In Denial... PPF and Sunday Sketches

I've been out and about quite a bit this week, so you are probably going to know what comes next...
... unfortunately, I haven't a new piece of artwork to show you today.
Sorry.
Because I'm in serious denial that autumn is waiting in the wings, I thought I'd show you my watercolour autumn leaf.
I've heard the robin twittering away (which is a very autumnal sound) and even witnessed the odd leaf drifting down from the trees, so this painting come to mind.
Surely it can't be autumn coming to call already?
I still don't feel we've had enough warmth to last us thorough until spring arrives.
Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.
Albert Camus
When I took this photograph for PPF today, I was shocked to see I painted it in 2014!
I really enjoyed painting the leaf and liked the results, so I decided to frame it in a simple white frame.
I love these frames.
This is where it usually sits... on top of a chest of drawers.
The white teddy bear is called 'Bobby' and he's my daughter's.
He lives with us... in her words..."to keep him safe" and 'Arthur' is a one off Bohemian Teddy by Amy Young.
The riding hat is mine, but it hasn't had an airing for quite some time.
If you'd like to see more artwork then click here to visit the Paint Party Friday link.
Thanks Eva and Kristin for hosting once again.

I've been steeped in history over the last week, visiting two castles and last night we went to
His Majesty's Theatre in the centre of Aberdeen.
His Majesty's Theatre is a distinguished venue boasting one of the most beautiful and spectacular auditoriums in the UK.
The theatre was designed by eminent theatre arcitect Frank Matcham and opened in 1906.
The theatre is a prominent part of the Aberdeen skyline, with the Sir William Wallace monument opposite the main entrance.
(William Wallace was a Scottish landowner who became one of the main leaders during the Wars of Scottish Independence).

We've seen many performances in this beautiful theatre over the years.
From Pantomimes to Ballet's.
Last night we watched the musical 'Made in Dagenham'.
The musical was inspired by the film of the same name.
It's a stunning building.
Apologies for the poor quality of the photographs, but obviously it's difficult to take a good photo in the atmospheric dim lighting.
I love going to the theatre don't you?
What was the last show you went to see?
I'd love to know.

I'm also linking up with Alexandra's Sunday Sketches. It is week 5 already!
So that's it for this week folks... I really will try to produce more artwork for next week.
In the meantime, have fun. be creative and have a wonderful weekend.

    1. My pleasure Christine, I'm happy that you liked them.
It's not everyday that you climb a castle!

  3. The leaf is beautiful. It's very hot here, but the signs of Autumn are still unmistakable. Happy PPF, hugs, Valerie

  4. That leaf is simply amazing. The photos are gorgeous. You are lucky to have all the history around you. Yes, I too love going to the opera, ballet, and stage shows. Haven't been able to go in a long time.

    1. I've always been interested in history Nicole, but I must admit to have so much around us is such a privilege.
It's a shame that you haven't been able to go to see a show recently. We tend to only go as a treat, so it feels even more special.
      Happy PPF to you

    1. Thanks Rita, it's a shame that you haven't been able to go to the theatre. I do hope you get the opportunity to do so once again some time. It is special.

  6. Hey Denise :D Well I have been and updated my profile yet again, and hope this time I am not a 'No reply blogger' ^_^
That leaf looks SO real! Nicely done indeedy ^_^ We have experienced a late Summer over the past couple of weeks, and with more days to come I'm sure, so I am satisfied and shan't bemoan the onset of Autumn as it is my favourite season.
I love the theatre but haven't been for about 20 years. That time was to see a play called Murder By Death and I went with my mum and now I won't go on my own. Your photos of 'His Majestys', are lovely, despite the 'atmospheric' lighting. It is a fabulous building for sure ^_^
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, whatever you are upto {{{Hugs}}} xox

    1. I hate to tell you (although you are not going to see this unless I write to your email address) that unfortunately it hasn't worked.
I remembered that our lovely friend Jenn over at http://www.justaddwatersilly.com/ wrote a blog post specifically aabout this issue so I've gone in to find it and here's the link if you are interested...

      Good Luck!
Thanks for your lovely comment anyway... I really appreciate it and love to see you here.
I do love Autumn too, but I just need to store up a little more heat before we head that way.
I looked up the play that you went to see because I hadn't heard of it. Imagine castles there too.
I'm spinning the plates once again Mo... trying to pack far too much into the weekend. I definitely need to readdress my time management skills and soon.
Hugs to you too and I hope Jenn's info can help... that is if you want to change your settings :D

    1. I love to visit these magnificent old theatres Debra.
Here's the full Robbie Burns poem for anyone who may be interested...

SCOTS WHA HAE BY ROBERT BURNS

Scots, wha hae wi' Wallace bled,
      Scots, wham Bruce has aften led;
      Welcome to your gory bed,
      Or to victory!

      Now's the day, and now's the hour;
      See the front o' battle lour;
      See approach proud Edward's power—
      Chains and slavery!

Wha will be a traitor knave?
Wha can fill a coward's grave!
Wha sae base as be a slave?
      Let him turn and flee!

Wha for Scotland's king and law
      Freedom's sword will strongly draw,
      Freeman stand, or freeman fa',
      Let him follow me!

      By oppression's woes and pains!
By your sons in servile chains!
We will drain our dearest veins,
      But they shall be free!

      Lay the proud usurpers low!
      Tyrants fall in every foe!
      Liberty's in every blow!—
      Let us do or die!

  8. Your watercolor leaf is gorgeous Denise and definitely belongs on show in a frame!! Leaves are slowly beginning to fall on some of the trees here too and the sun is setting earlier - about a minute a day:( I LOVE castles so thank you for sharing these magnificent structures-stunning! Hope you're having a great weekend and happy PPF too.

    1. Aww thanks Linda for all of your lovely comments. I have to admit I like the leaf which is a major achievement for me. I don't normally like what I paint.
We've had a great week weather wise, but the autumnal signs are all there. I've even noticed the light fading earlier in the evening.
I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed my castle visits. There are so many around here... there's even a fantastic castle trail that you can follow from one castle to the next. Aren't we lucky to have all of this history on our doorsteps!
Apologies for such a late reply... it's been that kind of week!
      Happy PPF to you too

  9. that is a gorgeous theatre! I've only been once, and technically it wasn't really a theatre, was a converted building for Phantom of the Opera. Good show live tho :)

These stunning photos are exactly why my daughter is so in love with the U.K. she often speaks of the majesty of the architecture!! Not to take away from the name which is so appropriate!! Thanks for ALWAYS being interesting!
