Terwit-terwoo Tuesday.....

We had a visitor in the neighbourhood the other evening. He came swooping in and perched on an overhead cable. It was just a little too dark to be sure.... but it was definitely an owl, but I can't confirm which yet. We think it could be a Tawny Frog-Mouthed Owl. They are quite at home in Melbourne where there are plenty of large trees in metropolitan areas, and is probably the most common night-bird in the area. It may be in need a new home due to all the tree pruning last week.... I do hope he decides to stay a while.

Tawny Frog-Mouthed Owl (Podargus strigoides)

This photo was taken in a sanctuary last year, but I'm hopeful that I might get lucky and capture our new visitor soon. The Tawny Frog-Mouthed owl feeds mainly on insects and occasionally rodents....so he's handy to have around and I'm hoping he decides its not a bad neighbourhood. I'll keep you posted....

I've had soooooooooo much trouble trying to load photo's and just completing this post today that I've ran out of time ~ so I'm giving up ; (
