
Then as they came nearer it became quite clear that they were geese and very excited to be on their way!

I couldn't possibly guess just how many there were, but they kept flying over for about five minutes. We just stood in wonder.
It was a fantastic sight.
It's an indication that winter will be coming to call soon.
But that will be for another day...we're off to have fun with family!
And that's just what we did...we had so much fun and we were spoilt wonderfully.
I spent quality time with my sister and I'm not going to divulge too much information here but I don't think I've laughed so much for months!
So much so that at times we needed to hang on to furniture or anything that was nearby for support and at one point I was concerned that my lunch might revisit.
It really is good medicine but care should be taken in and only given in reasonable doses!

So I'll show you that although it was a mad frantic weekend crammed to the gunnels with activities there were brief calm times too.
This was one of those times just sitting watching and appreciating my nephews fish tank.
I find it mesmerizing.
This is just one small part of it and I have a great video which I'll try to post once I find some suitable music to accompany it.
Because it's Monday and this is such a gorgeous blue I'm linking up with Sally and her Blue Monday gang. Why don't you pop across and check out the blogs from all over the world...it really is a treat.
I think I need another few sessions staring into the fish tank to recover from the weekend but that's not going to happen.
The builders in and as usual there's masses to do so I must get a wriggle on.

I'll leave you with the sun going down on yet another special weekend.
I hope you had a great weekend too.
What did you get up to?
Anything exciting or just relaxing to recharge the batteries?
Or maybe you're in middle of the Halloween preparations?
I'd love to hear all about it...so don't be shy https://secure.quebles.com/content/hotmail/emoticons/1511763.gif
Let's have a natter...I'll pop the kettle on!
Happy Blue Monday to you all.
Smiling Sally

  2. What a nice trip you had. I can see that you had many gorgeous blue skies to view. I'm sure your sister enjoyed the visit as much as you.

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hello Sally,
It was a fantastic trip...but unfortunately all too short.
We tend to spoil each other when we do get-together, which is wonderful.
We always have a giggle and the years just melt away ;D

I'm happy to share and thanks for hosting such a great idea.
Happy Blue Monday to you too

    1. Hi there,
It was a wonderful weekend thanks Laurie and something that I hope we'll repeat regularly now that we live nearer each other.
Six hours is nothing to when we were in Australia is it?

It's great to see you by the way.
Thanks for popping over...I'll visit you soon.
      Take care

I don't think I'll be awake for long tonight, although I had hoped to visit you and everyone else in the Blue Monday gang ;D

  7. The geese were probably looking down at you lot on the motorway and saying to each other "Just look at all those humans heading South for the Winter"! :) Glad you had such an enjoyable time with your family. My (only) brother lives just down the street from me - literally about 200 metres - so a family meeting doesn't require too much migration.

    1. I think you might be right there Mark...the geese did sound like they were laughing!
I can't imagine only living 200 metres away from either my sister or brother. I feel we're pretty close now after being 12,000 miles apart.
A six hour drive is very do-able and we didn't need passports either ;D

Have a great week and thanks for stopping by :D

  8. The patterns in the sky of the migrating birds are so beautiful to me. I can stare at them for hours! The underwater photos are stunning. Have started posting on my wordpress blog (even though my blogspot blog still will be visitble for some time). Just in case you don't have my address It is an http:// of course. Jeannettestgermain(dot)wordpress(dot)com I did it this way so it's didn't become a link within a link, which gives problems for some blogs. Have a great week - hope the storm in Eur. has finished raging, and you and yours are okay.

    1. We did stand and stare but got quite a few funny looks ourselves. I just have to stop and appreciate nature and can't understand people who just don't get it!
I've nipped over to your blog and left a comment, so hopefully it will work.
Good luck with settling into your new home on Wordpress ;D

We didn't feel the full brunt of the storm up here in Scotland, but the wind has been strong today and it's very fresh. Thankfully the sun's accompanying it too, so it's bright!
      Have a great week xoxo

I've got a great little video of the fish but need to put some music to it...so it's an ongoing project.
Have a great week and hopefully you'll feel at home in Wordpress soon xoxo

  10. A good visit with family is the best medicine. So is laughter. I would love to drive to the UK for the weekend but we would have to cross the big pond first. Smile.

The geese must have been awesome. Winter is on it's way but I too am enjoying our fall weather so much. I can wait.

Your photos are wonderful and I too love to watch a fish tank. Pretty blue to share.

    1. Well if that's the case Jeanne...I'm all medicated up, fit and raring to go!!! ;D
Oh don't let the pond put you off...just let me know when you set off and I'll pop the kettle on.
I certainly don't want to rush into winter...in fact I'm hanging on by my finger nails to autumn. The wind is really cold today but the sun's still shining.
I just hope it's not going to bring snow...well not yet anyway :(
I couldn't resist that blue either.
Thanks for calling and I'll pop over the pond as soon as I can ;D

    1. Hi Nan,
It was a fantastic weekend. We'll probably be doing it regularly if there's room in the Inn ;D
I used to have a fish bowl when I was little and my fish lasted for years. Well, I think they did unless my parents kept replacing them :$
      Now there's a thought!

I use different cameras but hope to have a super duper one if Santa thinks I've been good enough. I'm trying my best anyway :D

Have a great week and I'll see you soon xoxo

    1. It was a really good weekend for lots of reasons May,
It's brilliant to just nip down to visit after being away for so many years.
No hassle, passports or airports involved.
We were also lucky with traffic and the weather ;D

I loved the fish tank and would possibly like one too, although I hear it's lots of work and I really don't need anything else adding to my list!
      I'll just enjoy it when I visit...well that's if I'm invited back :D

Have a wonderful week whatever you have on your plan. I hope the storm didn't cause you any trouble.

  18. There are big flocks of Canadian geese that come to lakes and fields here, and fly overhead in fall, they haven't appeared yet. The golden sunset is spectacular, and the aquarium looks amazing, so many interesting marine animals. I've always loved marine aquariums but they seem intimidating for keeping at home.

    1. Hi Hannah,
The geese flying over is a spectacular sight that always stops me in my tracks.
The aquarium belongs to my nephew and although it sounds like it can have it's trials and tribulations I think it is worth it!
I've filmed a little video which shows all of the fish and coral which looks great. I've just got to find a suitable piece of music to accompany it. Then I'll post it for everyone to see. ;D
I hope your weekend is going well and I apologise for the delay in my reply :D

  19. Such gorgeous photos, you sure have moved to a beautiful place. You can send those geese to my place, I'd love to have them all visit. Might have to buy a bit more bread though. That fish tank is amazing, just a tad more interesting than the mad gold fish we have. Glad you enjoyed your weekend with family. Still going mad here, will write soon.

  20. 10,000 birds migrating, 9 fish a swimming, 8 humans laughing and... four turtle dove, 3 french hens.... I'm wrapping up Christmas presses here so have got christmas songs in my head just in case you think I have gone bananas!! Somehow your wonderful post and photos made me think of the 10 days of christmas carol.
But the good news is that not only do you no longer need a passport to visit the relies, you also don't need to worry about missing the last date for posting for weeks!!
Glad you got back safely as that was one mighty horrible storm to hit the UK just after the weekend.

You are organised if you're wrapping pressies already....you'll have me in a panic.

As to the last date for posting...nothing changes. I've missed relations birthdays already as I used to before when living in Melbourne, but now I can't get away with the fact that it's such a long way to go and that's why it's late. I'll have to come up with something else, or I really must get organised and look at the beginning of each month to see who's needing post!
Sorry it's taken me so long to reply to your lovely singing...but I've only just found that I'd missed quite a few comments on this post.

I see your weather's warmed up nicely so enjoy and don't worry about me here in 0 degrees! :(
