The Artist Playroom....Masquerade...

As soon as I heard that this week's challenge from Jenn in the the Artist Playroom was to be a Masquerade theme, I decided to put all the chores on hold...yes I know not a difficult decision.
Every time I even hear the word 'Masquerade' immediately I have the Phantom of the Opera playing in my head!
I think you'll agree that this clip is fantastic....pure Masquerade magic!

Fantastic costumes....

I have such wonderful memories of a fancy dress party that my sister and BiL threw for us before we left the UK and headed towards Australia.  All the guests really pulled out the stops and went to town on their costumes. One of the party members (who'll remain nameless to protect his identity) dressed as the Phantom. To say he enjoyed the costume would be an understatement. He swished his cape constantly and assumed the role by disappearing and reappearing throughout the night. He has seen the theatre production in various venues numerous times and I often imagine him sitting in the audience fully robed...mask, cape and all...just waiting to be called because the lead has developed a mysterious 24 hour virus and the understudy suddenly takes a tumble.
No worries ***** is here to fill the role perfectly! https://secure.quebles.com/content/hotmail/emoticons/1508618.gif

So with spending time I didn't really have drawing....I had to resort to squirting furniture polish ramdomly around the room masquerading it as a clean house...(hehe)
Here's what I produced...

A brand new page in my second journal....whoohoo!
It hasn't been a particularly bright day today, so unfortunately I don't think it's the best photo.
I'm also not sure that you will be able to see the silver highlights...but what can you do when the lights not right?
(Maybe replace the image at a later stage when it is? https://secure.quebles.com/content/hotmail/emoticons/1511766.gif)

Jenn is kindly having a 'giveaway' too, so not only will you see all the other artists interpretations on the 'Masquerade' theme if you visit her blog...
there's also a chance you might win a special mystery bag of wonderfulness too.

Good luck and have a fantastic Friday everyone...

  1. What an amazing mask. By now you probably know I am drawn to black and white work - and I think I do see a bit of the silver in there.

    1. Hi Darla,
Thanks for popping over and leaving your compliment on the mask.

I nearly didn't enter but then had a brief window of opportunity and siezed it!
I suppose you could say it was kind of like a 20 minute challenge with a few extra minutes thrown in.

I'm glad you could see a little of the silver ~ it's still not great light this morning so no chance to change it just yet. ;D

Have a great weekend with lots of creativity! :D

Jenn knew how to reel me in...with this challenge. I just couldn't say no even though I really don't have the time this week.
Off again at the weekend...so lots of do.

I still haven't seen what you've been up to but I will ;D
      Looking forward to it!

Have a wonderful weekend whatever you get up to. Enjoy! :D

  3. That mask is gorgeous, you are so clever. You can see the silver when you do a close up of your photo. You have put so much work into it, my eyes would be permanently crossed if I did that much tangling!! I have the dvd of that same Phantom movie, just love it. The costumes are beautiful.
Hope you have a wonderful time on your holiday across "the pond" in NZ.

    1. I'm so glad you can see the silver because it does add something to it...but once again a dull day here so they'll be no retakes with better light!
I gave my eyes little rests during the process...putting the kettle on...letting the dog in or out...answering the phone...having to find something which the boys couldn't!

Phantom is a brilliant movie and theatre production isn't it? I've watched it so many times but never tire of it. There's always something new to see and the music ~ wow ;D

Von...do you realise you just spoilt the surprise of where I'm going on my jolly? But because it's you and you're so special I'll let you off...but it might cost you a painting at some stage...LOL
Have a wonderful weekend and I'll be in touch soon xoxo

  4. Amazingly detailed mask! I love all the swirls and different shades. And yes, I can see the silver on the mask. Simply gorgeous. Interestingly, I also thought of the Phantom of the Opera when the theme was announced.

Great writing - in my imagination I can see your friend, cape swishing, disappearing, reappearing, reclining in the audience fully costumed, just waiting for the call. Excellent! And your mask? Fantastic, it's so beautiful, such detailed work :D

    1. Surprisingly enough the mask didn't take that long Rita,
Well I didn't have long so there was no option.

The party was held in our honour before we left for Australia.
My family threw it for us and as you say it was one to remember...some of the costumes were brilliant. Everyone entered into the full spirit of fancy dress. ;D

Have a great weekend whatever you get up to...remember have fun :D

  9. at last, here I am. I absolutely LOVE this and I still say if you wanted to you COULD add colour but... I just love what you have done, Neesie. It inspires me to play more with the Zentangle doodling what have you. I DO it some, but it usually makes me sleepy and drifty, NOT a BAD thing...
your party sounds wonderfuLL and like a treasured memory to take out Now and Again to remember how very much you are loved.

    1. Hi Currie,
I know just how you feel because I'm so behind myself! ;D
I love the black and white for 'tangles but feel I need to expand and try other media plus lots of colour.

The way you describe how t'angles make you feel is just why you should play...they really relax and take your mind away to heaven knows where? I just know they do you good...well other than you're eyes of course!

Thanks for popping by...I appreciate your time and how much effort it takes to visit.

I'm just about to shut the cases ready for our next holiday...so have a great weekend and I'll see you whenever! :D

    1. Hi Gloria...I must apologise for taking so long to reply ~ like the housework I've been very neglectful in my duties! ;D
I have a valid excuse though as I've taken a trip to New Zealand...and only just settled in.
I'm so glad you liked the mask and left a lovely comment. Its always good to get feedback especially the positive kind.

I hope you had a great weekend? Are you ready for another fun packed week to commence? Bring it on I say! :D

    1. Hi Trace,
Hmm...I'll have to give that some thought...phantom but not phantom????
Maybe I'm suffering from more jet lag than I thought? I've only hopped over to NZ! :$

Anyway I'm so happy to hear your praise for my mask. I truly appreciate your kind words ;D
Before coming away, I was soooo busy that I wasn't going to enter into the playroom, but then I couldn't resist!
Not sure about this next one though...I might have to skip that one with being on a jolly.

Have a fantastic productive week with all your new ventures. I'll be keen to see how they all progress.

And to think I nearly didn't enter the playroom.

I'm needing a pass for this week though...and possibly next with being away on my jolly holly.
But if something does comes to mind on the challenge and hubby happens to be on the golf course...then who knows?
I've got my journal with me (see just like a real artist!!!) ;D

Hope you and your Mum are both over all the germs (I'm wearing that masquerade mask just in case you're not!) LOL
