Initially I couldn't believe the audacity of this particular dandelion to actually flower... smack bang right in the middle of my freshly cut lawn!
It stood centre stage, alone and proud.
Considering that the lawns were only cut two days ago, it had managed to miss the lawn mower blades and had grown to such an extent, as to produce this flower.
Quite an achievement!
Never underestimate the power of a weed
But then who decides what is a weed and what is a flower?
I've wanted to capture the image of a dandelion for quite some time.
Today was the day.
It seemed fitting to give it even more limelight by choosing it for My Sunday Photo this week.
I had fun playing around with the image.
This is the negative edit.
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
Fantastic detail on the dandelion head - and the negative image is fascinating!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tim, I have wanted to get a photo of a dandelion flower for quite some time. I can rest easy now.
DeletePerfect in it's detail, much harder to recognize in black and white
ReplyDeleteIsn't it just... it's just a pity that they decide to grow in the middle of a lawn! I liked the negative effect.
DeleteLove the negative edit. Dandelion clocks are so pretty :-)
ReplyDeleteIt appears that the dandelion is a favourite even though it's a week Louise. I like the negative effect too.
DeleteWonderful photography and love the negative image.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam, I've been wanting to capture a dandelion for quite some time. Next I want to actually snap it as the wind disperses the seeds. That one might be tricky!
DeleteHow beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday to you xx
Thank you sirkkis,
DeleteI wish you a happy week ahead
Dandelion clocks remind me of my childhood, we used to have so much fun with them. Stunning photos Neesie x
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy, I think most children have fun at one stage or another with dandelion clocks... it's like a timeless thing. All generations can relate to it.
DeleteBeautiful detail in the head.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up
It's something I've been meaning to capture for quite some time Darren. Thanks for hosting once more
DeleteQuick get the seeds or it won't be alone for long!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo #mysundayphoto
Precisely... and that's why I never made a wish and blew the flower whilst standing in the middle of the lawn!
DeleteIt looks so good in B&W. We absolutely love dandelions in our house when they turn into wishes :)
ReplyDeleteI like the B&W image too... maybe even more than the original.
DeleteI hope all your wishes come true for you and yours.
I've loved dandelions since I was a mere child. In fact, my fave pic of myself is of me a toddler trying to save all the dandelions before my dad mows them over. :) thank you for stirring a beautiful memory with your beautiful pictures! Hugs
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely memory and I'm happy to help being it to the fore once more.
DeleteI think most children have fun with dandelions Nan. I remember my Grandmother not being too happy with all of her grandchildren blowing the seeds all over her lovely garden... but then she'd smile and realise a child has to do what a child has to do!
They are just beautiful! You have captured so much detail!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim, I was pleased with the image because I've wanted to photograph a dandelion for so long. Tick!
DeleteAbsolutely love the 2 photos and the contrat between the negative. I adore dandelions! #MySundayPhoto
ReplyDeleteThanks Martyn, it appears that the dandelion is a favourite of many people, even though it is technically a weed!
DeleteWhat a difference between both photos - still they are both superb in their own right! X #mysundayphoto
ReplyDeleteYeah I was pleased with both images. It's been on my to-do list for quite some time. I can now move on :D
DeleteHow beautiful - as a kid I would pick these beauties and see if I could blow of all the seeds with one breath. I still want to move to Scotland!
ReplyDeletesandy xx
Oh I'd never manage blowing all the seeds in one go. I've not that much puff! I didn't blow this particular one because it would have spread the seeds all over my lawn. I feel I've missed out on a wish now!
DeleteOoooo, the negative edit looks quite SINISTER!
ReplyDeleteDo you think so Deb, I kinda like that one.
DeleteIt's intriguing how we can all see things so differently.
Dandelions have always had a special place in my heart. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are for many people Rita, which is amazing with them being a weed. I'm happy that I've finally managed to capture the image. It's been on my list for quite some time.
DeleteA weed it is, by definition, but in reality it is one of natures more prolific flowers ... I love dandelions, but like everyone else have to cut them out so they don't spread their little seeds to everyone else's pristine yards. They do manage to take hold anyway as you have demonstrated here. Lovely photography and a good understanding of the tenacious Dandelion :)
ReplyDeleteAndrea @ From The Sol
Thanks Andrea, they certainly are prolific because even though I was so careful not to disperse the seeds anywhere near the lawn... another flower has appeared!
Deletethe black and white image is really neat looking :)
ReplyDeleteI have had people try to argue with me when I say grass can be a weed :p
I certainly wouldn't argue with you Jennifer,
DeleteI liked the result of the black and white image.
Have a great weekend
My #mysundayphoto is a dandelion clocks too so snap!
ReplyDeleteLove love them and love the details you have captured here =)
Hehe... I know pixiedusk because I was your fourth comment on your Sunday blog post. Great minds obviously think alike eh?
DeleteYou've got to admire those that stand out from the crowd - one perfect weed in the middle of the freshly cut lawn - way to go little weed :)
ReplyDeleteHave a gorgeous week, I'm off to the Gold Coast today - wish you were here!
Wren x
Never mind way to go little weed, because another flower has appeared! It obviously left a little something behind, even though I was very careful not to let any seeds drop anywhere near the lawn!
