My Sunday Photo... Snow Globes and Sherry

It's been a busy day which I suppose is only to be expected with the onset of the Christmas preparations.
I've dressed the tree and put up some of the decorations around the house, so I feel a little calmer that I can now actually tick off a few items on my to-do list.
We have quiet a few decorations... okay... we have boxes and boxes of decorations, so it's not a job that can be done in a day!
I'll carry on again tomorrow.
Having the daylight disappear at 3.30pm doesn't help... but there's not much I can do about that.

Every year I buy a new decoration, either for the tree or around the house.
The year we left Australia, I bought a Santa for the tree.
He is in his swimmers lounging on a float, drinking a cocktail... Christmas arrives in the heat of summer Down Under, so I felt that this Santa was very appropriate to remind us of the hot Christmases we had whilst living there.

This year I couldn't resist this snow globe.
It's quite large and incredibly heavy.
I think the bird is a red cardinal, but I like to think of him as a robin... and we often have deer come up to our garden, so I felt it very appropriate.
Now all we need is a little snow.
Just so long that if it does arrive... it disappears on Boxing Day!

This is my photo of how the day ended.
A glass of sherry and a mince pie to celebrate a busy day of festive decorating.
Do you have a favourite decoration or tradition?

Thanks for your visit and I hope to see you soon.
I'm linking up with Photalife.com

Have a great day whatever you have planned.
Enjoy!

    1. I have to admit I'm smitten with this globe. I've never had one before. I don't know what it is, but it's very satisfying to give it a swish and watch the snow fall.

    1. It is so heavy Louise. Solid!
It's a family tradition to have a sherry whilst trimming the Christmas tree... and I must say I haven't had one since that afternoon... but don't ask me how many mince pies I've eaten. I may have to tell a little white lie!

    1. It is a fabulous globe and I think it'll be a favourite for quite some time. It definitely looks the part.
It sounds like you are having some incredible weather just now. I remember when we first arrived in Melbourne... it was just before Black Saturday's bush fire. It was scary to watch and so tragic!
So stay safe and have a lovely Christmas and I wish you all the best for 2017!

    1. I'm really pleased with the globe and I'm so happy that I decided to buy it. I think it will be one of my favourite decorations for quite some time! I have eight large storage boxes of decorations, so I really must not be tempted to buy any more!
(I'm writing that just in case my hubby reads this ;D)

We've been back in the UK for four Christmases... so the hot Christmases are a distant memory now.

    1. I think so too Kim. I'm so happy that I bought it and I also agree that a wee glass of something with the fire blazing and eating something festive is the best way to end the day, although most nights just a good cuppa is all that's needed!

The mince pies just hit the spot after spending hours decorating the tree.

  12. Your snow glob is fabulous -- snow globes are quite mystical and I can always picture myself inside with the scene and falling snow!
We have started a new Christmas tradition. Every year we buy new lighting for the outside of our house. This year we bought a white tree (all branches) full of white lights. It looks so pretty!
The kids are grown and gone - no one will be here this Christmas. My son and his wife travel to Europe every Christmas and my daughter and her family will be with her Dad this year.
I know your home is beautiful all decked out in its Christmas best!

    1. I've never really thought about snow globes before now. I think they might be making a comeback... that is if they have every been out of style. I couldn't resist it when I saw it. It's so heavy and beautiful.
I know the kind of outside tree that you mention... I love to have the outside of the house dressed, especially here where we need to try to lighten up the very short dark days.
My kids have grown, but we all plan to be together with our extended family too, so it'll probably be bedlam, but in a nice way!
If I don't speak to you before the big day I wish you a wonderful peaceful day and very best wish for 2017!

  15. A wonderful snow globe, I like it.
I'm still living in renovation mess, after a flu... but I begun a little decoration: up in my working room in white and grey and down in our library room will make all in turquoise and gold - I bought yesterday a turquoise light. There are always the colors, which inspire me...
Have a happy and quiet time
