Edinburgh skyline at Sunset....

I never imagined for a minute that I'd pick up a paint brush during this last week, never mind actually begin to paint...especially after only just settling back home after our holiday!
But when I saw this photograph that my daughter took using her phone through the office window of the Edinburgh skyline, I thought it would be great to reacquaint myself with my silk paints.
Well the ironing mountain had reduced (slightly) and the cases have all been unpacked and put away...
So why not paint?

Fantastic isn't it?
(Don't forget it's through glass and on her phone ~ she wanted me to mention that....)
I had thought to include it in Jenn's Artist Play Room  with this week's theme being sunsets...
but one...I was too late (what's new?) and two...it is only a work in progress!
(Pop over using the link above if you want to see some great artists work)

Let me tell you I feel very vunerable at this stage of the post because I hate to show unfinished work...
It's a little like showing someone your 'intimates' (underwear) drawer'!
But here goes....
It was very strange opening the box containing the paint pots because some of them haven't seen the light of day for about 12/13 years!
They all looked so used and loved and I remember we had such great times together.
It was like meeting really old friends that you haven't been in contact with for years and firstly feeling rather awkward.
As I picked up the crinkled tubes they fitted in my hand but felt strange. I knew they'd moulded to my grip in the past and we'd had many hours of sheer bliss together, where everything else had been forgotten for a while....but they didn't feel comfortable anymore. I suppose it will take time to re-establish a rapport.
It was like shaking someone's hand for the first time...you never know how it's going to be...whether a strong grip with a definite shake or a limp, whoosy, shy touch or a gentle squeeze.
I know we need to spend some quality time together and hopefully that will happen...then hopefully we may return to our special relationship.
But there again maybe it's time to move on...it was good whilst it lasted but I should try a different media?
Time will tell....

So here's what I did...please remember it's still unfinished and needs quite a lot more adding to it but at least it's a start!

The wispy lines in the bottom right hand corner and the window lights are actually gold, but it's difficult to see that from the photo.
So there you are...I've even shown you my 'intimates'...can you believe it!??!?
I won't say now you show me yours for obvious reasons (https://secure.quebles.com/content/hotmail/emoticons/1511769.gif) LOL

That's it for today peeps...the sun's shining and it looks glorious outside, so I'm away to appreciate the day.
I hope you are enjoying your weekend too.
Have fun until we meet again...https://secure.quebles.com/content/hotmail/emoticons/1508618.gif

    1. Wow Laurie I get it....I think you actually like it...or dare I say it...even love it! LOL
What a treat to read your lovely compliments. They mean so much to me especially coming from you. I really respect your opinion and after all it was you that inspired me to return to painting ;D

I did have trouble with the 'clean' lines because they weren't really clean or as I would like them. I had a terrible problem with the old brushes and now I realise I'll have to replace them all. Kerrrr....ching!
I managed in the end using my old Chinese brush that would always get me out of trouble in the past. I LOVE that brush!!!

I hope your weekend is going well. I'll be popping over soon.

  2. oh my, this is beautiful, and you have trouble thinking of yourself as an artist??!? This is spectacular, even for a finished painting. I can't imagine how much better it'll be when you finish, my friend. When you finish, no matter what the theme, make SURE you post it to APR, even if you're posting two things, or it doesn't match the theme. It should be shown.
    Much love,
    Jenn

    1. Yep that's right Jenn, but I'm trying to get over it!

Aww thanks so much for saying such lovely things my friend. You've all been so supportive and kind.
So there's not a lot of pressure on me for finishing it then? :$ (gulp)

With silk painting you can achieve amazing vivid colours and I just thought that the sunset was a little soft and muted.
It's difficult to go back once it's dry, but if I'm feeling brave enough then I'll have another dabble. I'll let you know the outcome.
      Good or bad! :$

I hope you're having a fantastic weekend with lots of fun and I'm really looking forward to visiting the APR gang over the next few days :D

Yeah we've had some good times together in the past!
I just hope that I can become familiar with them once again.

I'd certainly forgotten how tricky silk painting can be. :$
I'm glad that you liked it.

Enjoy your Sunday and I'll pop over to visit soon.

    1. Hmm...do I have to promise Trace?
I'll certainly try to revisit it but silk painting can be a real challenge to once it's dry. I'll try my best...how's about that?!?!
      Will that do? ;D

I hope your weekend has gone well and you'll be ready for another fun packed creative week :D
      Catch you later

  5. Hi Ros,
The paints used to be like an extension of my hand, but when I opened the box the other day some of them shied away from the light it's been that long since they've been out!
I think I need to renew not only the paints but also some of the brushes. Still needs must and all that.... ;D

The weekend is nearly over, so I hope you've enjoyed it to the max with the fantastic weather. I've only just come indoors from early this morning. Temperature just perfect (ahhh....)

I'll catch up with you soon xoxo

    1. Aww Julia thank you so much. It's so lovely to hear such lovely positive compliments...especially when you show unfinished work.
Now how could I come back to the UK and not let you know? I'd certainly be in touch beforehand because I'd expect you to greet me at the airport! ;D

Missed the WOYWW gang but I hope to be organised and back into the swing of things soon. In the meantime I hope you have a great week whatever you have planned. :D

    1. Thank you so much Vicki,
All I need to do is find more time to finish it off (Ha!)
I'm pinching a little time here and stealing a little time there to try and get as much out of my day as I can but it's difficult.
Then today I heard the first Christmas song on the radio...ARGH! I can't believe it....I've only just got back from my summer holiday!

I've seen your two promotional posts and will return to get all the details soon. It all sounds very exciting :D

    1. There are certain designs, scenes and objects that lend themselves more to silk painting. As soon as I saw the skyline I knew it would be ideal for the silks.
Truth is I wouldn't know how else to do it at the moment, but I plan to look at tutorials and maybe do a workshop in the New Year.

You're so kind to say you've missed me Terrie, but I've also missed you and need to catch up soon.
I can't believe so many have entered into the AEDM which is making the task of catching up with everyone and what they've been creating so much harder.
I'm dedicated thought so I'll get there. ;D

I hope you have a great week whatever you have planned. Enjoy!

I'm hoping to create something later today but at the moment I'm completely blank. Hopefully something will come to me.
