Paint Party Friday... Mufftypups portrait

Morning everyone... isn't it a fantastic day, plus it's nearly the weekend (again) Woohoo...
I thought you might like a peep into my studio once again, which is still in a transition phase.
Not sure how long it will take me to get it as I would like... let's say it's yet another work in progress. Story of my life!

Anyway here it is...
Getting messy isn't it? I think that's a good sign.

So as well as having visitors staying over the Easter holiday, I've been spending some time in the garden due to it's awakening, but I've also started a painting that I've wanted to do for quite some time.
It's a portrait of my McMufftypup (my dog for any new comes to this blog)
Let me just say at this stage she's not the easiest of pooches to paint nor the best of models.
As her groomer keeps telling me, Muffy doesn't like to stand when she can sit,
and sit when she can lie.
That's my girl... sigh
I lost count of how many times she would curl up for a little snoozelet and refuse to play.
Thankfully, I had a photo printed to help me in times of need.
It's not the best because the colours aren't true but it helped... I think!
I've spent a few sessions over the last few days to try to complete it before Friday's Paint Party but once again I think it needs more time for tweeking.
I think I could just keep adding to her fur for years.
Let me tell you that a mini shih tzu has a LOT of hair!
(Just in case you don't know a shih tzu does actually have hair and not fur, hence why we chose to have a dog of that breed. My son and hubby have allegies so she's perfect in that respect. The downfall is she takes forever to dry... but thankfully she loves the hairdryer ^..^ )
Here's the pet portrait so far...
Okay it still doesn't look anything like her and the photo really is bad (no excuses honest it doesn't look like this on my desk) but I'm beginning to like it,
I'll keep going but at the moment the great outdoors is calling.

  2. It doesn't have to look like the portrait, it just has to look like her. I believe it does. Just a bit more shading and you have it. Great studio, love your paintings on the wall too. Blessings, Janet PPF

    1. Well that's very kind of you to say Janet,
I was told that if you want your art to look exactly like the subject then just take a photo... so I'm holding on to that!
I do plan to keep adding to it until I think I'm there but who knows I may ruin it. We'll have to see... that's the fun of it eh?
I'm spreading artwork along that wall and getting away with it so far... (it's just be painted I expected hubby might have got twitchy)
Blessings to you too. Happy PPF

    1. Aww thanks Linda,
I wasn't too happy with it as I felt it wasn't really capturing her but I've spent a little more time on it today and I think I might be getting there.
The trouble is that the photo doesn't show it as it really is. Ah well such is life.
Glad you could pop by and leave a message.
I hope your weekend is going well. Happy PPF to you

  8. Adorable so far...I look forward to seeing her finished!! I have a real thing for little white dogs as I've had four from birth to death...Loved them to bits and miss them...but not the work of them!! Had two at a time... non allergenic ones too!! They can be the sweetest ever!! There is absolutely nothing like a puppy greeting!!

    1. I've actually spent a little more time on it Giggles, but I'm still not convinced that (a) it is finished and (b) that it looks like her!
I'll post it next Friday at the party along with hopefully some new project (if I get my act together) so that you can see and give a verdict.
Well our little white pooch still gives that puppy greeting and she's past 11 now. Sometimes it can only be whilst I've been putting some washing out or mooching around the garden. It really is special... I treasure these moments because I know all too well how soon we may have to say goodbye. But hopefully her puppy behaviour carries on for a few more years yet ^..^
Have a great week and thanks for stopping by

I'm still revisiting it but hopefully I'll get there soon

  10. Such a cutie. I think you've definitely caught her in your painting. And I love the studio view. Its cleaner than mine is, which has been in the fixing up phase for a couple of months now. I get started, and then decide I would rather make art than clean, so it waits until my next motivated moment. Thank for stopping by my blog, and yes, they used the knives and tossed food at you to catch with your mouths...quite the lunch experience. have a great weekend.

    1. Aww bless you for your kind words and encouragement Erika,
I don't blame you for creating instead of cleaning either... my studio will evolve as and when but the view is just perfect. I can look out at the bird feeders and garden plus farmland, woods and mountains in the distance. I know I'm very lucky.
Tossing the food is obviously the thing to do world wide (hehe)
I missed your weekend due to my laptop playing up once more but I hope your week goes well. Thanks again for stopping by and leaving a comment.

  11. You did a wonderful job - I judge not by how exact the painting is - but by how much heart is put into it and how much life I see in your work. Really well done!

    1. Oh thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words. That's what I love about this linky... like minded people sharing and inspiring each other. I suppose if I wanted it as an exact likeness then I'd just take yet another photo to join the 1,000's of other photo's that I've taken of her.
Thanks once again and I'll post the finished painting next Friday hopefully with another new project.
Have a great creative week (apologies for taking so long to reply... my computer is playing silly whatsit's once again)

  12. Well I'm no expert by any means but I know what I like and like what I know, and I like your painting of Muftypup. More hair yes, and shading, but that's all I know, lol. I did know Shih Tzu's had hair, but what I didn't know is that they came in different sizes!? How interesting! I must check this out for curiosity sake.
Wee Man and I got back from our 'mega' adventure on Thursday and I need another holiday to recover, lol. Luckily he has gone out on his usual Saturday jaunt with hubs, so I have until 7pm to enjoy the solitude.
Hope you're having a fab start to your weekend xox

    1. Aww thanks Mo,
I've revisited it twice since this post, so there's now more hair and shading, but I'm still not convinced it looks anything like her.
Muffin is the mini size shih tzu or sometimes described as the teacup (which seems appropriate for me). She weighs 4.6 kilos to give you some idea. A couple of bags of sugar!
It sounds like you've had quite a time gallovanting as I see you in my sidebar. I'll pop across as soon as I can. I'm having trouble with my laptop once again but I'm determined I'm going to win this war!
I hope you had a great relaxing 'Me' time on Saturday... I know you'll treasure having time to yourself.
Thanks once again for visiting and leaving a lovely comment.
I hope your week has started well and will get better as it progresses.

  13. Lovely post. Its always fun to see other artists studios. Spring is my favorite season just love getting outside and seeing everything come alive again. One draw back is I"m not in my studio as much as I should been either. Thanks for sharing. ;)

    1. I know exactly what you mean Karen, I'm torn between the garden and studio. I tend to let the weather dictate which passion wins. I'm a fair weather gardener so if it's good weather I go out.
Today I've planted up two large mangers but they won't be going outside until probably late May. I think tomorrow will be studio time (there's rain forecast) woohoo!
      Have a great week

I'm having laptop trouble (using my son's at the moment) so it might take me a little time. In the meantime have fun this week and lots of creativity too

  15. Gosh you have really got her eyes and mouth captured really well, I'm not an artist but that much be the trickiest bit? Love the eyelashes, she always was a cute one. I here all supermodels are not that easy to work with! I never realised Muftypup had such exotic ears love the fading into dark tips!
    Love to you both,

    1. I like the eye's the best but that's about all Wren,
I have had another dabble since this last photo was taken and in my defence it's really not a good photo.
If I told you it was much better in real life would you believe me ;D (but it's true)
Yep, now you mention it I like her ears too. If her ears and tail hair gets long it has black tips.
Love and miss you guys too xoxo

What a beautiful dog you have, and the painting is gorgeous! I love how you have beautifully painted the eyes and reflections in the eyeball. I love to see the details! And the way you have paint the lovely hair also!
